HI there. I am a newbie to the world of diet. I had graves disease so my dr. did the radioactive iodine and killed off my thyroid almost two years ago. Since then I take my synthroid daily but also gain around 5 pounds a week. I was 140 when the procdure was done March 2005 and I am now 220. :( I was asked by my lil cousin to be in her wedding in July and I am so embarrased by my size that I almost said no. The other bridesmaids are all tall and thin, Ive got the tall (I am 5'11) but they are all size 5 and size 7 twenty somthing year olds and I am the only 30year old size 16 :(

I started the south beach diet on monday and have not cheated but it seems to make me even more tired then I was before. I also am doing yoga three days a week for a half hour (but my balance isnt so good lol and I am so tired and sore afterwards I have to take a nap) I have actually put on so much weight I dont even look like the same person anymore

Any suggestions would be awesome !!!!

I included a photo from May 2006 (swimsuit) and one from Jan 2008

Hi there & :wel3fc:

Sorry to hear about your medical issues, you may find some advice over in the Dieting with Obstacles area, or the South Beach Diet forums under Diet Central. Perhaps other people have had similar problems with being tired.

Stick with it :) You can do this!

Best of success!!!

Hi and welcome!

I just wanted to add that there are successful losers here who have thyroid conditions. You'll probably find them in that obstacles forum. And you can specifically look up Meg. It's so nice to know that you are not alone and that this can be done.

Welcome Kathee,

I'm sorry about your health issues, and it's really a bummer to have the extra negative effect on weight.. Maybe you'll have a harder time than others at losing it, but I'm sure it's not impossible.

Don't give up! And balance improves as muscles get stronger and "keep you straight"! So there's no other way that keeping at it!

All the luck and see you around!
