*waves* I am the new chick

Good morning motivators! My name is Ashleigh, I'm new to the 3FC boards. I am here because I have plateaued on a weight loss journey that I have taken all by myself.

I am currently 22. From the age of 14 - 19, I maintained 110 lbs without issue, no matter what I ate or how much (I'm 5' 3"). Then, when I hit 19, I not only met my husband, I started gaining weight - FAST. I gained 50 lbs in one year, skyrocketing from 110 to 160 in 13 months. I was miserable, covered in stretch marks, and confused.

After a long time of searching and coming up with no conclusions, I had resigned myself to the fact that maybe it was all me. Maybe I was the reason for my continued weight gain, despite restrictive diets and insane exercise. But then someone mentioned PCOS. I was intrigued, and after visiting many doctors who wrote my weight gain off as "marriage related" I found one who diagnosed me with PCOS, from a combination of hormone levels, weight gain, facial hair, and anovulation.

My husband deployed in January and I have done so well. With Metformin and my own determination, I have managed to go from 160 down to 138.5, only to bounce back to 142 and stay there. For months.

I can't do this on my own anymore. My friends and family (mostly overweight) sabotage me with constant barrages of fattening meals and invitations out to dinner. While many believe I have no reason to lose any more weight, I know that I need at least another 12 pounds gone to be truly healthy.

The good news is, since losing the weight, I have stopped having tingling in my lower legs, sleep better, have less problems with GERD, and have actually begun ovulating!!!

But now, I come here, looking for support during my final push towards success.

I look forward to getting to know all you great people.

Hey Ashleigh! :wel3fc:

We have a forum especially for those who have obstacles to weight loss, and PCOS is one of the conditions many 3FC members have. I'm sure you can find support here!

Don't worry, you can learn to deal with those well-meaning people who want to feed you the "wrong" foods! It's a matter of having a plan and being able to say no in a kindly way.

See ya on the threads! :cb::cb:

Welcome Ashleigh! Sounds like you have had great success so far! It's hard to fight through those plateaus. What have you tried to get through it?

Thakns for the welcome everyone!

I have tried EVERYTHING. Eating less. Eating more. Exercising less. Exercising more.

Right now, I am trying a liquid diet (meal replacement protein shakes, multivitamins and fluids) totaling around 1200 calories a day. So far, it seems to be working, but I am also still above where I always plateau - so it remains to be seen if it will break that for me.

tomandkara 08-04-2007 09:04 AM

That's frustrating. I'm sorry I don't have more advice. Here's hoping the liquid thing works out for ya!

When's your man due home? My husband's military, too. It's no picnic sometimes, but mostly we enjoy this life.

:welcome2: to 3fc Ashleigh. It is hard to lose weight at the best of times but when health issue conspire against us it makes it extra hard to shift those pesky pounds.

Here on 3fc there is a forum for those ladies whom have PCOS you may find some advice and support that you may need.

But whereever you go on 3fc you will find support and people willing to help you during those difficult times that we all have along the way.

:goodluck: with the rest of your weight loss journey and reaching your goal. I hope that it is not to long now until your husband comes home and you can enjoy some together time.

tomandkara 08-04-2007 07:24 PM

Ah. OPSEC. At least you have a countdown! Do you get to talk or e-mail him much?

Kara

Marinewife05 08-04-2007 08:37 PM

Yes - daily. he is coming home for R&R soon before heading back to finish his tour, so we are holding onto that right now.

The closer it gets the further away it seems!

tomandkara 08-05-2007 03:22 AM

Are you meeting him somewhere or is he coming to you? That's so exciting! Tom left for Korea two and a half months before the kids and I came over and it was awful. I can't say I hated every second of it because we were with family and they were very supportive, but I hated the majority of it. I'm a big humungous wimp about being apart from him.
