hai2u, time to stop lurking.
hi everyone! i'm a 26 female living in montreal. september 11, 2008 i decided that it was time to lose my excess weight and become the thin person i've always wanted to be. i grew up as an overweight kid, i ate alot, didn't participate in any sports, groups really, nothing. i never had much self-discipline i suppose. anyway, my highest weight was probably around 185 and i'm just over 5'6". this was around the end of high school. i dont think i even really knew how fat i was. after moving out and starting college, i lost weight naturally.
then at age 20, a friend and i joined a weight loss clinic. i started at 170 pounds, and ended up being 148. the diet was really strict, and i didn't exercise much at all. after i moved away, and didnt have the accountability and support of the clinic, i strayed from my weight loss. i gained roughly 10-15 pounds back over the last few years. sometimes i would say i was going to lose weight, but i never actually stuck with it.
then january 2008, i decided to join a gym. i was serious about losing weight...this time. well, i did go to the gym, almost daily, but i didn't change my eating habits really at all. i wasn't watching calorie intake. and i was still consuming alcohol. needless to say, i didn't lose much at all. i stopped going to the gym and started eating more processed foods, i.e. lean cuisine.
then in august of 2008, around my 26th birthday, i was visiting family. i saw an old photo of myself from my lowest weight days, and i couldn't believe how i let myself gain the weight back that i had tried so hard to lose all those years ago. i was so cute, and young, and pretty, and smaller. i guess something kinda clicked and i thought, ok that's it, i'm not going to make excuses anymore. i'm just going to do it.
so on september 11, 2008, i decided that i was going to start south beach diet. i weighed 161 the day i started, and lost a few pounds those first 2 weeks. but after that the scale didn't want to budge. so i decided that if i really want to see a difference i need to cut my calories too. i try and exercise 5 times a week. some days i go for walks. some days i do the exercise bike at a good pace. and recently i started doing burst interval training too. i try to do conditioning like pushups and squats and abs too. since i started watching my calories i think i'm starting to see more of a difference. i rarely eat meat, and i don't eat dairy, except yogurt. and i only drink occasionally. the other day i weighed myself at 147.4.
im not sure what my goal is. i'd like to be thin, roughly a size 6.
so that's my story. you are all a great inspiration. looking forward to getting to know you all.
