Single Momma looking for support

  • Hi! I'm new to this site, but so far I find it very impressive. I think it could be exactly what I need in terms of support.

I am the single mother of a 3-year-old girl. During my pregnancy, I gained a phenomenal amount of weight that I managed to lose, then successfully gain back. I am tired of fad diets and failed workout regimes. I'm ready to loss weight, be fit, and most importantly, be healthy. I would love to find a "buddy(ies)" who will encourage me and be encouraged by me to begin a new life... a healthy one.

Is anyone up for the challenge?

    Jill
  • Welcome to 3FC! I am temporarely a single mom wjy my husband is going through basic training and school for the Army.

It can be very hard to change the old eating habit when you are by yourself with just a little one. This place is a great start to that change!
  • I'm also a single mom to an almost 2 year old and I'm new too! just wanted to say welcome!
  • Thanks
    Thanks for the replies
  • Hey There!
I'm not single but I'd be interested in being a buddy. I also have a little one, he's only 19 months though. I think we have similar weight loss goals and it could be fun to help each other out. I'm only a week into my lifestyle change and still very motivated.

Tip of the day: Pack a lunch! I eat a packed lunch everyday and for the longest time it has been the healthiest thing I eat. I make a turkey on wheat with fresh green leaf lettuce, tomato, bread & butter pickles (packed separately to keep the sandwich from getting soggy) 2% sharp cheddar and mustard.

I also pack three snacks (1 sweet, 1 salty and 1 dairy). Today I have a 100 calorie packet of cinnamon teddy grahams, 1 serving of garden hearvest vegetable medly crackers (counts as 1/2 a serving of veggies) and a piece of vermont extra sharp white cheddar.

Whenever I get bags of things like crackers or chips, I immediately portion them out in zip lock snack bags. That way, I only eat one portion at a time and know exactly how many calories I had and how much fat etc. It also saves time during the morning to have a bunch of pre portioned snacks ready to hand. I also make my sandwich before I go to bed at night so I have more time in the morning.

Planning evening meals is critical because it makes me far less likely to give in to the time demons and get fast food. I like to slice chicken breasts into small pieces and then bake them with garlic, a little low sodium salt, and a little pepper. Then I portion them into zip lock bags and freeze them. That way, during the week I can simply throw the chicken in a skillet with some frozen veggies and seasoning and voila! A quick, healthy and CHEAP dinner.

I'm a coffee addict, so to make sure I drink all my water I won't allow myself my morning cup of coffee until I've downed 16 ounces of water. I have a 16 ounce bottle of water at lunch, after I work out in the afternoon and with dinner. Planning these water portions is the only way I can be absolutely sure to drink my 8 8 ounce cups a day. I usually drink more in between these scheduled doses but the schedule helps me be sure.

I add a little activity to my evenings by taking my son to the park for half an hour every evening after dinner. He loves it and I get to move about a bit after sitting and eating.

Well, this is some of my advice and what I'm doing to help shed my excess weight. What kind of things are you doing?
  • Welcome
Hi, I'm new as well. I am a stay at home mother of two beautiful boys (3 and 4 1/2) I am starting a new workout today, after I drop my boys off at preschool and daycare. They are only gone for three hours, which gives me 2 1/2 hours to get something accomplished.

I would love to have a buddy to push me as well. I need that push to get myself up and moving. I am not single but I mind as well be. My husband is never around and when he is he is less than supportive and doesn't seem to get the fact that I need time for myself to workout. But that is neither here nor there.

I just wanted to say welcome and maybe we could help each other reach our goals.
