It's been a good weekend for exploring what I can eat while still staying OP. We have a fantastic local butcher who knows us and was very patient with my questions about some of their seasoned meats, even going to ask her husband in the back to make sure I'd be 100% okay. As a result, bf and I are having a lovely California roast (that's chicken breasts wrapped around a pork tenderloin) for dinner with some rutabaga. I also grabbed a few other meats to throw in the freezer for the next while.

Today we were at the local farmer's market's Garlic Festival (it's a big deal :P). I managed to find something to eat there from one of the Thai vendors that was within guidelines and we grabbed a garlic braid to tide us through the fall (we're big garlic eaters). Also grabbed more of my favourite coffee for my morning ice coffee. I'm far from being a coffee snob, but I've been using coffee beans from Bulk Barn for the last week, and at least for doing it iced, it's not even close. Seeing as I was often having at least one purchased coffee a day, it actually ends up cheaper to have these awesome beans for my morning treat.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone, I'm back to marking.

I have been searching and searching, but have been unable to find an answer. . . .

Has anyone started with IP (pay your fee, get start up foods and supplements, weigh ins, counseling) only to discover the alternatives. . . then switch completely to the alternatives (including supplements). . . . BUT you continue to go your clinic? If so, how has that been perceived by your clinic?

I suspect that those who shift to alternatives but want to continue to go to the coach still buy a minimal amount of their favorite IP foods, maybe including most supplements, at their weekly weigh in but then get half or more of their protein foods from the alternative choices.

I am about to try that myself in another week or two. I am testing out various products to see what I like.

Most clinics will discontinue those not using their products. It makes sense. They make a lot of money in the marked up products & without those sales would go out of business.

Getting back on IP, and knowing exactly what I need to do in maintenance - even if it does sound harsh to eat mostly in phase 2 the rest of my life - it is worth it. I do plan on adding some dairy/cheese, a few nuts, limited starchy veggies, and a little fruit in maintenance - but all of these with caution.

Congratulations! What a wonderful way to start the day.

Wow very nice NSV. Thanks for sharing and congrats! Barb
Hi all and congrats to all the new starters and esp to everyone still plugging along.

Barb-- AMEN. You sum up what most of us maintainers have discovered. That along with Maile's post today are the heart and soul of the rest of our lives, as women...and as we age....and figure out maintenance. It's not always just the carb sensitivity...it is controlling the craving along with the need to be in a safe place for easier self discipline that will get us what we want. A life long diet that works instead of lifelong dieting.

Still popping in here a few times a week...this and all of you are one of my addictions...and a right good one !!

Things in my world are still a "bit" hectic. Got back from Austin last week after a month of caring for my daughter after surgery managing her "recouperation" and 100% in charge of the 1 and 3 year olds during the day. Daughter still had 3 drains in when she was sent home.. and was in lala land for the first week...but the kids were very good for me. I'm admitting honestly tho'... just too old for that long term! Good reason 65 YO women don't have babies!

Now need to get my own world on track...and it's a whole new world with hubby home 24-7 now! We have been too busy to enjoy and celebrate his retirement...but we hope to get something on the radar...soon.

Have a good week all!

What you say, of course, makes sense.

I just don't know how my coach will react once she finds out I'm not even getting supplements through them.

The clinic I attend does have other IP clients. However, we are a small portion of what they offer. This place has a plastic surgeon on staff -- they offer surgical and nonsurgical procedures -- they have a big following of clients using the HCG diet. You can get your botox from them. You can get a facial. You can see a vein specialist.

I just need to make sure I'm not shocked when they kick me out.

Your clinic sounds similar to mine. So far she hasn't kicked me out and I do get a few things there that I can't get elsewhere. I have no problem doing that. You never know....maybe your coach will surprise you

New to IP - Started on Monday when I saw my not only my weight but also my metabolic age

I'm not sure what was worse giving up the food or the wine..... Felt mean and angry and hungry and well mean is probably the best word. Today I believe I actually smiled and and laughed once or twice.

Did any one else go through the grumpy's???

Looking forward to my weigh-in tomorrow morning

Facing50, I am sure that I felt grumpy! I had a very hard start with horrible headaches and the carb flu, but I was hooked after the first weigh in Believe me, it gets easier and then harder again, kind of an ebb and flow. But it was worth every minute and missed glass of vino.

Good luck on your weigh in tomorrow!

I used to get very grumpy! Especially when I was hungry. Once I ate something I was fine again. I gave my kids permission to ask me if I was hungry if I yelled at them for no apparent reason. After that I started being able to catch it myself.

My daughter calls it "hangry". A combo of hungry and angry. And it's a great description.

If I have learned one thing so far on this plan it is that I need food to live, I don't need to live to eat.

I am nowhere near phasing out of phase 1, but I am already nervous to re-introduce carbs.... Since I have been trying unsuccessfully to lose this weight for the better part of 20+ years I am nervous that I found some thing that works and I have to go back to the "real world" of eating.. LOL

Guess there is no sense in worrying now as I have some time ahead of me...
I am so with you here!

You know I understand this from their side too! They believe in their diet and products. If you are using a lot of different foods, you aren't going to tell people how IP worked so well for you. But most of us have been fighting this fight for years and we are desperate for a diet that truly works for us!

Pebbles I am doing about half and half. I am getting my supplements at clinic along with some products that I like. I bought the brownies, choc drink and mangosteen last time. The rest I got this month from Nashua Nutrition. My coach is ok with it because she thinks IP is getting really expensive too. I wish I could do all IP because their products are great but I just can't justify it when I see products half the price elsewhere.

In the meantime I am so excited. I am trying on old clothes and have a whole new wardrobe in my closet. Very motivating! Yesterday I was looking for my capris that I usually wear and I kept trying on different ones because they all looked alike. They were all loose! I couldn't believe it!

Pebbles,

My coach has been supportive of my approach: I only buy the Cal/Mag from my clinic and buy the rest myself. I come in every two weeks and normally purchased two boxes. This past week, with moving to P2, I only bought one box. I honestly try not to take up tons of time of my coach, since she's not making as much on me. Admittedly, I have never gotten a personal email, supportive phone call, or really much "coaching" even when I was paying full price for program. My IP clinic is in my doctor's office.
