Morning everyone.

blue Awesome!!! I love Santana! I saw him about 20 years ago with my dad. Sooo amazing. My mom just told me she's been listening to Santana's Abraxas which I guess I left at home when I went to grad school. She's been really enjoying it. We are huge music fans in my family. DH and I are going to the Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, AL in less than 4 weeks. So excited. Which reminds me, I asked about the Protidiet oatmeal in case I need to do a Phase 1 or Phase 2 day at some point. I thought about doing that after vacation for a day to just reboot my healthy life...is that ridiculous though?

Linda Thank you!!! I ordered a box of Combat to try last night. Now I have to figure out the more affordable options for the future. DH is happy.

Gotta' run. Ugh. I had more to write. OK. Work and then I'll be back.

oneuh2 04-25-2016 09:45 PM

Hi guys!!!! What lively conversation is going here - this is the 3fc IPeep gang I have been missing!!! I agree that there is no comparison between this thread and FB - it is way too fragmented in those groups. You guys crack me up about the prevalence of bra photos.... :D :D

First off - I like Proto Diet oatmeal - much more affordable than IP and I use it to make muffins, pancakes, and sometimes eat it as a cereal. I microwave it for one minute rather than just using hot water tho. I just bought 3 canisters from Nashua last week.

My week 1 was just shy of a pound a day and I am about to drop back into One-Derland and I posted in MFP every day... I would say I am doing well and glad to be back on track.

I need to catch up with the bars you all are raving about - is Combat P1 compliant? Gotta check it out.

And I need to read back thru this thread to get up to date on what all of you have been up to.

Thanks so much for welcoming me to the thread - I will be here regularly for the great support you all share!!!

Destony 04-26-2016 06:02 AM

:(Cheryl, sorry they aren't P1 compliant....I don't even think I would consider them a super restricted...Anyone else care to chime in?

hysteria_625 04-26-2016 10:35 AM

Hi gang - it's that time of the quarter again and other than some mind-numbing Bubble Witch in the evenings, have been avoiding getting on the computer in the evenings

Plus, we've had spectacular weather and we've been taking advantage of it!

Combat bars - my $0.02...super restricted (new IP protocol) - going off of 'old' IP, not protocol at all...but things have changed. Again, I point to the new trail mix & while I lean on the conspiracy theory side of trying to slow weight loss down a bit for more profit, it is an unrestricted product with +200 calories - which puts everything we've learned about protocol on it's ear, kwim? Personally, when I reboot I plan on using them in combination with the Oatmega - but limited to 1 or 2 a week. Another good thing I've personally found about Combat is they don't seem to set off cravings the way Quest, even old formula Quest, did...

Liana - thank you for your thoughts on the nb's...fwiw, I am having an easier time with the nut butters this week since I finished the ones I had with added sugar - I bought the Fluffbutter (stevia) and have a jar of plain, nothing added cashew butter. So far, no 'attacks', or random spoons in jars

HIS - DH was complaining last night - he's run three times since injuring his achilles...and just recently restarted with a strength training program, but said a shirt he bought right before the 1/2 marathon barely fits now - this coming from someone who regularly get 25,000+ steps a day just because of his job! :yikes: I reminded him though that it did finally get washed and could have shrunk a bit in the dryer ;) That said, I think we are all going to suffer varying degrees of body dysmorphia, probably for the rest of our lives.
Personally, I am going 100% on clothing fit right now and staying off the scales (trying to cut down to once a week).
I weighed this morning and am hovering around *oh $h!t* weight and watching the belly fluff that comes and goes, depending on carb intake. I had a serving of banana bread last night (with whip cream :p ), so am a little puffier today than I was yesterday.
Oh - I ordered some BCAA powder (BPI) from bodybuilders.com - thank you for the heads up! Will go into details below

Blue - glad you got to see a true legend in concert :D

Sue - hope the move is going well

Cheryl - we are happy you are going to be joining in our chatty group...sad the 2014 group has fragmented so severely - you guys helped keep me rolling last year in P1

Candi - good luck at the polls today (if you decide to vote...)

Linda - about DB & the atrial fibrillation...just listened to a commercial this morning about it - really hope he goes and gets checked out. I hear you on the boat...you may have seen the picture I posted of my daughter & her girlfriend from a few years ago...I love boats, but they are so $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ you and Blue keep rocking maintenance!!!

Went on my first trail run last night and twisted my ankle  thankfully it doesn't seem to have done too much harm to the ankle itself, but did cause some issues with my back / hip flexors *blah* It was also 80+ yesterday and I sweated out a ton of cr@p lol DH ran with me...I didn't even know we had these nice trails so close to the house - he discovered them on a bike ride last week.
I've also started using BCAA's - ordered a canister of BPI last week and started using it Friday. I like what I've experienced so far

Also, the reboot is going to have to wait a couple extra days - we decided to register for another 1/2 marathon on June 4 :D

Destony 04-26-2016 12:19 PM

Beth COMPLETELY agree with you regarding the conspiracy theory=money grab!! Thanks for the mention about the NB's - I am going to try once it's all gone- can't stand the power it holds over me....I agree, lots of us- male and female suffer from it... :( I can't imagine cutting back to once a week- but you are right- clothes probably a REALLY good guide- DBF is a stubborn Italian- (my apologies to you who may be of that descent) Sorry about the ankle- and I hope that it's okay-trails sound like heaven...Looking forward to your feedback on the BCAA's-gotta fly - take care!!

oneuh2 04-26-2016 10:09 PM

Howdy everyone - thanks for the clarity re the Combat bars - I thought I had looked at them before and decided they were definite no no's.... fascinating thought about the slow loss strategy IP corporate may be pursuing.... I do know there are a lot of new food items since my clinic closed. But with recipes I am happy with the basics.

Destony - thanks for the generous PM's - it's great to connect but please don't feel compelled to write there and shortchange the bigger group here on the threads! You are always at the heart of good conversation over here, and no one wants to miss you cause you needed to get out the door to work!!!

