Am I the only guy here?

Either way, there's already some good advice on this site. I'll be turning 40 in '08, so maybe I'm going through a mid-life crisis :) Just looking to shed as much fat as I can. I'm in Michigan, by the way. Glad I found this forum!

Another guy here

Hi,

You're not the only one; there's a good handful. Just keep your eyes open.

Be careful though, you can't reliably tell by the avatar's because eye candy is popular for avatar's.

And also, if you spot a weight lifter named Mel, don't jump to the obvious conclusion that Mel is short for Melvin.

Welcome. Have you started a diet plan and/or an exercise plan yet?

Thanks, Bill. My answers are: somewhat, and not really. Just by cutting out pop (soda, as the rest of the world calls it), and candy, I lost close to 20 lbs. (From 220 to 200-205). I'm fluctuating between 200 and 205 now, and I really want to lose this gut!

Are there any good threads on here that give good exercise/diet advice for men?

Thanks again for the welcome.

Quite a few men here, and successful at weight loss, too.

Hey there Pudding :welcome:

That's a great start cutting down on excess treats & sweets, and congrats on your loss so far! 20 lbs is awesome!

I don't know of any specific "for men" tips, but I think eating & exercising common sense go a long way with everyone here. For example, if you aren't exercising, or haven't in a long time, you may want to start out slowly, like taking short walks or doing small lifting exercises. If you start out small you can then build up overtime to what is healthiest for you. I began exercising by taking walks during my two short breaks at work. Very small amount, but I've built up to more from there.

About eating, having you taken a good look at all the other foods you eat? Are you getting enough fruit & veg? Perhaps you need to know how may calories you're eating. There are free online sites that help track or even a pen & paper works wonders.

Keep us updated on how things are going ^^

Best of luck!!!

Thank you, folks. Definitely not enough fruits/veg. I will take my time perusing the site this weekend. I'm sure I'll get some inspiration as well.
