No time like the present

Hello weight loss companions,

I’ve been viewing this site for about a year now and love this network. I’m here for support! I’m 27 and an emotional eater. I’m a bit high strung and use food to release stress and anxiousness. I’ve been yo-yo dieting/exercising for over 3 years now. I’ve been steadily gaining weight and now I’m at an uncomfortable weight of 160. I need to nip this in the bud now.

My main problem is I can’t seem to last longer than one week on plan. I have this immature view point that is unfair that I can’t eat whatever I want. If I eat what I want, when I want…I feel anxious.

My plan is calorie counting combined with low GI. I love starches and sugar and I know that if I stay off the white stuff I have a better chance of losing weight. I’m also going to hit the gym 5-6 days a week to burn off my stress instead of eat it. I’d love to look fantastic at xmas when I return home to Canada for a visit.

Thank you so much to everyone on the site. I can’t wait to get to know you.

Correction: I meant that if I CAN'T eat what I want, whenever I want...I feel anxious

Hi irishluck8! Stick around here and you'll find plenty of encouragement to last longer than a week! I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I've wanted to reach for that piece of chocolate or bag of chips, then I remember something about what someone here said and I tell myself no. It's a daily battle sometimes. Sounds like you are nipping it in the bud.

I like your post title, it's something I say to DH often, but I add "for a present." :D

Welcome

You will like calorie counting, because like you - the minute you tell me I can't have something - I want it all the more!

You CAN stick to calorie counting - it is a GREAT plan!

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress! Come back and post often.

:wel3fc: It is so great that you are here. :D

Calorie counting rocks. There are no forbidden foods. Nothing that you can't have, as long as you watch your portions and calories. For example, I had a rib eye steak and a baked potato and salad for dinner, last night. And it all fit within my target calories for the day. And made me sooo happy. :D

IrishLuck - A lot of those of us who've chosen calorie counting think the same way...tell me "No, you can't have that", and I want it. But the great thing is, I know that I'm in charge of my choices...so since I'm in charge, I make better ones (even though technically, on a calorie counting plan, I could have whatever I wanted and still be on plan)...eventually, my cravings shifted and now "what I want" and "what I should eat" have one heck of a lot of overlap.

Anyway, I'm so glad you found us. Settle in, look around, find a spot, and keep going. The "20-somethings" and "Calorie Counters" forums might be great spots for you to start.
