Anyone tried making their own pancake syrup? Seen a few recipes using xantham or guar gum (or glucomannan) and stevia, along with some maple flavouring or essence, and figured it may be a way to get a thicker syrup than either IP or WF offer.

How am I supposed to account for my 2 year old stealing my food?! Lol, it's hard to complain when he's trying to make a meal from my broccoli and kale! Little moocher

3 weeks on IP today

So I started IP 3 weeks ago and expected it to be really difficult but I am really good at following directions. I have never tried to lose weight so honestly I didn't think it would work. I am amazed!!! at my 3rd weigh in today I have lost a total of 10 pounds (a little over 3 pounds a week)! I am so surprised. It was so tough at first but I got really creative with the food and now I am on a roll!

IP meal replacements are technically not mandatory - they can be handy if you have a very busy job or are traveling, etc.

P3 is about starting to 'up' your breakfast foods to jump start your metabolism for the day, and learning to incorporate healthy carbs a bit at a time. You don't need an IP product for that part of it. I'd look at the macros on the side of the Ideal Complete and see how to fit real food into that. According to the chart you need 1 protein, 1 starch carb, 1 fat, 1 fruit ie: eggs with toast and butter, and a serving of berries or an apple, etc.; or a protein smoothie with 1/2 a banana, and a serving of cereal with some homogenized or 2% milk (which includes the fat); or a piece of cheese or nut butter on toast with a side of melon. Just for some ideas.... It may show all of those things plus IP Complete for breakfast but according to my coach it should say or there.y

Dear Liana,

Thank you so so much for replying -- i really appreciate it! My coach told me that IP is now recommending that we have an IP meal replacement once a day in Phase 3. I had never heard of that so I re-asked, and she then said that every other day would be OK.

This is not at all on the protocol sheets -- those say the meal replacements are an "alternative" to a regular lunch or dinner. I'm just curious whether any other Phase 3 or 4 folks have heard of this new "suggestion" ... Or is it just a ruse to get me to buy more IP products?! Or is it because Phase 3 needs a more gradual rampup? I am actually travelling right now (which is why it has taken me so long to log on...), so i just threw a few meal replacement packets into my suitcase the other day and, in fact, am planning to have one instead of lunch tomorrow. Of course, i forgot to snap a photo of the nutritional info of the meal replacement packet, so im not sure how to count things. In ay event, i really appreciate your advice -- if I'm the only one who has heard about this alleged "mandatory" thing, i might just have to skip it....

Liana -- muchas gracias!!

Mimi47... the P3 lunch and dinner are just the same as P2, so the next logical move from P2 to P3 would be to increase breakfast while leaving lunch & dinner the same...
Makes sense, no??
What is their reasoning behind the meal replacement idea? :s: Other than making more money... or like I said, making it convenient for travel and tight work schedules. But we really should already be used to eating 'non-packet' food for lunch and dinner from doing P2, even if we have a busy life.

I'd fight that one if I were you. Show them the logic, and ask for their reasons. ;)

Good for you sticking to it! I am lucky in that I've been at my current job over 7 years and most everyone has seen my ups & downs and are always understanding when I say "no, thank you" :) Hopefully your co-workers catch on...nursing is hard though. My mom was a nurse for 25 years and was always having to watch her diet too (b/c of all the break room food).

Nursing is hard when you are trying to diet in the sense that nurses love to eat and they love to eat crap! Theres ALWAYS donuts, cakes, chips in the breakrooms, its neverending and with all the stress in the ER its easy to want to go for the junk, but Im not giving in. I just drink more water!

Welcome back, Jemma51!!! You can do this. Take one meal at a time, and one day at a time... after just a few days, you will begin to feel the good stuff about this program and your scale will tell you good news. You can focus and do anything for just few days - you proved that before! So come on and just do it!!!

The only thing I did different over the weekend (which usually is the case) is that I ate my snack at night instead of the afternoon (my week is extremely different from weekends, so the snack in the afternoon is better for me because I am in bed not long after my dinner during the week) Any insight from you all would be greatly appreciated...Thanks ladies and gents ...Lbj

When I had this issue, not sayiing its the same but sharing, I had started drinking flavored water without noticing the extra sweetener in it. Maybe look to see if anything small like that. Stay positive!

Hello everyone! Glad to see all your success. I dropped an amazing 3.5 lbs this week, probably the last of my preggo fluid retention, but it was really nice to see a 77 on the scale!!

My mom is visiting me from Canada this week (yay!) and we will be doing lots of walking and dining together. She knows I am watching my food choices and she is supportive, so that helps! Gotta pack lots of bars around with me!

Have a great day!!

Just think about how well the program works when you give it your all. Drink lots of water and herbal tea. I find a spoonful of WF carmel syrup is enough to get me through cravings for sweets sometimes. Also, sometimes for my veg I'll take frozen rhubarb, put it on the stove with WF maple syrup and cinnamon, cook it at medium high until it's the consistency of rhubarb pie filling and have that for my veg. It feels like I'm being totally naughty but I'm OP! Hopefully some of these suggestions will help. Good luck!! Oh, and go to bed early. Can't eat bad things when you're sleeping! :D

Hi, I am sort of a lurking on this site. I always read everyone's input (and it has helped me a great deal) but I don't usually post very much - which is why I can't figure out how to change my ticker on the bottom, lol. I had to answer this question though because I just started maintenance but when I was in Phase 3 my clinic told me it was now mandatory to have a meal replacement as one of your meals in Phase 3. This is new, which is why it isn't on the protocol sheets yet. I would say this has only been true for about a month or so. I didn't want you to think your coach was just trying to get you to spend money.
