Nice loss simplchaos :)
And thanks for asking Mimi, the fire is under control and hasn't advanced towards the town. At least not that I have heard. Nothing big planned this weekend as we have rain in the forecast, but at least we are hanging onto double digit temps! If it's not too wet on Sunday we may go for a boat ride. I hope everyone has a great OP weekend :) |
DD glad the fire is under control. My house almost burned a few years ago and we were all evacuated for a few weeks, it was terrible.
Mimi let's do this thing - annual doctor's visit next year - no regain. I'm in it to win it. Hope everyone has a great weekend. |
Happy Friday, everyone! I normally love Friday's but I have been on leave from work this week, so the arrival of Friday has come too soon -- back to work on Monday.

Make your supporters PROUD and your detractors JEALOUS!! Briael -- thanks for sharing about MFP -- I use the same screen name there as here, and like you, it's very helpful to know who is looking to connect with me, rather than trying to guess. And, I am happy to have more IPeeps 'friend' me over on that very useful platform! Your postings about your 3 week experience off program are very informative - it is amazing how easy it is to return to eating the carb/sugar laden foods that got us into this situation. I found that out on my early May trip - my biggest trigger foods -- sugary stuff - really grabbed me, and after just a couple of bites, I was ready to devour every sweet thing in sight. I know now that it's a lifetime issue for me - one year off sugar is not enough to dilute that strong craving. I have been suffering the hungries terribly lately. The past 2 days, away from the normal work routine, and surrounded at home by stuff that needs to be done.... my put of control procrastination is standing in the way of my making progress on any of that, which makes me feel guilty -- all of these factors are contributing to my desire to EAT. No need for any particular food -- just more food, period. I need to take a lesson from Sue (Sgrealtor1) and make sure I have a head of celery and extra romaine on hand!!! :D I am having dinner with my old boss today - she has been a great supporter of my weight loss :), and then I am heading for the dance studio for the Friday nite social dance party. By the way, in case you missed my posting about this..... I have been asked to help demo the dance-based fitness program LaBlast (aerobic dance routines), choreographed by Louis Van Amstel -- if you watched early seasons of Dancing With the Stars, you know who he is. He has taken some dance moves and put them into some fun workout routines. The latin routines are similar to Zumba, but there are many more that are based on Viennese Waltz, Swing, and other dance types, and some incorporate hand weights. I go to the LaBlast class on Sunday's, and starting this week, also on Tuesdays. Anyway, for anyone in the DC metro area who has any interest in learning to dance ballroom, latin, or swing -- come join me on June 28 from 2-4PM at the Elegant Dancing studio in Fairfax. FREE social/open house -- no partner needed - mini lessons, prizes, some professional spotlight dances, and a really good time!!! Lemme know via Private Message if you are interested in meeting up there. I would love to meet some of you local IPeeps!!! |

I haven't heard re: the job I interviewed for...last I knew they were still reference-checking. Seems to be a true hurry-up-and-wait situation. I have another interview for another position for which I've applied next Thurs. And the best news is that I love my current job so it's all good! My burns are healing but they look AWFUL! I'm just grateful my abdomen is in no shape to be "showing off" so any scars will just add to the stretch marks and loose skin (paints a beautiful picture, doesn't it?). I'm still super-busy with projects, extra duty (+Pay) work, and fun things. Last nite we made a spur-the-moment decision to go to a Jimmy Buffet concert when I found a great deal on VIP tickets. Tonite we're going to a dinner with friends at a swanky private events space. And for the rest of the weekend, we'll be hanging out with other friends at their lake house. I'll just have to watch as others swim, tube, and water ski. I don't think the burns are healed enough yet to risk getting in the lake. The wounds haven't gotten infected and I'm not chancing it! |
Chaos - great loss! :broc:
Lisa - sounds like you have an awesome weekend planned :) best wishes on the job interviews - much better to be job hunting while employed than otherwise Mimi - while your gyn might have been making comments based on recent "studies", that was not a very supportive statement to make to a patient...besides, who does some of those studies anyway? one - the dancing sounds fun and one of my new goals is to go outside my comfort zone - been too much of a homebody for too many years - unfortunately, I am out of town that weekend. DD - scary! Glad the situation is better. Amber - my parents lived in Longmont and my sister is still in Boulder. I will never forget seeing the side of a mountain burning (30 / 40 miles away) from my sisters living room - January of 2009 I believe. Horrible Today I had my first well meaning friend tell me "You are getting too skinny". When I told her I still want to lose another 30 pounds she said "But you'll look anorexic! You look terrific now!" I appreciated the compliment and told her the final weight wasn't that important, but I'd really like to be in a size 8. So I am relaying this story to my hubby tonight who pipes up with "I doubt you'll ever wear an 8 - your hips are too big"  :( this coming from my normally very supportive hubby. He saw my look and said "go for it...what do I know?" and I said "You know nothing" (Game of Thrones joke) and we laughed...but ugh. |

