Not a "fat" chick--yet

  • Hi everyone. This is my first time here... in fact, this is my first time using any type of weight-loss forum.

Technically I'm within the healthy weight range for my height. I am not, however, where I would like to be. At 22 years old, I've already been overweight, I've been a healthy weight, and I've even been slightly under weight. My fluctuations are related directly to my emotions. Stress causes me to gain weight (and fast!), whereas extreme hardship causes the pounds to melt off daily. After a period of emotional despair during which I dipped under my healthy weight range, I am now in a fairly stable place in my life and only a little heavier than I should be.

I would love to lose about 25 pounds, but what I really want is to break the cycle of overeating/undereating and develop a healthy, stable relationship with food and exercise. I may not be a fat girl right now, but I'm certainly not ideally per portioned and I'm concerned that if I don't change my habits now, for good, I will simply continue to gain weight as I age (which is the family history) and suffer the consequences of ill health.
  • Welcome to 3FC!!

Surf around and settle in! We have subforums based on age, eating plan, exercise and more. I'm glad you're here!!

Lots of us focus on healthy foods in appropriate portions and physical activity for good health. Taking time for your health NOW is a great idea. Check out the 20-something forum.
  • Hi TheSideShow

Welcome to 3FC! You should take a look at the Chicks in Control forum, hopefully you will find the support you need there. Although, unlike you, pretty much everyone on this site is trying to lose weight or maintain a weight loss, I think many of us are overweight because we don't have a healthy stable relationship with food either - but we are trying to develop one!

If you are currently at a healthy weight losing 25lbs does not sound like it would be a very good idea. Are you very tall? If you aren't I would strongly suggest 25lbs is too much to lose if you are within the healthy body weight range as it would probably put you at the very bottom end of healthy if not into underweight.

Enjoy the posts - I hope you find what you need to develop your healthy relationship with food.
  • Hi welcome!

I am in the same spot as you! Someone recommended the "featherweights" forum. I haven't had a chance to look through it too much yet, but you should check it out too!
Good luck! I have only been around for a few days and have been amazed at how nice everyone is!! It's been great!
  • Good luck! It's been harder for me to lose this last ten pounds than it was for the other 55. So I totally know what you are talking about.
  • Thanks for all the welcoming sentiment. You seem like a very supportive group of people.

Lillibeth-- I'm glad you caught that, it was a typo. 15 lbs is actually what I'd like to lose.
  • Good luck! I know you can do it!
