Gonna do it this time! :D
Hi all! I've been lurking around these forums for the last few weeks, figured I should just register already! :)
I'm 27 years old, been overweight since.... early high school, I think, though never as high as I am today, about 60lbs above a "healthy" weight. Duuuude. I joined WW about 3 years ago, and had a lot of early success, lost about 30lbs... before it just got to be too expensive. I figured I could save myself the $40/mo and just do it on my own, but I was wrong. :P Now, though, after 2 years in New York and Texas sitting on my butt eating french fries every day, I've moved to beautiful, active Portland, OR, and I'm going to get healthy for real this time. It seems like everyone here bikes to work, runs marathons, shops at the organic food co-ops... so, when in Rome, right? :) Here's what I've done to make sure I succeed this time. - Joined WW again 2 weeks ago. I need the structure and motivation of the weigh-ins and meetings to keep me focused all week. My meeting leader here is a real character, and so far it's been easy to keep myself on track knowing that she'll be keeping an eye on my numbers. :) - Started watching The Biggest Loser. I'd been hearing about it for years, but never watched it. It's silly at times, sure, but I like these kinds of shows, and it's another weekly motivation to look forward to. - Joined a 12-week running class! We meet twice a week for walk/runs, with the goal of being able to run all the way through a 5K in March. - Been tracking my food on The Daily Plate for the past 3 weeks. Every bite! Woo! I like the WW points system well enough, but over the years I've found I prefer straight-up calorie counting. TDP makes it easy. And it's free! - Just ordered a Bodybugg!! (Or, more accurately, a "gowear fit".) I looooove gadgets and numbers and stuff like that, and after a few weeks of lurking around reading the great info on this site, decided to take the plunge and get one off Amazon. I think being able to see exactly what my calorie deficit is each day will be a huge motivator for me both to eat the right amount of food, and also to move around more to see the numbers go up. It'll be more like a game, with instant feedback instead of guessing what went wrong or right at the scale. Can't wait for it to arrive! :) So yeah! Sorry to go on and on here, but like I said, I'm serious this time! :D Thanks everyone! :) |
Hey there, Jaja - :wel3fc:
We have a great Calorie Counters forum here, so you may want to check that out. We also have a BodyBugg users group, the 20-somethings for those in that age range, etc, so look around! I'm sure you'll find one or MANY spots to settle into and jump into posting. I just recently got a Polar Heart Rate Monitor that logs calories, and boy, seeing those numbers really IS motivating. I hope yours works really well for you. So look around, find a spot or several, settle in, and get to posting. Can't wait to get to know you better! |
Oh wow, thanks! I'll go find those groups! :D

Welcome jaja! Sounds like a great plan! Come see us in the exercise forum---we have a running thread and you are welcome to jump right in.