I wanted to thank you also for continuing to suggest the book “Refuse to Regain”. I was struggling mentally last night and picked up that book from my bookshelf, and thought of you as I was reading through it. It helped me tremendously, and helped encourage me again and straighten out my mind from the discouragement it had been in this last week. That book is fantastic, and also I’m already doing so many things she suggested, so that also reminded me of all the “wins” I am in and took me out of the negativity. I hope the lake is incredible. oneuh2 love to hear about your dancing - I’m a dance lover too:) - don’t quite have time to go to studios but considering at some point taking another class if the time presents itself. Beth I understand all that you write. It’s an important part of this phase of the journey - all the body feelings and thoughts and learning to live in a new body, negotiating people’s reactions and comments, etc.. It’s a part of maintenance that isn’t covered under "medical” and not discussed that often at clinics I perceive, but important. I’ve gained and lost weight a few times, so have a sense of how to navigate other people, but I how I feel myself I haven’t been so good at. I just really don’t have a good sense of my body - I’ve had so much denial over the years. If it helps, every month it gets better - I have things come up (this last week for example I hit a bout of negativity and discouragement) but then I learn the next thing and keep going. I’m having another “rest” weekend after a few months of lots of activity and stress, and it’s helping so much. Going to go into summer busy-ness again soon, with work and other activities, but I’m for sure a summer girl so once I’m rested up I will be happy to be out and about again. Hello to everyone else - lots of best wishes and thank you for all of your sharing, great to have the mutual support here. |

Too much water - I don't have the scientific stats, but it takes quite a bit to reach hyponatremia - the main issue with iPeeps is making sure you have had adequate salt during the day. Electrolyte imbalance can really make you feel weak, tired, headache-y, and just generally wonky. If you feel any of this, a 1/4t of salt in warm water...or personally, I'll dump it in the palm of my hand, lick it off, and chase it - with some water :) Thanks Amber - I have a ways to go - I don't think this is dysmorphia - but I've never been a normal weight for more than 6 months throughout my adult life...I reached it twice and got pregnant right after, each time (NOT happening this time!)...I've been overweight since I was 6 years old. Maybe I won't get to a size 8 - I know I can get into a 10 though :D - and be dammed if I'm not going to try! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend - it was beautiful but my house desperately needed some TLC after a month of running on the weekends. My Dyson went into overdrive lol DD10 had a play date so I was really able to get a ton accomplished. |

