I think the failure I had first time around helped to motivate me not to do that again.

Keep trying! You'll get there.

Thanks. I will!

usmcvet and avalon: you are both so inspiring. Weight loss is such a difficult journey that lasts forever. Losing some, gaining back and getting back on track is so hard and brave. Keep going strong and never give up.

Anyone know how reliable the body fat scanners are? I'm down to 212lbs from 250 ish. Last weigh in I only dropped 5 lbs, but 4" from belly. No change in size on bicep, thigh, of chest, yet body fat analysis on coach's computer says I've lost muscle, and body fat has increased. Confused.

They are not reliable, just keep on with the plan. BTW, the 'lean mass' that the doo-dads measure is not just muscle, but everything that is not fat. This includes bone, water, visceral tissue, leftover food in your gut, waste material in the intestines, and anything else you can think of. If you want a measure that is more accurate, you need to be measured underwater, or DEXA scan, or BodPod. These usually cost a bit of money and are often only available at a university where they study body comp/biology/sport medicine. Sounds like you may have just started on your journey, so I would bet that that 4" is bloat that you have been holding - most men will hold a lot of fluid in the belly region and that is lost near the beginning of a ketogenic diet.

Thanks for your reply. I will see if our local campus offers it.

I am back for motivation. Week one is behind me. I did not plan and pack for today. I have a stash of IP food here at work but need to head to the store for veggies!

I was always suspicious of those things. I don't have a scale in my house anymore. I will weigh in at the doctors and with my coach. I don't need a scale, I can feel how my clothes fit. That's more important to me right now.

I've been doing IP for almost 6 months and I'm down almost 110 lbs.

I eat 3 IP packets (or non-IP equivalent) daily: one on the drive to work at 8am, one at around 11am, and the 3rd with my lunch at 1pm or so.

Breakfast: scrambled egg whites and Canadian Bacon

Lunch: Subway chopped salad with chicken breast, turkey, or steak. I use hot sauce in place of dressing.

Dinner: 6-8 oz lean protein plus 2 cups of veggies.

I eat of lot of things that IP says are a no-no. Shredded cheese on my salad. Sauteed onions. Sour cream. Popcorn. I also have one 12 oz can of Hansen's diet root beer daily. But I eat all of these things in moderation.

On average I'm eating 10-12 oz of protein per day in addition to the IP foods.

I also drink upwards of 120 oz water daily.

USMCVET - I am back for the same reason. Lost 110 in 2013 and kept most of it off but never really got the hang of "maintenance". Went back to regular eating, had knee surgery and 65lbs later.. I am refocused.
