Farmers market

Happy Hump day!
A thought from Beck Diet Solution:

Sabotaging Thought: Life is too short so I’m just going to eat this even though I know I shouldn’t.

Response: Actually, life is too short to be spent overweight, unhappy, and unhealthy. If I want to feel great and really live my life the way I want to, then I need to do what I can to maintain a healthy weight
.

SophieLT & evemoma:
We all love Farmers Markets! I'll be at Schlafly BW today to pick up my CSA. My farmer lives on your side of the river, too! We should meet @ Soulard sometime. That's an approximate equal drive for all.

SuzieQ120 06-11-2014 07:56 AM

Question - when we try to aim for 40 net carbs per day, does that include fiber or do we subtract it? I find I am going over that number, but it is due to the starchy veggies like broccoli and cauliflower...

SuzieQ120 06-11-2014 07:58 AM

Question - when I am using testing for ketosis, usually the stick reads in the trace area. I am wondering if this is dilutional since I am drinking so much water, but I want to make certain I am not doing something wrong. I am staying 100% on plan but weight loss has stalled this week...

Net carbs are total minus fiber

Any veggie on our approved list is a NON-starchy veggie. Starchy ones are corn, peas, potatoes, etc. - the stuff disallowed on IP.

Well, unless something has changed since the first time I did IP, there is no set number of carbs we are to "aim for". That being said, all coaches seem to freelance the rules somewhat and yours may have given you a number. If we follow protocol, per the sheet, we are automatically within protocol guidelines without the added stressor of tracking carbs, fats, protein grams, etc. if this has changed, I hope someone else will chime in because I will also start keeping track.
As far as subtracting fiber, the answer is yes. Subtracting fiber from the carb count gives you "net carbs" which is a more accurate fuel measurement.
Hope this helped somewhat.

Morning fellow IPers

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It is raining here and I am looking forward to going back to bed after dropping the kids off and watching Orange is the New Black. Any one else love that series?
I feel like eating crispy pancake for lunch and breakfast, is that wrong?

evemomma 06-11-2014 08:41 AM

Not seeing my coach today so did my own "official" weigh in (and the first time I've weighed since last Thursday). And you know what? I'm OFFICIALLY down 20 lbs!!!!!!!!!! So I'm still on track for losing about 2 lbs (give or take) a week, which is I think probably realistic with 15 more pounds to lose. But I am over half-way now.

I will not be weighing myself again until next Weds (will weigh the morning of my coach weigh-in at home). Glad I got my act together with the scale.

Now to keep plugging away! Have a great day, my friends!

Morning!

Good morning all! The birds are singing outside this morning which is a pleasant sound after the loud thunderstorms we had yesterday afternoon and evening!

Jenny, I haven't seen Orange is the New Black but I have several friends that love it too! If I cave and sign up for Netflix, it will be one of the first shows I watch from the beginning.

Today is going to be sort of neat, I have taken the traditional ritual for the blessing of a home (usually used when someone moves into a new place) and adapted it to use for the "blessing of the practice" for my chiropractors. It sounds sort of cheesy but it is really a neat thing. I will also bless their hands, as they are used for healing. I have done this with two dentist friends of mine as well and both were quite meaningful occasions. So I am looking forward to that this evening!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Grace Rev - what a wonderful idea! I will have to ask you to do a remote blessing when our house is built, but since we are not breaking ground til next week, there is no rush.

By then, I am determined to be in single digit sizes. I decided yesterday as I started in wearing size 12 on the bottoms and 10 on the tops, that since I have never achieved that since I was in high school, I am going for it. My entire family is bottom heavy so I do not know what the odds are, but I want something big for which to push.

I am only 20 away from goal weight wise, so I want something new that will be a real challenge. The size 8 on the top should be a breeze, nothing left there, but the back end will be the real achievement!

