Tired of being fat and tired!

Hello, all.

I'm Carla, live in the Chicago area. I'm a 42-yr old mother of 3 (12, 10, and 10, yes, they're twins!), working professional, PTO officer, Band Booster, Scout Leader, and motorcycle rider / member of the Patriot Guard. Basically, I'm just too darn busy!

I am SO tired of being fat. My husband of 14 years loves me, and has never complained, but I *know* he'd find it so much sexier if I'd lose some weight and get back to where I was when we got married. That was a size 12 and 170 lbs, so that's somewhere around 70 pounds for me to lose. (OHMIGOD, have I really put on 70 pounds since then???? I am so ashamed of myself to have let it get this bad.)

For me, the weight affects my sleep, which affects my overall health. I'm constantly fatigued, tired, and run-down, and it's a never-ending spiral downwards into worse health. I don't sleep well most nights. My cholesterol is barely within limits; my blood sugar is OK (for now), but I know that I could have serious problems down the road. Because I'm so tired, I'll fix whatever's handy and quick, which usually means carb-laden stuff, not what I should be eating.

Both of my parents are diabetic, controlled by medication and diet. If they'd both lose weight, the diabetes would disappear. My brother had the same thing, and he's lost weight and improved his health and it's gone. My 74-yr old father had a triple bypass 30 years ago, and has had a couple angioplasties since then. He doesn't eat properly or exercise, but he's still kicking, through the grace of God.

I went on Atkins two years ago before we went to Hawai'i on vacation, and lost 20 pounds or so. Felt fantastic when I ate high protein/low carb. Then, of course, I stopped when we went on vacation, and my weight slowly crept back up. My BFF has been nagging me to lose some weight, wanting to help, but of course only *I* can make that decision, and now it's time. I've had it, I'm sick of being fat and tired!

I want:
  • to be healthy and happy and able to keep up with the kids, not sit on the sidelines!
  • to live to old age with my darling and handsome husband!
  • to have my husband to think I'm the hottest thing around!
  • to buy clothes off the rack that are cute and attractive!
  • to stop being afraid to be in any family pictures anymore because I hate how I look!

After picking up First for Women this week, and looking at the article on Wendy Chant's Crack the Fat Loss Code and carb-cycling, I'm hoping I can stick with something like this and not crave carbs like a maniac.

So I'm hoping that with the help of my BFF and this website and everyone here, I can do it!

Hi Carla

Welcome, you will find tons of information and great tips. I am fairly new myself and have enjoyed reading all the posts.

There are lots of Internet sites that do sell plus size lingerie. Maybe buying one piece might inspire you to continue eating healthy and exercising. Also, don't wait until you are 70 pounds lighter to wear something sexy. I bet your hubby would be thrilled if you wore something now. Sexy is not only body size, but attitude as well. It's the whole package that makes someone sexy.

Oh, I have a few sexy things I've bought, and trust me, his eyes light up when I put them on. :-)

My problem is usually that I'm just too dang tired to pull them out in the first place. Get the kids to bed, and I'm not far behind them. Sigh...

Welcome and good luck.

I know what ya mean...I feel sluggish all the time because I don't sleep well, because I don't eat well, because I just generally don't FEEL HEALTHY in this body. I feel like I'm trapped in someone else's body, really.

I made the decision yesterday to finally do something about it. I have a wedding (mine!) coming up in just over a year...and I am ****-bent on looking good. Not just because I want to look nice in the dress, but because I want to be able to pull those pictures out again and again and enjoy them, not getting grossed-out because of my weight. I can never look at pictures of myself! The only way I can look okay is if I take the shot myself, and it has to be from the neck up, at that special angle that removes my double-chin and chubby cheeks!

I, too, want my (future) husband to think I'm sexy. He says he does...and I was pretty overweight when he met me, so I believe him...but I know he would be psyched if I was thinner (and healthier!).

I'm trying to dedicate myself to posting here every day so I don't lose touch with the others out there who are fighting the same battle. Good luck to you! From what I've seen/read here, there is a lot of support for any who seek it.
