Hi from Washington State!

I'm 24 and have finally in my mind decided to lose weight. I've been overweight most my life and I've become far too comfortable with it. I think, in a way, I use food as a source of comfort and use my weight as a security blanket.

So, as a recent college grad I have decided to grow up and lose the weight, but it's a little scary! I know I can do it, but I just need a swift kick in the butt to do it and this place looks like it will do the trick! Hope to make lots of new friends!

Your story sounds exactly like mine. I have always been overweight and i'm sick of doing that to my body!

If you want a very supportive place to hold you accountable for exercise, you should check out the alternachicks "oh, fairest febuary" thread. They have been awesome support for me and hold me accountable for working out and are just there when i need someone to talk to.

But anyways, welcome! And good luck with your journey through weight loss!

Thanks for the replies. I've been reading around the forums and if I wasn't working right now I'd be out walking! You guys are very motivated - nice to know there is someone who feels my pain ;)

Most of my friends are average weights and the ones that are overweight don't want to lose, so I feel like I'm by myself a little bit. It's nice to find a support group.