LOLing! Yes, as a fellow pear, I agree that the junk in my trunk is not shrinking NEARLY as much as the rest of me! BUT, I am really happy to see that I have a waist again (after 2 pregnancies!). I have learned that I can't compare sizes to slimness as my body fits clothes so differently to others.

And I can hear those old "not good enough" thoughts start creeping in my brain again, even after losing these 20 lbs. BUT...I am going to fight them. I didn't lose weight to look like a model. I am losing weight to get my life back under control, to get get healthy, to improve my mood, and to be the best me I can be. And that best me may still have a little jiggle in her wiggle.;) SO what??????

schenectady 06-11-2014 10:16 AM

Losing my waist was the one thing about pregnancies (6) that made me sad. I had always loved that I could play up my smaller waist.

Now that I have lost so much weight, it is still relatively speaking the smallest part but there is a whole lot of wrinkle that was not there before children!

That being said, I would not trade my boys for anything. They are the joy and light in my life and I am just beginning to reap the rewards of having raised them well.

I'm right there with you! 3 children later I am going to have to get comfortable with my new body. But that new body is becoming a smaller version every day:smug:

My weigh in today was great. Down 3.8!!:D after my big loss last week I was prepared for a slower week. What a great surprise!

I haven't been to the farmer's market in Soulard in years. I remember it was huge and fun! I thought about doing a co-op but was afraid I'd get a bunch of vegetables that aren't on plan. Once I get to phase 4 I think I would like to try something like that!

Kellyc14 06-11-2014 10:40 AM

oh my gosh!! Can I just say that yesterday was an insanely crazy day?!!! And it was the first time that I ALMOST (but I didn't!!) ate something off plan out of stress!!! It was in the moment and totally an emotional thing, but I realized it for what it was and did not eat the tortilla chips!!

Can I share my day? I really need to share it with someone!! lol Ok so first work was kind of hectic and I am on call this week. I work with disabled and elderly clients. I work in the office and am the staffing coordinator. Anyway, my daughter calls me at 2:00 and says that she had a bloody BM, she is pregnant and has Crohn's disease, so I leave work and take her to the ER to get checked out. While I am at the ER my DH calls me and tells me that their is a baby alligator in the ditch at the front of our condos. He's sending me pics of it, the next thing I know he's sending me pics of the police arresting someone. No not over the alligator, lol, the police had just swarmed the complex and kicked in the neighbors door (we live in a condo in a nice area!) and arrested a guy (it was total choas he was sending me pics etc..) In the midst of that my on call phone rings... it was one of my workers, the client was in a rage and was hitting her. She ended up calling the police on her and she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance (the client that is).

As I was dealing with that the emergency room people came running into the room and rushed me and daughter out into the hallway, they had a critical patient that needed the room! The poor man was in respiratory distress, they didn't know why and he almost died right there!! Geez

We sat on a bed in the hallway for an hour or so watching all of the commotion. My daughters blood work and ultrasound came back showing that all was good, thank you Jesus!! and she was discharged. Baby is due on Christmas!! :D I LOVE Christmas!!

Well my daughter hadn't eaten since 8am and by the time we left it was 9pm so she kept saying that she was starving, for some reason my brain heard this and thought I should be hungry too. lol I knew I was going to be a while at the hospital so I ate a RTD chocolate blended with spinach before we left. I stopped at Wendy's to get my daughter a baked potato and salad on the way home and when I got home my hubby was eating take out from the Mexican restaurant, and my first instinct was to eat the chips!! My hand was involuntarily moving to the bag!!! lol I stopped myself though and decided to eat the left over chicken and veggies from the night before, it was maybe 3/4 of a cup total. But OMG I felt like I totally failed! Blew the day! Was off the plan!!! :o

In reality here's what my day looked like:

B: IP choc pudding blended with 2 cups spinach
L: south west cheese puffs IP
S: butterscotch pudding
D: RTD blended with spinach 2 cups

when I got home less than one cup left over chicken and veggies from night before.

So I really didn't go off plan????