Beth - sorry you are dealing with injury - you runners love it, and anything that interferes can really be aggravating. I have sciatic pain that has flared up and the most intense plantar fasciitis I have every had, and just in the right foot. I hobble out of bed in the morning lately, until I have moved around enough to be not so stiff and to get past the pain. I am seeing a PT and getting some therapeutic massage to work on it. All this to say I have not been dancing - caregiving prevented me from going to the studio since October, and now I am feeling so porky that I don't want anyone to see how I have regained so much weight.

But - I need to suck it up and just go - moving is better than sitting here surfing the net... so I hope to get enough flexibility in my joints to get back to it soon. Will keep you all posted.

Glad to have 3FC to come to daily and check in - it means a lot - thanks you guys!!

canadjineh 04-27-2016 03:25 AM

Hahaha, Destony... another stubborn Italian here (northern... near Venezia) :D. !My DH knows what you mean, lol, and totally agrees!
BTW, Boat incidents aren't all bad, you should watch the old movie 'Overboard' with Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell.
:corn: :lol3:

Cheese was always my thing even when I was little. My mom would say, 'be careful, it will bind you up' but it never has (I know, TMI). Of course, being Italian and growing up with yummy stuff like homemade salami and GOOD cheeses for breakfast, there we go, eh?

Gosh, I'm sorry about the sciatic- I had a problem with that about 20 years ago- I was in retail, a little grocery store in town that I managed, and unloading the tractor trailer of the stock on a weekly basis- did a number - it's since much better, but it was pretty bad there for a while. The foot pain, DBF deals with that - I had a touch, but much better now- he even tried putting a sock on and wrapping it in duct tape, also sleeping with one of his Teva's on...not fun - (for anyone) I hope that you will be feeling up to dancing sooner rather than later. This is your journey, no one elses and pay no mind to them seeing you and whatever weight you have put on. I would hope that many would understand what you've been through and be there to support you and cheer you on.

:D - yes, and sometimes, stubborn doesn't even scratch the surface...hahaha
Overboard- we love that movie! So fun to watch :) As for the cheese- when I was a kid- I used to love getting home from school, microwaving a couple of slices of Muenster on a plate, put some ketchup on the side and it was my snack...I agree- never had a problem with the binding issue- now , I guess I am a bit more sensitive. I tried fresh Mozzerella from a place in the Bronx a couple of years ago when we went in to the city to visit some of his cousins...O..M..G.... the heavens opened and angels sang!!! <-serious!!!
Plugging along, got a yoga class in yesterday. Thank goodness because (tis the season) it was the day from **** at work. My newly hired assisitant- having a hard time catching on (my boss has no patience for that-which transfers to me) so I get stressed out, try to keep cool, manage and build with her, everyone wants there services done NOW...can't do it- and I hate saying no, what I really hate is the fact I can't make them happy - so, since the weather was crummy and all the trucks were back I asked if I could leave right at 4 to make the 415 Yoga class. Took me the entire class to "unwind" . Score for me though, I ran to one of the local pharmacy chains (Rite-Aid) for some allergy meds and wandered around and found all the Denise Austin fitness stuff was 75% off!! Need it or not, who am I to pass up a good deal??? So, I picked up a yoga block, one of those resistance bands and a 4 lb. ball. Paid about 15 bucks for the whole lot! Well, today is my dads 81st birthday. I hope that I can have his energy, ability, and mind at that age- still out mowing lawns, and doing "his thing" just a little slower than the old days. He is one of the (more so in the old days when the town was really all local, minus the influx of people who have moved to the Cape) town "characters" the go to guy- a legend if you will. (Not bragging, that really is just the way it is-) "Your his daughter?? What was it like growing up- it must have been awesome" blah blah blah.....:dizzy: Wouldn't trade him for the world! (Even with all of our disfunction) Well, it's time- I wish you all a BEAUTIFUL day filled with all that makes and keeps you strong!!!!

Count me in as another Italian…well, actually, only born there (long story), but since I love all things Italian I am happy to lay claim.

Cheryl, so glad you’re joining our little group, we’re here to help you on this part of your journey, and we’re looking forward to learning from your experiences as well. So sorry to hear you haven’t been able to get back to dancing, I hope you can soon, as I recall from some of your earlier posts, you get so much joy from it.

I just have to complain about the weather…last week I put away my winter coats, washed all my scarves and mittens…foolish, foolish, foolish…had to go out of town yesterday morning, and I knew I’d have to be outside for a good chunk of time… you guessed it -- wore a winter jacket, mittens scarf…same this morning, except a few degrees colder. Ok, I know, compared to what’s happening in other places, like Texas, this seems trivial, but c’mon, I am so ready for some warm days. :sunny:

I had a strange, scary dream last night, just before I woke up. I was in some big office building, and some guy kept bringing in cakes, you know the kind with the sweet thick icing and colored flowers, leaving them in all the offices … and I kept going from office to office to get a piece – I don’t think I ever did in the dream :( … Wonder if it has any meaning?? But you know how when you first wake up from a really vivid dream, you’re not sure for a minute if it was real? Woke up scared, and weighed myself, strangely enough I was down a lb from yesterday :D (still in my 132-133 range).

Finally got my taxes done yesterday though (and even a few days early!!) Refunds for both DH and me this year!!

Anyway, nothing else much new here. Lots of small jobs to get done today, they just seem to accumulate and today is rainy and cold so a good day to get them looked after.

MiWi 04-28-2016 01:52 PM

I'm back briefly. I've been reading and not writing. So we got the Combat bars and I like them but DH didn't. He said he liked Quest better and I said they don't make them the same way, and he said he wanted to try different things. Ugh. Phase 4 is in less than 2 days.

Linda Happy Birthday to your dad! He sounds like an awesome guy. Also glad you got in a yoga class. I LOVE yoga.

blue I have food nightmares too. It's really like a trauma response. Our bodies need to warn us about food danger. Oh no! Glad you are in the good weight range. Awesome about the tax returns.