I came across this article yesterday, some good ideas (some are not strictly OP, but a lot are ideas I've never thought of... http://www.epicurious.com/expert-adv...better-article (partially copied below - some of the bolding is mine) You don't need sugars, syrups, or artificial flavoring to make amazing-tasting waters: just look to the fruits, veggies, and spices you're already using in your kitchen. Almost any fruit, herb, spice, or veggie-infused water you can make is going to add a new level of deliciousness and healthy hydration to your day. And you'll be shocked—pleasantly—by how much flavor a branch of rosemary or a slice of grapefruit peel can impart. Add even less expected flavors like ginger and cilantro and you'll have a beverage that's on par with anything sweetened and artificial. Take the wasteless approach As you cook, think about the ingredients you're preparing for dinner as potential water infusers. Before you throw away a peel or a stem, stop and ask yourself "would this make my drinking water taste better?" The answer is usually going to be "yes." Sliced cucumber is a classic addition to water, but it's actually kind of wasteful: because are you really going to eat those slices of cucumber after they've been floating in water for a few days? Probably not. Instead, next time you're peeling a cucumber for a salad, add the (washed) peels to your water for a similar effect. The same goes for apple or pear peels, too. Juicing a lemon for a recipe? Instead of throwing away the squeezed lemon halves, add them to a pitcher of water for a lemon infusion. Ditto for limes, oranges, and grapefruit. When you're prepping strawberries, save the tops—even that little bit of fruit still attached to the greens will impart a wonderful sweet strawberry flavor to your water. Herb stems, or that last bit of the herb bunch you bought for a particular recipe and aren't sure what to do with now, are natural partners for water. So is that vanilla bean you used to infuse your creme brûlée or the cinnamon stick you used to make rice pudding—just give them a rinse and add to your water jug. Fennel fronds are another great (and often discarded!) addition to water, especially if you're a licorice fan. Try pairing the fronds with orange peel to make your water molto Italiano. The Basic Infusion Method You don't need a recipe or any special instructions here: just fill a pitcher or large jar with drinking water and add your herbs, peels, and fruits. Now let it sit for a couple hours. For overnight storage, or if you prefer your water cold, keep it in the fridge. Infused water usually keeps for about two to three days, and you can keep replenishing the water in your vessel with the same ingredients over the course of those days. After two or three days, start all over again. |

Morning ladies. I was just wondering why on some days I cannot stop thinking about food...it is a struggle every second not to eat...I have to get out of the house or do something...BUT on other days it does not bother me at all!
Hysteria 625 thanks ...the party could of been a disaster...I also made sure I stayed away from the food table...nothing worse than standing around that table talking....you see that junk and it talks to you...lol |

http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-li...-20044256?pg=1 Also from Wikipedia: Under normal circumstances, accidentally consuming too much water is exceptionally rare. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests in which individuals attempt to consume large amounts of water, or from long bouts of exercise during which excessive amounts of fluid were consumed. From Scientific American: Liquid H2O is the sine qua non of life. Making up about 66 percent of the human body, water runs through the blood, inhabits the cells, and lurks in the spaces between. At every moment water escapes the body through sweat, urination, defecation or exhaled breath, among other routes. Replacing these lost stores is essential but rehydration can be overdone. There is such a thing as a fatal water overdose. Earlier this year, a 28-year-old California woman died after competing in a radio station's on-air water-drinking contest. After downing some six liters of water in three hours in the "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" (Nintendo game console) contest, Jennifer Strange vomited, went home with a splitting headache, and died from so-called water intoxication. There are many other tragic examples of death by water. In 2005 a fraternity hazing at California State University, Chico, left a 21-year-old man dead after he was forced to drink excessive amounts of water between rounds of push-ups in a cold basement. Club-goers taking MDMA ("ecstasy") have died after consuming copious amounts of water trying to rehydrate following long nights of dancing and sweating. Going overboard in attempts to rehydrate is also common among endurance athletes. A 2005 study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that close to one sixth of marathon runners develop some degree of hyponatremia, or dilution of the blood caused by drinking too much water. Hyponatremia, a word cobbled together from Latin and Greek roots, translates as "insufficient salt in the blood." Quantitatively speaking, it means having a blood sodium concentration below 135 millimoles per liter, or approximately 0.4 ounces per gallon, the normal concentration lying somewhere between 135 and 145 millimoles per liter. Severe cases of hyponatremia can lead to water intoxication, an illness whose symptoms include headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, frequent urination and mental disorientation. Liana |