When I finally did get to bed, midnight, I got another call from work and had to go pick up a client from the hospital 30 miles away!! at midnight!!!!

Friday is a full moon and Friday the 13th...lol

Seems like a lot of people are having the crazies this week! You my dear -the most crazy one I have heard so far! Sending some healing and calming energy your way right now. Good for you for using your obvious emotional intelligence to navigate the stress you were surrounded with!

week 2 woes

Hi All,

I'm really struggling today. I have not seen movement on the scale in 4 days. I know it is my time of the month and I feel incredibly bloated. I also know that I need to stop stepping on the scale everyday for validation that this diet is working. I am still the skeptic.

What I am really struggling with is the dinner portions of meat. I am told by my coach that I am to consume the exact portions that are listed on my daily sheet. Which includes for my weight 5 proteins a day, 2 cups of veggies at lunch, and 8oz of meat plus 2 cups of veggies at dinner. I feel like I am force feeding myself at times to consume this and last night at dinner I was full half way through the meat portion and made myself finish.

This feels very wrong to me. It made my body feel like I did when I used to overindulge. I texted my coach but have not gotten a response on this issue.

Do I stick exactly to the diet guide or do I listen to my body?

NotCoolEnough 06-11-2014 11:45 AM

From Yesterday:

Johnsdeer: Morning everyone! Question for everyone since the topic of rhubarb came up. If you are growing a garden this year, what are you growing in your garden? My husband is a farmer (field corn/dehydrated onions) and last year on one of the corners of one of the fields my MIL grew a HUGE garden however; I want something closer to home and minimal to manage. I bought two raised garden bed kits that I'm planning to put together. I don't want too many veggies but, I'm going to plant zuchini, english cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes. My mom has a bumper crop of lettuce so no need there. I also have a HUGE planter that came with our house that has a raspberry bush in, my daughter loves raspberries.

I started my garden before starting IP, so mine isn't the best example. I've got 9 tomato plants (I know! I love tomatoes. Some are cherry tomatoes, some heirlooms for straight eating, some sauce tomatoes), three bell pepper plants, two hot pepper plants, two blueberry bushes, a raspberry and a blackberry. And I still have two empty beds! I was planning some winter squash, as I will hopefully be phased off by winter. The last bed was supposed to be asparagus, but I never got around to it. Maybe next year, or I can save it for broccoli and cauliflower in the fall.

I also tried to plant strawberries, but they sent them to me too early (there was still snow on the ground) and they plants all died before I could get them in ground. Ordered potatoes too but never got around to planting them, which is ok since I can't eat them right now anyhow.

Wow, that was a crazy day!! Good for you for staying on track. It is challenging for sure when you are in a situation where there is no IP food available. I try to keep a Quest bar in my purse at all times just in case.

I too have my first grand baby coming in December, so excited.

I also started with 5 packets and I had an incredibly difficult time eating all the food the first week. I dropped the 5th packet during the first week, which my coach was okay with, and choked down the rest of the food the best I could. By week 2 I wasn't having trouble eating it all anymore. Hopefully it will get better for you, too.

This feels very wrong to me. It made my body feel like I did when I used to overindulge. I texted my coach but have not gotten a response on this issue.

Do I stick exactly to the diet guide or do I listen to my body?

Lala - I am not an expert and think that maybe this is something to discuss with your coach when you weight if you are comfortable with that idea.

However, after 11 months and 88 pounds, I will offer my advice as to what has worked for me. First, I often split the protein up because not only is that a lot to eat at once, I often am hungry earlier in the day for some. Chicken in my salad, ground turkey in my omelet are treats for me. They still are counted in the total for the day, but split up.

As far as the veggies go, my absolute favorite thing to do is to add chopped frozen greens to my dark chocolate pudding mix to make a HUGE and delicious morning smoothie. Those veggies count towards the daily 2 cups at lunch and dinner. I will also roast veggies during the day as a snackand those count towards the veggies.

