bipolar, fat momma of 3

Hi. I am a momma to 3 beautiful kids. My daughter is 6, and my twin boys will be 3 in April. I have been married to my husband for almost 8 years. I am at my largest weight ever right now. I about died when I went to the Dr and found out what I weigh. I am very unhappy. I have to do something. Trouble is, I am not able to do much at the moment. I am post surgery by 2 months. I had a bone transplant in my right ankle. I am not allowed to put any weight on it. I am in a removable cast, but I am not allowed to take it off unless I am bathing. I do not know what to do, or where to turn. I am on medication for bipolar. The ones in the past, along with my bad eating habits have caused me to gain too much weight. I need help and support. I have nobody. My only rock is my mom and my husband. My husband could stand to loose about 40 pounds. My mom is a good bit overweight, so it is hard to get support from them. I do not have any friends where I live. The people I do talk to are not the happiest people to be around, so they are no help. I also made a post for exercise ideas I could do without standing. If you have any ideas, please let me know either here, or in the exercise forum.

I remember seeing a workout series called "sit and be fit" or something along those lines. It's specifically for people who are chair bound for whatever reason, be it long term or short term. Good luck on your journey!!

Are you familiar with Susan Powter? She did the 'Stop the insanity' book etc.
Despite not being popular anymore, her book had a lot of motivational impact that I still remember. She broke both ankles or feet and could not walk at all for months. She continued to do an exercise program from a seated position and kept on track, never allowing that injury to stop her weight loss. Look at the library for the book. Maybe it will help you.

Hi Taterbug!

First off, have you visited our "Dieting with Obstacles" forum? Bipolar disorder, and the medications used to control it, present some unique challenges for weight loss. We have forums specifically for people with Depression to discuss those issues.

Second, there ARE options for exercise, if you are willing to look kind of hard for them. If you have a gym membership, your gym may have an upper-body bike...like a stationary bike, but you pedal with your arms. Sit and be fit is good also. Strength training with your upper body would help too.

Can't wait to get to know you better!
