Too Much on My Plate

  • Hey Everyone!

My name is O'Shea and I am fat.

I am 43 years old. I have been married for 14 years and while I have no children of the human persuasion, I do have two dog children that I adore. Also, I am a part-time college student majoring in Political Science.

Ok, so that's the superficial view of my life. My existence sounds pretty normal when described that way. There is much more to my story than I am comfortable telling new friends. All the things that I am leaving unsaid are the reasons that make it necessary for me to be here, posting on this site.

I joined Weight Watchers about a month ago and I have lost a few pounds since then. My leader stresses healthy eating habits rather than weight loss. That philosophy keeps me coming back. I know that if I eat right, I will lose weight, and it's nice to focus on health rather than my lack of willpower and my poor appearance. I have learned how to put together a balanced diet and I now realize that prior to beginning this program, I had no clue how much salt and fat I was cramming down my gullet each day.

The WW program is simple and I have followed it about 70% of the time, but I am far from being the self-disciplined woman that I will have to be to lose this weight and keep it off. I have PLENTY of obsticles that I will have to overcome in order to succeed. Eating less, eating right, exercising, building confidence and figuring out how to have less stress in my life are just a few of the issues I'll be tackling. I'm going to do it one baby-step at a time and I would love the opportunity to help other 3FC members that are baby-stepping it too.

Thanks for taking the time to read my intro.

  • Hi O'Shea! Welcome to 3FC! We're so glad you are here

  • You have definitely found a good companion to WW for your journey. 3FC is a GREAT place for support, ideas, advice, and fun!
  • SheaLo - what a great name! Welcome aboard, and baby steps WILL get you there... Good luck!
  • Hey O'Shea! I'm so glad you're here and posting.

We have a wonderful Weight Watchers forum here, with advice and support for those following either the Core or the Flex program, and with all kinds of people who've been working the same program. It's a really great spot! Head over and check it out.

As for the stress angle, I'm with you! Have you ever investigated using yoga or other stress reduction/deep breathing/cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to help with that? Personally, my FAVORITE stress reducer (and what has reduced my anxiety symptoms by 80% or more, AND improved my insomnia by leaps and bounds) is a regular exercise program.

Anyway, can't wait to get to know you better. Keep posting!
