Question New Active Member in WI - Which plan to use???

Hi there – I been a member on this site for a while well more of a lurker reading things here and there trying to find my way to something that may stick in helping me getting of the last few pounds from my baby boy ok so he is not a baby anymore he is five but that last 15 pounds just won’t go away. I am in my mid 30’s.

We reside in WI close to the MN Twin Cities border but I work in the cities. I am a mom of 3 – well 4 if you include DH . I have been struggling with weight all my life and always been on the chubby side since oh about 10 or so. Not really because of junk food my mom is a cook from scratch kind of mom but because I love to eat, I think I am a carb and sugar addict. I do eat whole grain and for the most part keep it low on candy type sugar but I mean like other sugar foods like butter and jam on my bagel and Nutella on the bagel kind of sugar oh yea and the occasional ice cream. With my last child I did gain a lot and while at home was able to get most of it of expect this stubborn 10 pounds but I have no idea how I managed to drop the weight over the course of two years that is.

Between the toddler, the five year old and our teenager and a job etc I have little motivation to work out but I do try to here and there. So you see no will power either.

Now what kind of diet can you find with that? That I think is the biggest struggle I have, what is right for me – no will power, can’t drop the carbs and some sugar, don’t have much time to cook the way I want anymore. So to those pro’s on the board that sound like me at one time how did you get over that hump? A lot of times I am so busy I either forget to eat or eat something quick and of course wrong. I do not drink soda for the most part but lots of water.

Welcome an good luck. The diet you should go on is the one that works for you. You may need to experiment until you find what is right for you.
I have done lots of diets and usually have been successful.I have found that calorie counting and exercise works best for me.Go to 3FC main page and click on Diets and you will find many diets explained or go to the forums there are lots of diets there.

Does counting calories not take up a lot of time? I tried the carb diets of course no bread no go. Tried the Body for Life and I don't even remember wh that did not work. Did the Weight Watchers but tracking my foods does not always work and I have not quite found a decent tool to track them on the go. I did eDiets and switched arround in a few with no go. Of course that I have to cook for the family and sit in an office where people bring in a lot and eat out a lot does not help thought try not to do that.

I also tried jut tracking foods but I always give up to easy? That whole will power thing again so how do you stay on track how long do you try a diet to know it works?

Thx

You seem convinced that you can't do this.

Are you looking to change your mindset, or to have your can't-s validated?

I am not sure how you get that I am "convinced" that I can't do this.

I know I can do it if I can find the right thing - I went up to 165 during pregnancy and lost the majority of it since then. So I say I did it. But what worked before no longer works and what I tried since then did not work.

So it was a simple question to others on experience of "how do you stay on track - how do you tackle that last few pound" especially when life is very busy not "....tell me what I can and can't do... ???

Have you ever worked in sales? Salesmanship 101 is about countering every objection. It seems to me that that's what you're looking for.

The problem is, what you put into your body has to be your own decision and your own motivation.

No can’t say I have and know I never will. But If I find that cup of motivation to read about Salesmanship 101 I’ll be sure to pass it on. Thanks for the Psychology 101.

I'm old and fat. I've tried calorie counting it's too complex for me. i've done weight watchers and on the OLD plan (before flex) almost got to goal.

Now I have a husband, a full time job where i work anywhere from 8-10 hour days not counting my commute, a teen terror and two large cranky dogs. I am surrounded by friends who do not diet or watch what they eat and try to sabotague my efforts becaue it makes them feel better.

in the last 13 months i've lost 53 pounds. my husband eats the food i make
my kid eats what i make and no one complains.

i drink my water
i think about getting exercise (i admit i'm bad at this)
and i do my version of South Beach Diet.

once in a while i weigh and measure my food just to make sure i'm not suffering portion creep.

other than that once you learn the rules it's easy. and it's healthy and there's no reason the whole family can't live like this.

whole grains
fruits
veggies
healthy fats
lean proteins
3 meals and 3 snacks every day.

works for me. MIGHT work for you if you want it to.

see that's the key... you gotta want it bad enough.

Do you track your food intake at all? I eat a lot of fruit, not so much on veggies but I like salads and I drink a lot of water no soda and I learned to stop eating when I am full. Do you journal at all?