Cheryl Glad you are back. Hope you made it to the dance studio. It's hard to go back after a break though. I still haven't figured out a good work out plan for Phase 4. Eek.

Beth Weather is a bit cool and icky in the DMV. How are you handling it? I did vote on Tuesday...not like it was much fun. But I did my civic duty so that's that. Awesome that you are doing another race. I wish I could find an exercise to get passionate about. *sigh*

Sue How's life in the new house?

HIS How is everything? How's the reboot?

Wish me luck this weekend! Phase 4 here I come!

I join in on the bandwagon about the cold weather....yesterday morning, it was just above freezing when I went outside for my shower....brrrr....tired of winter clothes, coats and all! I agree though, when I look at wheat others are experiencing...I will shut my pie hole and be glad that I am only bit^&*ng about the cold....
When I first stopeed drinking some....Oh my goodness, I just realized that Saturday will be 11 years....anyhow...and on a rare occasion still, I will dream that I was drinking, and wake up feeling so angry and almost hungover...like I really really have to shake myself awake to realize whether or not it was real. So, the cake thing, makes perfect sense to me- Others have told me in "coffee time" that they experienced the same thing with the drunk dreams.
Congrats on getting your taxes done early and moreso on the refunds!!! Happy dance!!!!!

Glad you got to try the Combat bars- which flavors did you get? The Victory bar is ok too- but kind of "grainy" i guess- not sure how to describe it.
WISHING YOU A MOUNTAIN OF GOOD LUCK !!!!!! Remember....as I have said - don't overthink it- I did and I was a mess because of it. Besides, we're all here to help and answer your questions.
Hope everyone is doing great- office is quiet for a minute and like Pavlov's dog- I needed a reward and this is it!

Hi all,

Just a quick note as we drive back to our old house. Moving day today, the movers filled the truck, but we left some furniture in the house to stage it. Lots of little stuff left to move and then unpacking too. Finished my 2 weeks of p2, lost 3.4 pounds. I did my first and last p3 breakfast this morning. I had 2 eggs, mixed fruit cup, toast with a little p and milk. First respose from dh, that looks li I ever a lot, shouldn't you just have eggs. I say last because my clinic does ideal complete and wants me to have for breakfast, so it is that plus a carb and fat. I have gotten used to shakes for breakfast so it might be fine. I got the strawberry flavor.

Almost home, got to go.

Just my 2 cents, Sue, but the Ideal Complete is a waste of money. Lots of us successful maintainers never used the stuff. Technically it was only for random times when you are in a big hurry or don't have access to kitchen facilities. Really, they just want a bit more of your wallet. Ask them to show you why it is better than learning how to prepare a proper breakfast....
;) Liana

smdawheel 04-28-2016 10:41 PM

Liana, in the phase 3 materials I received there was a newer study referenced as to the reason that ip now requires a meal replacement drink. I will post the study info later. I might like it for during the week, I only purchased one box, so if I hate it I can let her know next week. She has never tried the strawberry, but thought vanilla was a bit sweet.

Howdy everyone!

Busy day for me today - work this morning - finished creating an Excel workbook that involved a lot changes to a set of data... all fairly small print on my little screen - zoom it to read and half the data shifts to the right off the display.... labor intensive morning at the computer. Then off to see the orthopedist who commiserated with me regarding my husband's passing - I had to cry - could not keep from doing it. Very disconcerting, yet I guess it's necessary.

Then off to the integrated wellness center where I have PT but today I had deep tissue massage - my calf muscles are so tight that the right one along with my Achilles tendon has cause plantar fasciitis in my right foot... the right one has been working hard to compensate for the sciatic pain in my left leg, it seem. When I left there, the muscles that had been blobs of cement lumps of tension were released and softened up. I am encouraged to know that with treatment this is going to get better and I am going to get back to dancing.

I confess that I am hungry, but I am not sure if it is emotional hunger or if it is reaction to less quantity of food than I have been having... likely it's emotional. I may have a little bump in the road here - had an extra packet, but of course RESTRICTED!! But I am not giving up. Fresh start tomorrow.

MiWi is right - it was gray and rainy in the DC metro area today - and will be through Sunday - so much for working on the yard this weekend - it will be the middle of next week before things are dry enough to even cut the grass. Mainly I don't like the cold damp temps though. We have had some spectacular Spring days and I am happy to live without jackets these days.

I have lots to do before Monday - gotta drive to Delaware with stuff for the accountant - I may be a bit light in presence here for the next few days, but I'll try to at least poke my nose in the door.

I deleted my old ticker and recreated a new one - hopefully my signature is able to be edited going forward now....

ta ta for now,
cheryl

hysteria_625 04-29-2016 10:54 AM

Yup - weather in the DMV went from glorious to s*ck *ugh* This coming from the lady who ran in the middle of January when it was 5 degrees - go figure ;) My body is just ready for some sun / Vitamin D / warmth

Cheryl - That is the crux of my DH's running injury (Achilles) - it started with tight calves. Sounds like the deep tissue massage helped - not sure how you feel about chiropractic but I've been seeing Dr. Anne Sorrentino for a little over a year now - started when, what I thought was my sciatic, acted up and locked my lower back last year...only to find out (thanks to Dr. Sorrentino) that all along, it's been my hips and gluts!
She is now located in Tyson's, off Rt. 7 near the Tesla dealership: http://www.drannesorrentino.com/
I highly, HIGHLY recommend her, if you're open to these types of treatment. DH, who has been adverse to ANY type of "treatment" went yesterday and was impressed. This coming from someone who really dislikes being touch, kwim? I can't even massage him.

