Hi:
I usually post on the Age 50+/ Golden Girls site but saw your post and thought I'd respond. What kind of a job do you have where you have to lose weight in order to keep it? Just wondering.
I had 80 pounds to lose and so far I have lost 10 pounds. There are all kinds of diets out there, as you well know. They all promise a loss if you stick to the program. The key is sticking to the program and not cheating.
Also, exercise plays an important role in your success.

The more muscle you have the more calories you burn. The success of these diets depend on many things. First of all, don't go on a fad diet because you will end up gaining all the weight back. I've done that in the past and it's not a fun journey. I know on the Golden Girls site there are ladies that are on Sugar Busters, Weight Watchers, calorie counting, and just plain healthy eating. Everyone has a different body type and everyone will lose differently. So, to judge how much you will lose because someone else lost on a certain program is not reasonable.
It is considered healthy if you lose 2 pounds per week. If you exercise and stay on a healthy eating program it is reasonable to expect to lose approximately 24-30 pounds in 3 months, in my opinion. But again, it depends on your body and how much exercise you do. The slower you lose it, the longer it stays off, and the healthier you become.
If I were you, I would find a support group here and choose a program immediately. Get the Sugar Busters Book at the library, go to a local WW meeting, or begin counting calories tomorrow. There are all kinds of sites here that you can read and see where you would feel comfortable and begin posting. Let the people here help you with your program and questions. They are very supportive.
You should begin an exercise program where you walk, do some aerobic exercise, and use hand weights or bands 5-6 days a week. Start small and build up the time you spend exercising. Your local libary should have some information for you. There are all kinds of videos you can pick up for your aerobic exercise.
So, schedule a time for you to exercise each day. Make it a priority. Again, start small and build up so you are doing at least 30 minutes of walking and 30 minutes of aerobic and weights. Drink 64 ounces of water every day. Eat 3 meals a day, plenty of vegetables, lean meats (chicken/turkey), and fruit. Stay away from junk, sweets, etc.
Besides 3 Fat Chicks, there are websites like dottisweightlosszone.com or weightwatchers.com where you can get receipes and motivation.
If you follow a healthy program you can lose the weight and keep it off. I hope this helps you in some way. I know you can do it!
Good Luck.
