Talking On my way

Hi everyone,
I have been lurking at the posts for some time now and I finally got registered so I don't have to just lurk!!
I am 38 years old married to my first love and we have 3 children. We live in a small farming community and love it!! We love animals. We have 3 dogs (a beagle, a mini dash and a pom) we also have a cat who thinks she is a dog!! We also have 2 birds (who have themselves 5 eggs so we should have more little birdies soon hopefully) and we have 2 horses ~ so living in the country is good for us.
I have always had a weight problem. Both my parents are overweight and I was brought up with no sense of eating healthy ~ which has damaged me tremendously. I say that because I have passed it down to my children. I reached my highest weight of 310. I just couldn't believe I did that to myself. I have since gone down to 266 which I haven't been there in so long. We have changed our eating. I don't like thinking of us being on diets because I have tried so many diets and found out they don't work. We just say we have changed our eating lifestyle.
It isn't easy, but I think we all know that.
I am trying to get in 3 meals a day (which before I always tried to not eat much thinking that would do it, but it doesn't!!) So, I am eating my 3 meals and having a couple of snacks too.
I have set a goal for me when I reach 250 I will treat myself to a perm. I want to get a spiral perm and I can't wait!! Also, I have told myself that when I get to that weight, I can ride our horse!! That is something I have wanted to do since we got her, but being 310 I knew I wasn't going to do that to her!!
So, I am sure glad I am here and I hope that I can offer support and receive support too.
God Bless you all,
Tari

Thumbs up

Tari, to 3FC! Please post often, and keep us updated on your progress! It's great that your family is doing this with you.
I am so jealous of all your animals - I can't wait to live in the country and have a whole menagerie
Riding your horse will be a cool reward once you've lost enough weight!
Best of luck,

Default Hey Country Girl!!!!

Hi, its good to have you around. Sounds like you really enjoy having animals. My brother was the one in my family that loved animals ever since he was a little boy, he had pony. When he got older he got mostly Tenn.Walking horses that he would put in horse shows,it was so much fun to watch him.
I myself only have one house dog. Just this summer sold 30 head of cattle. Don't get to attached to cattle even though I had a couple favorites. Anyway good luck on your weight loss, you have already done a really good job!!!

Hi Tari, Congratulations! You have already taken the first steps to make sure you and your family are healthy. Diets do make you lose weight, but just for a short period of time. Then you go back to eating the way you were eating before and you get the same results you had before. Changing your lifestyle is the only permanent way. I too reward myself for weight loss. I do something small for every 5 lb. something bigger for every ten. It's something to look forward too, and kind of makes it a game.

Changing the way you eat is not always easy. But it's the only way. Have you started exercising yet? I highly recomend it. Just walking is fine. I'm a nurse and I think I walk a thousand miles a day at work, but it's not the same as walking a mile at one time.

Thanks to you, your children won't have the problem that you have. You are going to be teaching them the right way to eat and be healthy.
