Hi new here!

  • I have been lurking here on and off for awhile now but decided it is time to introduce myself.

I am a 23 year old Mommy of one and married to my sweetheart who is currently in the army.

My Highest I have been is 230 pounds (after I was preggy of course then I was at 250.. ouch)

When my Hub first deployed I ended up losing 50 pounds. Now that he came home I have gained 10 of those back and decided it is time to start again.

I lost the first 50 on a modified atkins diet but now that my hub is home he simply wouldnt do that.

BTW he gained some weight at home too and has decided it is time to get in better shape as well. YAY

SO we joined a gym together. And will be starting the South beach diet this week. (Well today) We went over in on the weekend and decided it was the best way to stay on track.

When we Joined the gym they did a free fitness profile( a polar assessment).. they did all these tests to see where we stood health wise..
The thing is they discovered my BMR (basic Metabolic rate) was only 1500 calories... when my doctor told me at my check up it was around 2000 and told me to go on a 1500 calorie a day diet.. obviously they just calculated it from my weight and height??.. Well they were wrong. I know other places test you and I urge you to get it!

It also said that of my 189 pound frame... 79 was FAT! OUCH...

Well anyway.. Hi ALL and I cant wait to get back into shape! I have a 5 year wedding anniversay this year in May and we are going to FLorida and DIsney! I want to at least lose 20 pounds.

  • Hi &

Jump on in and post wherever you're comfortable!

Best of success to you & your husband!
  • Hey JonsGurl -

Just a note - you do need SOME fat to survive...at least 10% of that is "survival" or "essential" fat...the amount of fat your body needs to have on it to live. So that's 20 lbs or so of the fat on your body that you can't get rid of...and that would be unhealthly levels of body fat. So don't get too discouraged by the lbs of fat number!

That being said, you may want to visit the 20-somethings forum, as well as our South Beach area. Both could be a great fit for you. Settle in, find a spot, and most of all keep posting. See you around!
  • Welcome to the forum!
I've had that test. I was put on a "diet" of 1700-2000 calories a day in order to lost two pounds a week. Which actually worked, and seemed like quite a bit of food!
