Going back to a healthy weight.
Hello everyone!
I have been lurking around this forum for some time and felt amazed at your support and kindness, so I decided to join tonight. Call me Adel (short for Adelheid.) I am 23 years, an academic researcher and extremely poor. I find the latter two are synonymous, haha. :) My job involves sitting, reading, sitting, translating, transliterating, and more sitting. Background ramble: I have always been alright weight-wise, until I became ill when I was 20 and went from around 160lbs to 213lbs in a year. In October 2007 I finally had my chest surgery and the moment they let me, I started working on losing weight. I got it down to 186lbs with swimming 2 miles, 3 times a week and eating half of whatever I was eating before the surgery. Then it just stopped. No more weight loss. It keeps between 184lbs and 186lbs. I moved house 4 times and moved countries twice in the meantime. Now I am semi-settled for the next 6 months in a Japanese dormitory (I am very, very poor) without a kitchen. Feeling like the most unmotivated creature in the universe, I have reached the point where I am proud of myself for actually getting up in the morning. Forgo any form of exercise! But this week I thought: enough! Adelheid, look at yourself! Get up! Go do something about it! And here I am. :) I have no plan, or idea of what to do. I have just started taking walks every night after dinner for an hour, very firm pace. I also stopped using the lifts. I currently weigh 186, my goal is 167. My deadline is around the summer, because I will most likely have to move to Japan. Phew, sorry. Nice to meet you all! :) |
:welcome: Adel. first things first. make a gameplan!

Hi.:welcome2: Look around at the forums and just start posting wherever it feels right! There are many different methods of losing weight represented here. It sounds like what you are doing now is closest to calorie counting but feel free to read about the different diets people have found successful. I use South Beach, and have since July, but I have recently started to faithfully track my calorie intake too.