Blue - so jealous...really sounds like you got maintenance in the bag - you go with your bad-self ;) sorry about the weather & totally empathize! Glad you got your taxes done :) I always feel like I just had a bad tooth pulled once they are done

Sue - the P3 meal replacements are really very new & I am not sure how accurate or unbiased the information given to you by an IP coach is going to be - especially if its a study done by IP, kwim?
I am sure for some it is a good transition...but *getting on soap box* - many of us are on P1 for 12 weeks or more (almost 40 weeks for me). P3 is, imvho, the most important stage leading to maintenance and the drinks seem like a complete cop-out to me.
1. Its a $$$$$ grab - any of the pre-made IP products are 2 - 3 times more expensive than the others
2. It lessens the amount of time coaches have to spend with clients preparing them for P3 - there is your protein source, now just add a fruit, fat, and grain...easy-peasy
What good does this really do?
I think what many of us found is taking the time in P3 to work on the breakfast macros and eating whole foods helped us with the transition to P4 & beyond. If it works for you though, yay :D

Candi - I know it seems sacrilegious to not like Combat  but my DH only tolerates the Chocolate PB flavored Combat bars - found out he really only likes the Quest Cookies and Cream protein bars

Linda - fwiw, the one Victory bar I tried - I believe peanut butter something - went in the trash after one bite. I seriously thought it tasted & had the texture of playdoh...and yes, I ate some in my youth :p at least the weather should put people off their landscaping plans for a bit ;)

This weather needs to break and I believe it's next Tuesday before we see the sun again. Luckily we got out this past weekend and got a chunk of the yard work done - but still need to trim the shrubs, clean up the front flower beds, spread mulch, and get the garden ready.
I can't believe DH is doing the garden again this year...I said we should till it up, add some really rich top soil and let it rest for a season...the farmers market is right up the street...but he is insistent *shrug*
Trying something a little different with my training for the June 13.1 - the app I've been using encourages a run/walk (4 min / 1 min) - I ignored it training up to the RnR 13.1 and just ran...more research though showed run/walk can be just as effective and so I started this week. We'll see - so far it's only been on the treadmill. Tomorrow will be the first outdoor test.

canadjineh 04-29-2016 12:20 PM

Hys has it right, Sue... What is the use of a protein source given to you by IP when you still have to add fruit, grain, & fat? We already know how to pick a 'real' protein from P2 lunches and dinners experience. P3 gives us that chance to learn how to plan meals properly for P4 (maintenance).

BTW, hys... hope your run/walk goes well. It is d*mn frustrating when illness or injury holds us back from our regular exercise. I have been going through that lately too, missing my aquacize/deep water run classes because I'm just too exhausted these days.

Blue... lucky gal getting taxes back! I will get back about $400 but DH must pay almost $5600 since he doesn't 'loan' the government any money during the year. He moaned and whined but I had to remind him that most people have taxes taken off the top of their pay at each cheque. Since he runs his own business, it's a smart idea for him to stick some away in a business savings account at each deposit, then he will already have a large lump sum ready for tax time. Anyhow we are pulling it from different savings accounts (and waiting on large accounts receivable) so no big worries actually.

blueskiesahead 04-29-2016 12:57 PM

Cheryl glad to hear the tissue massage has given you some relief . Here’s hoping you’ll be getting back to the dancing soon! :dancer:
Hungry days, I had lots of them, I think we all did, don’t forget all the tricks to get past it – hot tea, cucumber slices, egg whites were my go-to’s and quite often helped.

Candi – YAY!!! P4!! You maintainer, you!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Sue, hope your move went off without a hitch yesterday. You’ve been so amazingly organized, I’m sure it did!
Nice loss on P2!!
I have to agree about the IP Complete, there may be studies that show the benefits, but like Liana and Beth, I have to agree that the P3 real food breakfasts and the work I did to learn what they should be was so beneficial, to me at least, for ongoing success in maintenance. Maybe the packet will make P3 easier, but once you get to P4, let’s face it, you’re going to have to learn how to eat breakfast anyway.
However, since you have some, give them a try, you may like using them, and in any case your assessment may well help the next people going into P3

Beth– hope the adjustment in training gives you good results in the race…although it seems every race, you come back and say you’ve got a new personal best. :) The running seems to come so naturally to you. I think there’s always been a runner inside you just waiting to be set free. :running:

Liana – yeah, taxes, ugh!!! big PITA! but have to say my “refund” isn’t exactly that – I have my own small business too (really small, but it does generate some income)…so I pay some tax by installments, and some of that refund is just getting some of it back. Better than having to pay though. ;)

We have a casino here in town, though in the more than 10 years we’ve lived here, only been there 2 or 3 times. But we were at a home show last month, and they were giving out vouchers, so this morning we decided to go over for breakfast, and use up our $40 in vouchers in a wild hour of gambling. :DDidn’t win of course, though DH came out with $10, which paid for breakfast, so a break even. We had a few other errands in town, got some garden soil, some other stuff, so the morning is pretty much gone.
Have lots to do inside this morning, and more rain on the way today, so a good day for that.

Happy Friday, all, and hope today is the start of a great weekend!

Quick post while I ride from one house to another. First my folks are awesome, helping me with the houses. Dad had to trim the cabinet above the fridge so it would fit. Mom helped me unpack all day yesterday.

Well I decided since I had time I would do a traditional p3 breakfast today. 1 had 1 slice Dave's killer bread 120 cal, 22 carbs total, 2 gm fat 5 gm protein , 2 eggs 140 kcal, 0 carb, 10gm fat, 12 gm protein, 1 cup raspberry 12 gm carb, 1 gm protein, aND 6Oz of fat free Greek yogurt 6.8 gm carbs and 17.2 gm of protein. I think it was 410 cal. Evaluation please. I will likely mix it up with both shake and reg. P3 breakfast. Today's was great, sure looked like a lot of food.

Better than having to pay though. ;)

Blue move went ok, took longer than expected and the dropped the refrigerator that we were moving from the new house to the old...thankfully it seems to be working. The strawberry complete was ok, if I mix for work I am going to add fruit and yogurt, but if that is the fat do I need to get the regular?

Sounds like you had a nice morning at the casino. I am not much of a gambler, but on the last cruise I was going to donate 10 bucks on the penny slots, I quit when I was up 100, I played a little more and think I ended up loosing 20 of it later in cruise.

BTW, hys... hope your run/walk goes well.

Liana

Liana

Liana, thanks for your thoughts on the complete. I only bought 1 box, and will likely spread it out over the 2 weeks. I appreciate your thoughts on using the p3 time as a springboard into p4.

I am guessing that in Canada you do individual tax returns, I file jointly with DH. We started renting out the house DH had before we got married, that has reduced our taxes and I aM still trying to get the amount corrected so we don't loan the government money. Dh is spending the refund on a garden tractor/lawn mower today.

Hi everyone and happy May Day and Greek Easter! Hoping that everyone is having a nice weekend-
Cheryl- hope that you are hanging in there! Funny that you mentioned the emotional hunger question. I asked myself the same question last week several times. With work being as crazy as it is- am I hungry or want to satisfy an emotional reaction caused by stress? Honestly, I think it was stress for me. I hope the PT is helping you! We want to hear your back at it dancing your socks off! :)
Beth, we're getting into the bucket-o-s*@k weather now.... Grateful that T got the bottom of the boat sanded yesterday. We are so far behind schedule.... April was a total miss with any work on her....I need my happy place floating...lol. Tell me, what is the app you are using for running? I'm using the C25K- very loosely- I think that I am only ever going to be mostly a "wogger" I find that if I do jog for any length of time, my knee really gets angry...so, I think I'll just resign myself to that and not push myself over the edge. I'm doing a 5k on the 19th -so I'll mostly walk. I'm okay with that- Love the new FB pics- looks like it was an awesome day :)
Liana, I completely agree, the new products from IP are nothing more that money grabs. I'm really glad that they didn't unveil a lot of it while I was still in P1.
Blue- sounds like it was a fun morning. I haven't been to the casinos is about 8 years. Mom, Aunt and girlfriend used to make a yearly trek down to one in CT. To celebrate my mom's birthday on April Foll's day. Even she said that she doesn't miss going really. I mean in the sense that it doesn't seem like anyone wins anymore- Casino's are losing money - attendance is down, so everything now seems to be leaning in their favor.... But we used to have a great day. Never won big-though mom used to come home a couple hundred richer. Me- my goal was to make it back down to the lobby with enough money in my pocket to buy a Pepsi for the bus ride home....lol
Sue, I'm glad that overall the move seems to be working out ok. Keeping my fingers crossed that the fridge keeps running. Glad you had a minute to check in. Your breakfast looked good to me. Maybe add in a fat? I always have a little nut butter, some have cheese....
Well, last night, I had an honest to goodness splurge. I went over my calories (according to MFP) a little less that 100- but over nonetheless. I knew that I would likely go overboard for dinner, so I tried (meh- halfheartedly) keeping the day in check - another words- no snacks- (usually some fruit, a combat bar and of course....NB) So I had about 6 oz of Delmonico (Rib eye) steak, 1/2 a sweet potato-ok, not the end of the world, nor a splurge- however....lol- I had picked up desert (we had friends in fr dinner) at Whole Foods- their bakery counter has all kinds of beautiful things- couldn't decide what to get so they offer all their single pastries in a bakers dozen- so I figured there.you.go! Anyhow- of course I had a bite of what T was having- and we know how he loves his sweets so I wasn't lacking for things to try. They make a flourless chocolate cake (which is to die for btw, and we used to get it for my birthday and his) I got 3 of those in the mix- some fruit tarts, cheese cakes, petite fours, Italian cake balls, - I had a beautiful assortment. Anyhow- guests had to leave earlier than expected because her kidney stone decided to move, poor thing wound up in the E/R) I ended up eating one of the flourless chocolate cakes- on top of the bites of things I had of his. O.M.G.!!! Worth every delicious bite. I had just joked with someone that what tends to keep me from splurging is the thought of not getting my big beautiful reakfast the next mornng - I'm totally okay with that today-lol- maybe the amount of fat I ingested yesterday still has me full this morning. The thought of a big breakfast almost made me wince...lol- Good thing my body must take 2 days to react and tomorrow is a NSD - thins morning I was 125.2- down .2 from yesterday- Hopefully Wednesday when I get on, it's in the 125's because I fully expect tomorrow or Tuesdat to hit 127 and I don't want to see that- Anyhow, not sure if it's completely the right choice, but I made myself a shake with Quest vanilla powder and threw in about 1/3 to a half cup of strawberries. I think for lunch I'll do IP rotini and summer squash- like the "old days" *snicker* tonight I'll go more "normal" finish up my steak and either have another half a sweet potato or not, better choice would be not and have a veggie- I know this, but we have a ton of s/p leftover. He nukes them to soften, then cuts them in half lengthwise, oil, salt and garlic powder then finishes them on the charcoal grill. Amazing....I have found during the week as I looked back- especially over the past 2 weeks, ( I think I am repeating myself but not sure) whether intentional or not, I have kept my carb % easily under the 40% - my fat and protein are def over 30%- fat - not by a lot-3-4% average- it seems to be working. Yesterday marked 3 months in maintenance for me. I asked my coach what she had me weighing on my start date and compared it to yestrday morning, I was a pound less yesterday. So I'd say - my terror over failing the program is paying off so far-*tongue in cheek as I say that* I mentioned that I probably had a heavier shirt on 3 months ago. In all seriousness. I couldn't do it without you all to turn to- to share my happy dances with and to share my scary moments with. I thank you all for that!!! We went to whole foods Friday night and got real nut buters- I am hopeful that I can lay the beast to rest with these - since there isn't the added sugars that the other ones I have had do. I think that maybe, for the almond butter I may add a dash of vanilla extract,,,I just really love vanilla almond butter- what can I say?? Alright, enough babbling from me. Time to get up and get the day goign. I do love my weekends- though I'm up almost as early, I love coffee in bed and catching up with everything - Have a great day everyone!!!!!

oneuh2 05-01-2016 08:44 AM

Destony - your babble encourages me! I long to be where you are someday before too long....

I am facing a big emotional challenge tomorrow. Somehow the bank figured out that my husband passed away and he had a home equity loan on a house we have in SC that we had planned to retire to... Don't know why the bank gave th loan in one name - the house is in both our names on the deed. But now I am afraid they will call it for immediate repayment and it is a 6 digit amount. I do not have that money to give the bank. The house has been up for sale for a year - before the bank notified me that they kno of my husband's death, I already had plans of reducing the price this week to get some kind of movement on the sale.
Gotta cross fingers that the bank will let me continue to pay monthly on the loan until the house sells, but I am very fearful and depressed - wondering what else can go wrong for me.

All I can do is to keep taking care of loose ends and hope that I can get some human officials to work with who have enough heart to allow me just a bit of flexibility for a few months until I get everything under control. And tomorrow I need to find an attorney.

Meanwhile the challenge is to not turn to food to get thru this.

Destony 05-01-2016 09:15 AM

Cheryl- in my past life, I was a banker-how he was able to secure a loan in only his name when the home is in both of your names is beyond me. I did several HELOC's for one of the title holders, BUT the other had to sign off in my presence that they understood that in the event of default, they would be responsible. So, that being said, it would be my understanding that as long as you also own the house, and the loan is current with respect to repayment, you should be fine. When the house sells, they get their money and it's all set- providing you sell the house for more than is owed. (Obviously, I probably didn't need to say that-) They shouldn't have cause to recall the note. If it's a line of credit, they would suspend any further draw on the funds, but if it's a loan, it would have been a one time disbursement of the funds, with monthly repayment schedule -just like your mortgage. I hope that everything works out. I don't need to tell you that foods won't solve it, in fact it will likely compound the stress when you beat yourself up over it. (That's what used to happen to me- but food wasn't the subject of my desires) Sending you positive thoughts, energy and vibes!! It's temporary and you WILL get through this- you are a strong woman- and though we are only connected by screens- we got ya- stay strong!!!!

oneuh2 05-01-2016 09:37 AM

Destony - thanks for talking me off the ledge - I cannot recall signing something to ok this, but I may have done so. Our plans were different when we bought the house in 2005... And it is a HELOC. We have not drawn against it since 2012 and payments exceed the amount owed, slowly reducing principal faster. I just hope the bank does not call it in for full payment - so many times the bank says the latest regulations require them to do things that are inflexible robotic actions that really make no sense. If they do - I will have to give them the house through foreclosure. No other choice.

But you are right about eating he stress - it does not work. So I am coming here for stress therapy and continuing to take care of stuff my husband was unable to complete before he died. Hopefully by June I will be out from under the burdens and I know that when that happens I will feel infinitely lighter, no matter what the scale reads!

smdawheel 05-01-2016 09:46 AM

Cheryl, many thoughts coming your way to support you. I know it is easier said than done, but worry does not help. It may be best to reach out to them first thing on Monday versus waiting /fearing a call.

Sue

oneuh2 05-01-2016 10:23 AM

Yes Sue - I will call story in SC first, then BofA. Don't want to worry hard about something that is still just in my head. Thanks for the good vibes!

Today while doing stuff that needs doing - paperwork and food prep - I am listening to Super Soul Sunday on Oprah's network - positive conversations that are calming and reassuring.

I know that I can eat "regular" foods now and not let them take over my life. I also know what it takes to stay below my "scream weight"! I have not met my goal weight by any stretch but I am still wearing size 10/12, down from the 24/26 I was in when I started this journey. My new life as a divorced almost 56 year old is pretty sweet. I reconnected with someone I grew up with and we are living life as full time RVers, workkamping 2 days a week to cover the cost of a full hook up site in Alpine TX, near Big Bend National Park, an area I always dreamed of living in and now am blessed to actually be here! I have not given up on that 135lb goal weight but it feels great to be able to eat pretty much what I want and still maintain. I'll kick it back into Protocol gear soon and continue towards that goal. I think I needed to give myself a bit of a break. I hope all is going well for everyone and I'll see you around the boards (my internet is sketchy so it may be another little while again...)

So glad to see your check in! That's a handsome guy in your profile pic! Your new path in life sounds fun and full of happiness! Pls check in periodically and when you get back OP to go for the goal again, be sure to post whenever you can - you are such an inspiration and your humor is such a gift to all of us!
I hope you are dancing some Texas Two Step and enjoying that slim new body!

Glad the move went well, sorry to hear about the fridge, hope it survived!

Linda, I think the macros were mentioned before, I know my fat gms are always in the red, my carbs are almost always low. I have mine set for 40-30-30, I've seen some FB peeps mention 35-35-30. I don't think I'll reset mine now, but maybe if I'm still doing the same in a month, I'll change the % on MFP

Cheryl - that's a scary situation about the house, and more stress and worry you don't need right now; I hope and trust the bank will treat you fairly. Don't forget, if you start churning things over in your mind, come here and let us hold your hand.

I realized yesterday that I started this journey one year ago. Funny, it doesn't seem like a whole year. But I'm so glad I made the decision and followed through, my life has been so much better during the journey, I have learned a lot, that's for sure, and I've made some good friends along the way  and certainly the way I feel has been worth every day of it!

Did I ever mention, I was going to reorganize my closet once I had finished the diet? Redo the shelves and cubbies, etc...I got in touch with the guy that has done a lot of the renos and carpentry in my house, he's been booked solid this spring; was talking to him this week, and he's go a couple of free days, so he's going to try to get it done this week...YAY!!! ;) Of course that means i have to empty the whole thing out, so he can work in the closet. I am a happy woman

Vacation time for me next week, we're heading off to Virginia for a week.
Hey Beth, I think that's your neck of the woods, maybe you could put in a good wood with the weather people there, give us some warm sunshine ;)
Looking forward to getting away, the last few weeks have been busy. I have to look through clothes this aft, it's been so cool here we haven't had any warm days and I'm still wearing woolies, haven't really warm spring/summer-y stuff since we were in Florida, so I don't know what fits.

Thanks for the support! I have a call with the atty on Wednesday - I am over the upset about it. Just have to do what I can do and keep moving forward. Might have an offer on the house that is collateral on that loan - if I can get a sale to happen, that will make the whole thing moot anyway.

Meanwhile... I am in northern Virginia too - this evening we have had heavy thunderstorms, HAIL the size of golf balls, and a lot of rain... hopefully it is all getting out of the way before you get to Virginia! Hi Everyone! Work is super busy. I will write more later. Phase 4 is OK. I gained what I guess is some water retention, and it's freaking me out a bit. I don't like. I haven't figured out what to eat at work anymore. I am kinda' lost. Anyway wishing everyone well. Talk to you soon.

hysteria_625 05-03-2016 09:30 PM

Candi - my go-to is either chicken thigh with some avocado or I still make a pork tenderloin with rutabaga :)

Linda - there is a post dedicated to that NYT article - I've been commenting over there but yah - scared the crapadoodle out of me - BUT, as I noted on the other thread, there is a sentence or two about contestants eating an entire bag of chips, or going back to drinking.
I totally empathize with wanting to go back to "real life" but unfortunately, 'real life eating' is what got most of us fat in the first place. Has to be a lifestyle change - but I also don't advocate TBL's methods. 8 hours of exercise is completely not sustainable IRL (unless you work at a gym / trainer / Shaun T lol) - great for sh!tty reality tv, not so good for the contestants.

Cheryl - you are still dealing with a lot! Be gentle with yourself dear

I will try to get caught up tomorrow. Works been a *****kitty and I've just been too tired in the evenings to mess with the computer.

Cheryl - We're going to Williamsburg, so we won't be near DC this time. But thanks, it would be such fun to meet up and get to know you IRL, spending an afternoon drinking coffee and talking about life and diet and such. Actually, we like to stop off in Washington for a few days whenever our travels take us to that area, so much to see in DC and never enough time, but this time it's not doable, we're booked Sunday-Friday, and we have to get back for Saturday for a family thing, and it's about a 12-hour drive from here. So keep the offer open for another time :D

I saw your post in the other thread about doing squats - I can relate, once the weight was gone, what little bum I have is pretty droopy, and a few muscles there would definitely improve it. Not that anyone is out there looking at this old woman's backside :D --- but it would make pants fit better :)

Candi - hope your schedule lets up a bit, we'd love to hear about how P4 is going for you. For lunches, I find most days I will have pureed veg soup ( I like roasted cauliflower or asparagus best) with some cut up chicken in it, or a salad with lower carb veggies, full fat dressing, and some chicken or tuna or hb-eggs or leftover meat from last night's supper.

That article on weight gain :yikes: scared the poop out of me for a minute, till I started thinking about it. I read some of the comments on the other thread, and have to agree with a lot of them, these people aren't typical.
Linda - thanks for the link to that blog - she makes a lot of sense. I hope it's OK to quote:
a significant decrease in carbohydrate consumption during weight maintenance makes the difference. Weight gain and hunger are modulated by a number of factors, but insulin---the hormone that pours forth in response to carbohydrate---is a major player. Keeping insulin at bay with a lower carb diet depresses hunger and fat storage

Isn't this what IP is saying?

However, I know that reading a lot of stories here, there have been quite a few people who have lost, and then regained. For many reasons, and not just the "inevitable gain" the article predicts. Many have come back here to reboot and continue posting. But I suspect there are also many who have reached maintenance and been successful in keeping the weight off, and no longer feel the need to post here. It would be interesting to hear from them.
Anyway, I know for me, what makes sense is to keep my carbs under control.

Well, on to less serious things....Got my closet finished yesterday, so nice to have it done. And less $$ than I had expected, since he built it to fit. I had looked at some of those closet systems, but my space is an odd shape...But OMG!! it is an eye opener emptying it all out, I had a lot of clothes in there  Of course, I'm pretty sure at least half of it either doesn't fit or maybe I don't like it so much now. My plan is to try everything on and only put back what I really like and what fits!! That's going to take a bit of time...Timing sucks though, because we're leaving on Saturday morning, today we're off to Niagara falls for the day. Anyway, it's piled up in the guestroom, so it's mostly out of the way, but it'll be waiting for me when we get back from VA.

Saw my coach yesterday, weight was the same (well, down .4 from last time, 2 weeks ago). She suggested just going once a month, which I think is OK. Not sure how long to keep doing that, but I'll probably continue for the rest of the year, some accountability is good, I think.

Sounds like this is a busy time for everyone, take care, the week is half over!!

MiWi 05-05-2016 09:36 AM

blue Yay for the closet!!! You are so right about having an eye-opener when looking at old clothes, but it's good to go through the ritual of getting rid of the old stuff. How was Niagara Falls? I haven't been in twenty years. My DH is from Buffalo/Rochester and he's wanted to go back up that way for a visit and we could take the kids to Niagara. Cool to be able to go for the day.

Cheryl and Beth DMV power! That's it. It's been pretty crappy around here weather-wise, so had to pep us up.

Sue How is Phase 3?

Sooo I am feeling OK about Phase 4. I lost most of the weight I gained over the weekend. I forgot I ate Chinese, which is sooo salty. So I am feeling good like I must have been doing OK this week. For a person who has trouble with eating "right" I am always going to have to THINK about what I am eating, like I am always on a diet, and this diet is for life and I need to get over myself if I want to keep the weight off in the long run. Also, my life sucks for exercise. What the heck can I do? I am away from home 12 hours a day. 6:30a to 6:30p. When I get home, I have to spend some time with my kids, eat dinner, do random chores (laundry, clean kitty litter, etc.) and by that time I am so exhausted, I can't think or move. So what the heck? I feel doomed in the exercise department.

Linda - again, I put in my $0.02 over on the other thread, but while I completely agree that the NYT article is very negative, and most of the contestants have maintained some of their weight loss, imvho, I think the bigger picture that the article is trying to encompass has to do with yo-yo or extreme dieting and the negative effects it can have on ones hormonal system. That's what scared me...not the "dieting for life" aspect of it - I am trying coming to terms with this little *factoid* and learning day to day how to fight the "IDGAF" feelings that creep in, especially during times of stress or extreme exhaustion.

Blue - LOVE Colonial Williamsburg :) really hope y'all get some decent weather - DC is looking ok for the weekend, but that's 2.5 hours south/east of us.
Agreed - and for me, it is more sugar than complex carbs

Candi - oh gosh, rain, rain, go away...I know we were running a rain deficit but 55 - 60, all week...dreary and misty - blah!
I would rather it be 75 - 80, sunny most of the day, and getting T-storms in the evenings, kwim?
Otoh, those storms the other night were something else! Thank the higher powers the hail storm missed us by about 5 miles - saw some pictures in the local paper of the damage just north of us :( golf ball sized!
Ouch, but I empathize - my day is generally 6a (hitting the roads at 6:45)- 6p...but I know I am VERY fortunate that I have a job with a gym on site, and I don't deal with clients or customers all day, so my lunch hour can be gym time. Also, my youngest is 11 and like tonight, she has 2.5 hours of dance practice, so I'll be hitting the roads for an hour of running while I wait on her - then have dinner in the car. IMVHO, it is a LOT easier with older kids to create a routine...but would it be possible to dedicate an hour to yourself 3 days a week - start small?

HIS - I didn't go back to look...was this your cruise week? Haven't seen you out & about on any of the boards. If it is, I hope you are having a fantastic, relaxing time :)

Ugh...another crazy day - started this at 8am while I was drinking my coffee / shake and here it is 3p

Weathers been cr@p so its been hard getting motivated for a lot of outside running - and we are trying to work back up for another half marathon on June 4th.
I've found I was doing more harm than good trying to force myself out the door at 5am 3 days a week.
For one, I was having a horrible time with exhaustion - something that has gotten much better since I've stopped the 5am runs
Also, it was a safety issue. DH didn't say anything, but it was in the back of my mind that I was out, running by myself, at a time when there were very few people around. I mostly kept to our residential neighborhood streets, but was still running by densely wooded areas.
So now, if the option is there to run in the evenings, I am leaning towards that - especially as the weather has improved.
As it gets hotter, this strategy may change again
I am also getting a lot of enjoyment out of my cross training days - focusing on weights & resistance, as opposed to cardio, and it has made a huge difference. My body is morphing again, and I can see the lean muscle I am putting on...my arms are even bulking up a bit with the definition.
NSV - I got my dress for my nephews wedding Memorial Day weekend - spaghetti strap / open back and even I have to admit, the hard work is paying off in spades.
I still weigh...once or twice a week, depending on how I feel. But while the scale is showing me fluctuating between 151 - 154, my pants are fitting better / different.
Eating - I am doing my own thing...its generally hour to hour. I have settled down and picked a handful of foods and making it in large quantity to eat over a couple days, ie, red pepper cauliflower soup, and continue to remain prepped with lots of veggies in the house.
My one recent indulgence was this past Satuday - We went to where my niece waitresses in Fairfax - (Cheryl, it is a whole-foods restaurant called "True Food Kitchen", in the Mosaic shopping district off Rt 50) sorry for the offshoot there...anyway, I had a bowl of Panang Curry and DH and I split the most decadent flour-less chocolate cake (made with egg whites instead of flour) & 1/2C of homemade vanilla bean ice cream! We had ran 7 miles that morning though so it fit the macros ;)
...and even when I get the evening munchies, they haven't been turning into all-out binges - I'm stopping at a small spoon of Fluffbutter and a couple handfuls of granola. :crossed: that I haven't jinxed myself ;)

Hi all,

Things have been crazy for the last week or so. It has been moving non-stop for a week. I guess we have most things out of house (a few things in garage and the furniture that we are leaving in the house till it sells). Met with the realtor on Tuesday, hoping to get his recommendation for an asking price soon and I expect that it will go on the market early next week.

Only 13 ranch houses in our price range for sale in my city and 5 of them are already sold. So we hope to price right for a good and quick sale.

Phase 3 is going good, I lost 1.8 # this week with the moving activity - that has been accompanied by eating out most evenings. I am looking forward to cooking something in the kitchen. I have been cooking breakfast most mornings. The Ideal Complete is nice for lunch, normal p2 lunch but only 4oz of protein, plus the shake. I have found that breakfast is holding me most days till lunch. I have been eating the same thing mostly for breakfast - 2 eggs, 1 slice toast, 1 cup of raspberries, 6 oz of greek yogurt.

Beth congrats on the dress, cross training and most of all controlling the binges. Is DH back running or is he still sidelined?

MiWi - I completely get the 12 hour days and the commute messing with exercise. Maybe you can find a way to get 20 minutes in during your lunch at least a couple of times a week. I think / know I will always have to think about what I am eating - although I feel that if I think lower carb I have to think less.

Blue - congrats on the closet -- have a great time on your vacation. I would like to do the closet before I unpack everything, but it just isnt the time.

Destony - thanks for the link to the blog. She has a great perspective, most of these people were successful. So far in P3 I have not experienced the increase in hunger that I thought I would - hopefully do the continued high protein and lower carb. The main thought I had in reading both articles was I am glad IP discourages exercise during. It give me an additional tool to help maintain and I can do this while maintaining lower carb. Its hard to continue to exercise 6 -8 hours a day and stay on a restricted diet in the long term.

One - how did things go yesterday? I have been thinking of you.

Well back to unpacking another box or two.

Sue