My general thought is that what is most important is that you feel good and satisfied in a way that will support you in staying on a healthy eating program like IP. I am not saying in any way to eat MORE than is listed, but to say do listen to what works for you and your body and redistribute the amounts if that strikes you right.

NSV today!!! I was deciding what to wear to work & pulled a pair of pants out that I haven't worn in 3 years.....not only did they fit, but they are comfortable!!!! I'll be grinning like an idiot all day :) My next WI is tomorrow & I'm hoping to be past the 20 pounds lost mark.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Definitely split your protein Lala! I am a small boned person and can't eat that much protein at one sitting. My coach said to split it or even reduce it to 6 oz if need be. Remember though that this is 'before cooking' weight - so don't weigh it after and use that as your measure. Often I didn't even eat my protein snack after dinner as I was not hungry then with so much food. I used the extra pack at my hungry time 3-4pm-ish. I also almost never ate any extra lettuce/salad as it was too much food for me to add and lettuce is optional anyhow. Hang in there, you will feel better soon...

Kellyc14 Wow girl with all you had going on yesterday you deserve a big  and you also need to pat yourself on the back for staying OP. How wonderful that you were able to fight the stress hormones and not give in.
You got this!!

Thank you! I was happy to be able to recognize that it was stress eating, I was amazed at how my hand bypassed my brain and was reaching into the chips!!

Nice! It's crazy how mother nature can put a damper on your garden. :(
You know what I'm looking foward to eatting again sometime, fresh corn on the cob...and potatoes. Bi-colored corn is delish and sheppody potatoes. Sheppody are used for french fries at fast food restraurants because of their nice fry color, unfortunately your average consumer can't get their hands on them because of their shelf life. Delish!! My husband use to grow them and gave my parents some of his seed potatoes so they now grow them every year.

Today is my official way in day...I think I shot myself in the foot last night though. I knew I was sensitive to eatting ham...it seems I forgot how much. Monday I weighted 2.5 lbs less then today. This happened to me when I ate pickles two weeks ago. Good news is that I will see a difference in a day or two after even more water today and it gets out of my system. I'm making a mental note on the ham though - definately no bueno. And here I thought I had even purchased one with less sodium. Aack..oh well. At least I know why the scale hasn't gone down today. :)

I'm running out of clothes to wear, plain and simple. Yesterday after work I went to a clothing store and was headed toward the plus size section and honestly had to tell myself that they didn't have clothes that fit me anymore. I saw a cute top in the juniors section...and I allowed myself to walk across the threshold of the section..and In! I felt like I was breaking every rule in the book. I picked out two sizes of the top to try on and ended up buying one of them. By the by...the top looked appropriate on..it was like it was a hello kitty half shirt or anything. LOL
I want to buy a swimsuit so I can take my daughter to swim lessons (18 months old) and I also have to buy a dress. I was looking online but, I have no clue what size I am for a swimsuit or a dress......feels kind of weird. This really takes a while o get use to I think.

Thank you ladies! I am so glad I found this forum. I am such a rule follower that i was trying to follow to a T what the program said. I will try to split it up of even cut down to 6oz.

OH SNAP, I have been weight my meat AFTER it is cooked!! i did not know to weight it first.

Hope everyone is having a stellar day!
I'm taking a short break from work (aka rebooting takes so long it feels like forever) so here's my daily howdy, and just saying out loud I'm doing this. We went to seafood buffet last night. Crab, shrimp, (no butter) and salad were perfect, along with a big water. Hubby having what I used to eat didn't bother me at all.

I wish the ticker would leave a little trail behind the moving marker.... Little seed pods or fat bubbles or something

I bought a suit from Lands End online and I think it went by measurements. That may help a little....

I found out my clinic is switching from IP to pro-energy products. Has anyone tried this stuff? Wondering how it compares to IP or if the protocol is the same.

Just got home from weigh-in. It's a two-week weigh in, because I was out of town last week. 6.2 more pounds gone forever! I'll take it! :broc:
