My coach implies I cheat.

I'm tired of my coach implying I cheat!

Have any of you experienced this? It's discouraging, to say the very least. Needless to say, I am dreading tomorrow's weigh-in.

Before you ask...
YES, I follow IP protocol religiously.

When I average my weekly loss, it comes to 3.3lbs (that will change to under 3 pounds as of tomorrow, however). Yet, my coach claims that I "...must not be in ketosis" because I'm "losing less [per week than the average woman [in ketosis]. My Ketostix read otherwise.

W1: -5.5lbs
W2: -4.5lbs
W3: -0lbs (She outright accused me of cheating!)
W4: -5lbs
W5: -2lbs (This time, she implied I'm cheating.)
W6: -2lbs (Upon her 3rd implication, I told her about my Ketostix readings.)

Goodness, I dread tomorrow, as I've only lost a pound so far this week!:(

She is unqualified to be a coach. I would dump her asap and find a new coach. Your weight loss is quite fast actually, and well within IP guidelines. In fact, many people who are OP with IP do not lose nearly as fast unless they are a lot more overweight than you.

It is dangerous to spur people to lose too fast. And to create an atmosphere where you dread weighing in is unacceptable. You are working far too hard and paying too much $ to have a poor coach.

Keep up your great work! You are doing wonderfully! :yay::cheer::cp:

Btw, have you considered alternative products with same-as-IP macros? You can save money & get great support here on 3FC, though having that person-to-person weigh in is great, IF the other person is supportive and informed.

Best of luck!

JJTx 07-15-2015 02:55 PM

I agree 100% with what Mars said. You're losing weight and she accuses you of cheating?!

Find another clinic. Today. Any coach worth their salt will give you a free consultation/phone interview, make some calls and "interview" the coach before you sign up with them.

When I switched, my new clinic didn't charge me anything extra to move, they are happy to accept anyone because they truly want to help people get healthy. I hope you can find someone like that!

CristaLee 07-15-2015 03:09 PM

Thank you for your feedback! It's validating. My gut has been telling me that she is a poor coach, and my research tells me that I have been quite successful these last 6 weeks.

CristaLee 07-15-2015 03:13 PM

I will begin looking for another clinic in my area. Meanwhile...wish me luck tomorrow. If she is anything less than encouraging, I will tactfully call her on it.

Great plan! You're in charge here, and you have the results to back you up, not to mention the money.

She needs to take a refresher course at the very least. I can't help wondering if corporate IP incentivizes coaches with rewards for highest lbs lost or something.

Grateful4Health 07-15-2015 04:12 PM

Boo.
I'm sorry that happened.

I hope there is another clinic in your area, or another coach at the clinic.

JLUS 07-15-2015 08:46 PM

IP average weekly losses for women is 2-3 lbs per week. Your loss rate is 3.33 per week which makes you FASTER than average. RUN from that coach!

By the way, don't use the ketostix... They are not designed to measure the kind of ketosis resulting from this eating plan. They are for Type 1 diabetics. After low carbing for a while, our bodies slow or stop excreting ketones into the urine. Also the amount of water we drink dilutes them. At some point they will stop registering ketosis even though you ARE in it.

As long as you are 100% on protocol, you ARE in ketosis. No stix (or validation from a coach) needed.

Let us know what she says tomorrow!

Busymomx4 07-16-2015 06:11 AM

My first coach did the same. I had great loss the first 2 weeks (10 and 7) then 0 and -1 the next 2 weeks, the first time she accused me of cheating which I never did and the 2nd time she was telling me that I must be doing something wrong as she's never seen that.

At that point, I changed clinic cause she was discouraging me and making me feel like a failure and just the idea of having to go see her for a weigh in gave me severe anxiety.

Your weight loss average is actually excellent, their claim of 5-7lbs a week is so inaccurate.

JLUS 07-16-2015 08:01 AM

I have Never heard IP claim 5-7. I have seen 4-6 for men but always 2-3 for women.

frawniemae 07-16-2015 10:20 AM

I'm on the "drop her" wagon. You don't need someone dogging you like that. You know you are doing right, you know that you are OP; take what she says with a grain of salt and keep on keeping on! You obviously are doing IP correctly with those numbers! That coach needs reminding that this journey is an individual one and while there is an average WL across the board, each person will have his or her own results. If you don't have the option of finding another coach/clinic and you stay with her AND she keeps up with the accusations, report her to corporate.

I would report her anyway.

LegalEagle14 07-16-2015 11:49 AM

You've gotten great advice in this thread, and you have a great plan going forward! I'm amazed with the things she has been telling you. I would be THRILLED to have your average losses, and you are doing amazing! Don't let your "coach" get you down, you are on the right track.

AliciaJ703 07-16-2015 01:37 PM

Shame on her. That is so unprofessional. Everyone is spot on you should get another coach.

Lynnie63 07-16-2015 01:44 PM

This program is hard enough without having the coach on your side. I lost 110 pounds and it took me just over 1 year, so that's about 2# a week. I followed the plan 100%.

Tarier 07-16-2015 02:42 PM

I am SO sorry you have a coach that treats you that way. Let us know if you find a new one who is much more trusting and supportive of you!

Looking at your losses, you are what my coach has always told me was what to expect; she told me that women usually average a loss of 2 - 3 lbs compared to men, who tend to lose 5 - 6 per week.

Ugh, cannot believe someone who is supposed to be your advocate and cheerleader would be like that!

Grateful4Health 07-16-2015 04:07 PM

Christa how was your appt?

I have to say my clinic was my savior during my year on IP and now still during maintenance. I feel like the money I spent on IP was 50% for the clinic - otherwise I would have just bought alternative products.

JLUS 07-16-2015 10:50 PM

Yes... How WAS your appointment??

fiannalove 07-17-2015 01:30 PM

I lose an average of about 2 lbs per week. Your coach is a jerk!

Destony 07-17-2015 03:55 PM

I would be out of that clinic so fast their head would spin. I would find another clinic, explain why I was changing AND report her to cooperate. No one needs to be discouraged, ESPECIALLY someone who is following the program AND losing like you are.

wuv2bloved 07-20-2015 11:59 AM

Your body does crazy things....everyone is right, find a few coach....I am coming at this from a prior coaching experience....It could be the time of the month for you and if you don't have it any longer it could be when you used to have your cycle. The heat right now has a lot to do with retaining water as well. If you know in your heart that you are 100% protocol then you have nothing to worry about. I lost 269lbs with my average being 3.2lbs per week. That was with me being 100% for 2 years, I had gains, losses and maintained some weeks, I just let the program do its job....if you follow it, it will work for you!...Don't loose focus on your goal...YOU are doing it for YOU and no one else...don't listen to what she is saying, you know if the heart of hearts you are doing it correctly!...Stay strong, you have lots of support and are NEVER alone!

PrairieQueen 07-20-2015 12:19 PM

Did she used to work for "Biggest Loser?" They like to pull that kind of stuff.

nimmer1991 07-20-2015 04:17 PM

Follow-up

I'm anxious to hear how it went this week? It would be cool if there was a yelp like place for couches. It is so important to have someone as your support!

Ketostix

Although I'm just in my first week - I also asked my coach about getting Ketostix, she mentioned not to bother because as JLUS mentioned our bodies slow or stop excreting ketones AND that we also eliminate ketones through our breath and there is no way to measure that level. Stay strong - you are doing GREAT! :carrot:

usmcvet 08-17-2015 09:53 AM

She works for you! Can you get another coach?
