I have rejoined MRC today after 11 months. Have since been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have found it increasingly difficult to lose weight. I feel terrible most of the time probably a combination of the weight and thyroid. I'm hoping to lose the weight this time and just feel better. Any tips to stay on track are welcome.

I'm hypothyroid, too, and I hear what you're saying. The weight doesn't come off easy sometimes. But good for you that you're doing it for yourself because you want to feel better - that will be great motivation for you. Hope to see you around!

Hey Liberty -

Have you visited our "Dieting with Obstacles" forum yet? We have several regular posters that have thyroid issues, and talking to them might be a good thing!

Otherwise, just settle in and keep posting. Can't wait to get to know you better!

hi liberty44 -- (raising hand) I have hypothyroidism.

tips to stay on track... hmmm...

first - pick your diet program and stick to it

second -- stick to it because sometimes the scale will not reflect your efforts --- but knowing that you are sticking to it will give you something to look forward to.

third -- exercise -- take baby steps, begin with walking 10 minutes one way and 10 minutes back -- that's 20 minutes right there! try to exercise at least 3 times a week, more if you feel up to it.

fourth -- shake up your calorie intake -- of course the first step is to reduce from whatever level it is -- so if your current intake is about 2300 -- reduce to about 2000,

fifth -- monitor your calories (many diet software available online many with free 7 or 10 day trials). Log in your meals and the program totals calories for you.

six -- make a list for yourself of your top ten reasons for wanting to succeed -- put it somewhere you can see it every day!

seven -- there are many great forums here -- something for everyone... post, ask questions, read inspirational stories...

Finally - know that you can do this, and you and only you can do it!

TO SUCCESS IN THE QUEST!

BEST,
B
