Crazy taste buds - HELP! what happened?!?

So the weirdest thing started yesterday - my taste buds are on STEROIDS!!!

Sweet is sickeningly sweet. Tart makes me jump out of my skin. Bitter makes me want to ... well ...

Anyway, it's day 16 of my reboot, and I didn't have this problem last time. I did a quick search of the IP board and didn't find anything except "my tastes changed." You could say that again!!!

Has anyone experienced this? I knew to expect a change, but seriously, I didn't think it would make me practically gag on half my foods.:?:

I found the same exact thing. It's calmed down a little now at week 4 - but I can't do sweet stuff like I used to. It is just too overpowering.

This is a new one...I did Google 'sudden over sensitive taste buds' and found this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysgeusia

one cause is zinc deficiency

Imvho, we're not doctors, and if the symptoms continue you might want to mention it to your primary physician, just to see if there is any reason for concern.

That happened (the sweet part anyway) after I completed the The Whole 30. It also happened after my total knee replacement--possibly something with the pain killers or anesthesia.

My coach said that things definitely taste differently in ketosis. I was telling her when I rebooted that I used to be in love with the dark chocolate pudding, but when I started the reboot it just was not as good. She said our taste buds definitely change.

The dark choc pudding today is not the same that was offered a couple of years ago... not sure about your timeframe from the first IP experience, but that could be related to your tasting reaction to that one food..... just saying
