In need of some encouragement and support...

Hello one and all...

I am looking for some encouragement and support on this weight loss journey I am about to undergo. Anyone searching for a buddy? I assure you...I can offer you support and encouragement along the way, too.

I am 39, married, with one son. My son has tons of energy (ADHD) and loves to be on the go. Unfortunately - I don't have a fraction of his energy because I am at 210lbs! My hubby is a workaholic - I love him very much - but he just isn't the support person I need for weight loss.

I am desperate...and not ashamed to admit it. I eat way too much - too much sugar, too much fat, too much of everything. I am an emotional eater.

I have some hopes and dreams that I would love to get on track with - but feel my weight will hold me back. I am a good friend, very loyal, open-minded, trustworthy, honest, and love to look at life in a postitive way (except for my eating habits and weight at the moment.)

If you're interested in being a buddy and getting one in return that will be there for you - I would love to hear from you...postings or private messages...It doesn't matter to me!

Good luck to everyone - we're here for a reason...WE CAN DO IT!

Hey Meridith - :wel3fc:

You've found a good spot to talk to people here! You might want to check out the 30-somethings, or any of our forums by eating plan.

Wherever you settle in, stick around here and keep posting. This is an excellent place for support! I can't wait to get to know you better!

Meredith, welcome! :celebrate:

Try the support forums, or most of the boards by eating plan or age group have chat threads. Those are a great way to get to know people here and find some buddies. Also check out challenge threads, which most of the boards have. Basically, everybody on here is your new weight loss buddy. :)

On the eating, I totally understand. That's where I was last year. If you have a hard time diving into a strict eating plan, it's okay to start small. I had to do that, and just once a month, I would set myself a small goal for improving on what I put in my mouth (for example, I gave up bread and potatoes right off, but still ate hamburgers and drank soda, because I just wasn't ready to give those up yet...I wanted to succeed at something, even if it was a small step in the right direction), and something for exercise (I started with what I was already doing, skating, and just determined to make it more of a workout, not just social time). Like you, I have other dreams and goals in life besides losing weight, so I also started making monthly mini-goals for each of those. I never was one for new year's resolutions, but I could make a monthly resolution of taking one tiny step forward in each of my goals. Maybe making your own similar list could help you get started? Be strong, and good luck! :)

Welcome to this forum! There is an overwhelming amount of support. There is always someone around who can help you with your needs here.
I've always strived to make my weight loss fun. I still eat the foods I like, I just decrease the portion size. If I want something sweet, I have a little snack.
If you just can't give something up, don't, give something else up.
I make it a goal to enjoy the weight loss journey. Don't get so stressed out you stop altogether. You will take steps back at times, but just keep pressing forward as much as you can and you'll get there.

Hi Meredith! I'm always here to be your buddy ;) I sympathize greatly with the emotional eating. I'm 25 and have struggled with it all my life. I also have moments of binge eating where I just go crazy and eat a ton in a sitting (think getting a medium pizza, eating half, along with some cheesesticks, a soft drink, and maybe some M&M's to snack on after) I LOVE food, the way it tastes, smells, feels in my mouth etc. I use it to celebrate, to comfort, to ease my boredom, you name it.

Your description of the kind of friend you are reminds me of myself. Sometimes I spend too much time focusing on others, that I forget to take care of myself. Good luck!!! and feel free to message me anytime, I'm here for you!!

Hi Meredith, I just (re-)joined, too. I can relate to what you are saying... I'm an emotional (chocolate) eater as well. And YES, we can do it!!! :carrot: I'll be your buddy if you like! :smug:
