Another newbie from Canada
I'm recently 'back on the wagon' after 3 years of ignoring my 'increasing problem'. I've always been fairly active regardless of my excess poundage, but when going out for a simple brisk walk with the pooch left me winded, never mind the 'nearly passing out' bending over to do up my shoes, I decided enough was enough.
So here I am. I keep track of daily intake of calories and water and exercise using a nifty little programme I found several years ago for my Palm. It has a huge database of foods, and you can add your own. I find it really works for me. I'm not following any specific plan, tho', other than avoiding starchy carbs, which have always been an addiction for me. After not gaining anything over the holidays, I hit my all-time high of 250 lbs at the end of January. At 5'4", I could be a blocker in the NFL! After 4 weeks of managed eating, I am down 10 lbs. My ultimate goal is 160, and right now, I haven't set a timeframe. My intermediate goal is 200 by the end of July. Holidays are in August, and I have been saving for a kayak. I'd like to be able to buy it, and fit in it! lol I'm getting amazing support from my DS (dear spouse), but also wanted to share this journey with folks who face the same challenges I do. DS definitely does not. So a big 'G'day, eh?' from north of the border. Daffy |
Hiya Daffy :wel3fc:
Congrats on those 10 pounds down, and it's nice to see that you're already active, that'll be sure to help you out. If you're watching your calories, you might be interested in the Calorie Counters area. No need to set any timeframes :) Little by little we all chip away at this weight problem we have. So, have a look around. Post where you're comfortable. And if you have questions about things, ask! Best of success!!! |
Welcome, Daffy! :welcome3:
I hear ya re: bending over to tie shoes. And a kayak! That's one of my motivations, too! I can't even imaging trying to "roll". I just know I'd be hanging upside down in the water... drowning. Maybe we'll meet at the Kayak Club some day. :) |
:wel3fc: DAFFY from another Canuk . . . glad to have you joining us; know you will love all the support that you'll find around here.
We have a Crazy Canuks Cluck Club in the Support Groups area -- hope you'll drop in to say HI from time to time. Good Luck on the continuing journey to better health and fitness . . . |

Hi Daffy,
I am in Canuckstan as well, a bit south-west of you. Welcome here and I hope you will enjoy it. I joined 3FC only a month ago and I think this is the best forum I have ever been on - ever time I read posts here, I want to jump on my treadmill and exercise!!! |
