hello hello

hello!
I'm ishy (pronounced eeesheee)
obviously, i am new.
and obviously i have a long way to go.
i've always been on the chubby side, since i was a kid. i have tried to lose weight multiple times in high school. I was a very active teenager and was part of various highschool group activities, my favorite being marching band. However, i never seemed to loose the weight.
in the last year and a half i gained almost 50 pounds. in the last year i have complained to my doctor, because it wasn't normal for me. i don't eat bad foods, i don't do mcdonalds or burger king, i don't like chips for snacks, i have one large meal a day...overall i don't carry the perfect diet, but it wasn't the worst either. i adjusted my diet, i stopped drinking soda and coffee, with only the occasional glass of tea. i stopped eating white bread and stick to wheat. i eat more fruits and vegetables than i have in my entire life. Still...i didn't loose the weight.
Finally when i went to my gynocologist, he diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. It took me almost 8 months to get diagnosed by an endrocronologist. Why? my PCP is an idiot.
Now, I'm finally on medication to control my thyroid, and hopefully it wil help me loose the weight. Which i need to do quickly and safely, because on top of being diagnosed with hypothyroid, i have also been diagnosed with Syndrome X. meaning, my body is not processing my insulin efficiently or effectivly. This can lead to diabetes. and i would like to avoid that seeing as i'm only 25 years old.
i stumbled across this site, and it's a relief, for me, to know that there are other people out there that are going thru similar struggles, and have before. i don't wish it on anyone, but it makes me feel a little less disgusted with myself.
anyway just wanted to introduce myself.
thanks!

:wel3fc: Ishy! :)

There are some absolutely fantastic people around here who will support you when you need support, celebrate with you - and kick your backside when it needs to be kicked as well. ;)

Are you following any particular diet, or has your doctor recommended you a plan to follow - I see you've already lost 3 lbs which is a great start.

Have an explore around here - there are lots of different groups, and I'm sure you'll find one you'll fit into... :)

thank you nicolen :)

all my doctor recommended was diet and exercise. She also wants to refer me to a dietitian which is fine with me, but she wants to see how i react to the meds first. I've been eating a lot healthier than i have in the past. lots of fruits and veggies, no fast food unless i have no choice and then it's like a grilled chicken something. no fries. no soda, no coffee, etc.
the exercise part is a bit more difficult. i have all of two or three hours a day in which i have to fit in all my errands and studying and exercise. Which is extremely hard, but i have to fit it in there somewhere.

thank you so much for your warm welcome. i appreciate it :)
