Another new person

Hi everyone! I am going to enlist the help of all you ladies to get my butt moving again. Like many of you, I go up and down with my weight. I have been slowly climbing up and I am ready to go down again....and stay there.

Still haven't decided how I am going to do it this time. Weight Watchers has always worked for me (most successfully two years ago 40lbs worth) but I don't know if I really want to go back this time. I need to exercise, that's my big problem. Anyone have good suggestions on how to get started? (I can't afford to join a gym right now).

Welcome! Here are some exercise ideas:

Taking a walk is really cheap and good for you. If it's cold where you live, go to a covered mall (but skip the food court! ;) ).

There are a ton of exercise videos/DVDs available, and sometimes you can get them used (e.g. through Amazon).

A membership at the YMCA doesn't cost very much per month, and you have access to everything there.

A set of low-poundage hand weights can do a lot for helping to build healthy muscle, and they can be had cheaply if you shop a bit.

Sometimes there are classes at the Y that anyone can sign up for, even if they aren't members. They have low-impact versions and senior versions where I live.

Welcome, Jay gave you great ideas for exercise. Also track your weight, food, exercise and you can journal also. Use a tool like fitday.com. It's free and easy. Or just buy a notebook and write everything down. Don't skip anything. Good luck. Hope to hear from you again.

New too!

Good luck to you. I too have lost, years ago, lost around 40 pounds on WW and after struggling with several diets I am going back to using Weight Watchers. I think it is the easiet one to follow especially if you have to cook for your family. Walking would be my suggestion for cardio excercise and a excercise ball and hand weights at home. cas
