Ciao, tutti!

I've always struggled with my weight, and managed to delude myself that I'm not in too a bad shape. However, I got a wake up call this week I can't ignore. I went in on Monday for surgery, but my weight hampered my airway. So, the surgery was not a sucess.

I need to drop at least 100 lbs, 110/120 would be better. I don't have elevated BP, blood sugar, cholesterol or any other problems. My insurance will pay for a lap band, and I am going to actively pursue that route. I just phoned to schedule a sleep study test, which is one of the requirements for the lap band procedure.

I have to limit my physical activity, as I suffer from Meniere's Disease, which throws my balance off severely. I hope to get some good tips from this site, as I've heard so many good things about it.

Hi there Ciao Bella :wel3fc:

There are a couple of areas that you might like to check out. There's the Dieting with Obstacles, and there's the 100lb club, and of course, the Weight Loss Surgery area. I'm sure people all around will be willing to help you on your path!

Best of success!

Hey Ciao Bella - :wel3fc:

I'd like to second all of Faerie's suggestions...looks like she found some spots where you'd fit well.

As for the Menieres, I know that staying active despite the symptoms is really important. I'm sure you talked to your doctor about this, but have you tried all of the lifestyle changes that can make a difference, like a low-sodium diet or reducing caffeine intake? Staying active can slow the disease progression, so you want to try if you can...talk to your doctor about what can be done.

Otherwise, settle in and keep posting. Can't wait to get to know you better!

Hi, Mandalinn

I've got the Meniere's under some semblence of control, for now. Stress is my biggest enemy right now, and I am under a tremendous amount. The surgery this past Monday set a HUGE vertigo attack, and combined with my airway problems worried the doctor enough that he kept me overnight, considering it was just a day surgery.

I do yardwork, within reason, so I like to think I'm still active, though I'm no where's near active enough, I know. Now that the weather is getting nice again, I can take up walking. Once it gets too hot, I'll have to find something else.
