Cool Hello !

Hi everyone!

I started on the Grapefruit / New Mayo diet and this is my 3rd day. Three whole pounds down!

I know it's not the healthiest diet in the world, but I am only going to use it to kick start some decent weight loss then move to something more sensible.

I'm doing it for fertility reasons and also because I know i need to lose a little weight. (I'm 5'2" 178 lbs as of this a.m. -- I carry my weight well.)

Thank you for reading and I am looking forward to the support here.

Good morning!

We're glad you're here.

I love grapefruit and I'm all in favour of starting with a jump. Hang around, we're happy to help you transition into something else.

Have you had a look around? Is there anything we can help you find?

I was hoping to find success stories for this diet I'm on.

It's basically Atkins with a glass of grapefruit juice at each meal and a glass of milk before bed. (Actually 8 oz for those fluids.)

I know it was a hugely popular fad diet -- it's just easy to follow though and I'm cutting out processed foods. Anyway, thank you for the welcome.

There's lots of folks who low carb one way or another. Here's the low carb forums.

And, honestly, an awful lot of us kinda make up our own plan as we go.

We're here for ya!

Thanks you guys.

Off to buy more grapefruit juice and bacon. I didn't plan on my husband actually doing it along with me and now we need staples.

I want to also get some SF jello, but I don't want it to stall us -- I can't imagine one a day would. I'm more worried about him drinking 5 Diet Rites and a bag of sugar alcohol laden candies (watch out for the bathroom!) causing him a stall. We'll avoid those!

I couldnt do that diet...but only because I think grapefruit is vile. It may truly be the one fruit I despise. Anyway, we have atkins forums and low-carb forums so you should find lots of help there!

Welcome!

Grapefruit *is* vile. It supposedly has some sort of fat burning enzyme in it... at least that's what the fad diet pages say.

Love your before/after pics! My sister got married in Nov and I stood up for it, so there will be PLENTY of "before" pics for me... I feel just huge in the photos...although my hair looks great.

She made us wear brown. Poo brown.

Can you tell me how this diet helps with fertility? I had trouble conceiving and am thinking about trying again soon. I haev heard grapefruit helps. Does your DH really drink 5 diet cokes cause supposedly caffeine is not good for fertility either!

I also hate grapefruit. Is the juice sweetened?

Welcome to 3FC!
I'm with Ennay... grapefruit is about the one food I can't get down.

The diet only helps with fertility (as far as I know) in the weight loss sense. I don't remember the exact stat, but something like even a 10% weight loss can improve your chances of conceiving dramatically. (I don't ovulate regularly.... I didn't ovulate regularly at 21 years old and 125 lbs either though....but some how my new infertility guy thinks this can "fix" my problems. (I don't have any other issues... things like my thyroid and adrenal gland get checked a lot.) My dad is type II though and so was his mom.

No, the juice isn't sweetened, but it's only 1 cup 3x per day.... or 1/2 a grapefruit 3x per day. If you google "new mayo diet" or 'grapefruit diet" that's what we're doing.

There's actually a book called Fertility Foods that I have that mentions stuff like yams... but a lower carb / real foods diet is pretty much what's recommended... lots of veggies and stuff. It tends to focus on people who have PCOS or who are insulin resistant if I recall correctly.

No, my DH doesn't drink pop much at all.... but if I bought him some Diet Rite then I imagine he'd snarf it down because it is sweet! He does drink coffee (black) though.... I don't think Diet Rite has caffeine... but also, he's already had his "little men" checked out and everything was fine with them. So the problem is with me.

Let me know if you have any more ?
