Unhappy So Here I Am

So...here I am.

I'm 20. I'm a student in college working on a math degree. I am tired of food controlling my life. I have gained 45 pounds in the past two years. I am now "an embarrassment" to my boyfriend (his words) because I have become antisocial (due to weight issues).

I hope that I can gain the support I desperately need here. I'll be swinging by whenever I feel the need to go gorge myself on McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, or any other fast food place within a three block radius of my apartment. Hopefully this forum can motivate me to keep away from those nasty demons.

Thanks for reading,

Hiya OnlyMeantWell

You may want to check out the 20-something's area, or if you're following a specific program there are many to be found under Diet Central. A word about the boy. Anyone calling me "an embarrassment" would not be allowed around me ever again.

Have a look around & post wherever you're comfortable!

Best of success! You can do this

Welcome!

Ditto on the boyfriend. You need words of encouragement.
Are there any places nearby that sell healthier foods? Even corner stores sometimes sell ready-made foods that are less calorie/fat laden than than fast-foods.

Ellis,

I have discovered that! All this time I thought homemade foods were sooo expensive, but I just made hummus the other day and couscous and bought some whole grain bread (which was really expensive, but the only super expensive thing I bought!)

This site has been wonderful, it's only day 3 for me and I feel fantastic!

And about the boyfriend...we had words.

All is well, I understand where he's coming from; he's not embarrassed about my WEIGHT, but about my antisocialness..when I get around his friends I don't talk because I constantly think they are judging me.

He told me he would love me no matter what I look like but he doesn't like the fact that because of my low self-confidence (due to the extra poundage) I have developed a different personality...

I can understand that! Thanks for all your support fellow 3FCs.

-Liz.

hi Liz --
Glad you clarified about the boyfriend, and glad you have someone like him in your life!

I turned 52 over the weekend and am a college _professor_, and I sometimes have the same I-can't-be-social-b/c-I'm-too-conscious-of-my-weight thing, so I definitely can sympathize. You have to still love about yourself the things your BF does -- your intelligence and sense of humor and commitment to changing the world. (Or whatever!) Then, when you have a positive attitude, it's easier to commit to doing healthy things. (Yeah, I know, chicken and egg -- it's easier to feel positive when you're already being healthy.)

Hang in there, and keep posting!

That makes sense. I'm glad you've got good support from him.
