Maybe you should give up on "diets" completely. Just eat less, eat healthy and exercise more. Choose whole foods whenever possible, meaning unprocessed fresh foods like vegetables, fruits and lean meats. I definitely recommend a program like fitday.com to get you started because you can log all your food in and get an idea of not only how many calories you are consuming but how much fat, carbs, vitamines, etc. you're getting.
I tried Atkins last year and couldn't stick with it, too many rules, etc. and I KNEW I couldn't eat like that for the rest of my life. So I followed my own "no diet" plan, kept track of my calories, started exercising and went from 240 lbs. to 210.
