I did NOT like what the Scale said!

  • After being sick for over 8 years with Lupus, I have been on so many therpies to control my illness...I went to the Rheumtologst this last week and HAD to get on that scale..215 is what it said.. I was shocked!! (And so was my husband)! I have been on and off Predinsone (steroids) for my Lupus which attritubted to my weight gain!
I have been told for years that I could never loose the "steroid weight" and I should learn to deal with it..Well when your husband is a Personal Trainer, and you have spent your entire married life in a gym-I can't deal with it!

We also own a gym - and I know how every peice of equipment works, I know how diet works, and I have a great support system...But that dosen't help when your home in bed, in pain, eating comfort food!!

So here I am - I found this forum- Joined because I just LOVE the name - Ordered a book to learn how to eat to put my Lupus in Remission (lets hope it works) so I don't have to be on the horrid predisone anymore. And wanting to loose umm a LOT of weight! And get the old me back - before Lupus - before steroids and before doctors!

    Hugs!
    Nikki
  • Welcome!! You are going to LOVE this place!! I sure do!
  • . . . glad to have you joining us . . . have you discovered the Dieting with Obstacles forum yet . . . bet you'll find a few other Lupus survivors in there.
  • I hear ya! I've had lupus for 16 years. I have been on prednisone 3 times now, for about a year each time and it does pack on the weight pretty fast. I've gained as much as 10 pounds in a week on prednisone! however, I do not at all believe that that steroid weight has to be permanent. whoever said that is wrong.

i wasn't getting much of anywhere until i did both diet *and* exercise. I always try to get away with jsut doing one, but it doesn't work. what works for me is eliminating wheat and eating lots of fruits and veggies, and not much salt.
