My husband is a farmer (field corn/dehydrated onions) and last year on one of the corners of one of the fields my MIL grew a HUGE garden however; I want something closer to home and minimal to manage. I bought two raised garden bed kits that I'm planning to put together. I don't want too many veggies but, I'm going to plant zuchini, english cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes. My mom has a bumper crop of lettuce so no need there. I also have a HUGE planter that came with our house that has a raspberry bush in, my daughter loves raspberries.
I started my garden before starting IP, so mine isn't the best example. I've got 9 tomato plants (I know! I love tomatoes. Some are cherry tomatoes, some heirlooms for straight eating, some sauce tomatoes), three bell pepper plants, two hot pepper plants, two blueberry bushes, a raspberry and a blackberry. And I still have two empty beds! I was planning some winter squash, as I will hopefully be phased off by winter. The last bed was supposed to be asparagus, but I never got around to it. Maybe next year, or I can save it for broccoli and cauliflower in the fall.
I also tried to plant strawberries, but they sent them to me too early (there was still snow on the ground) and they plants all died before I could get them in ground. Ordered potatoes too but never got around to planting them, which is ok since I can't eat them right now anyhow.

I have a garden plot which is not near my house but is in my community. I have: 12+ tomato plants (yeah I know, probably too many but they are all really unique heirloom varieties like Cherokee Purple, Hillbilly, Rainbow, Mr Stipey, Red Zebra and Green Zebra). I love tomatoes. Didn't really plan this but maybe I'll be done IP by the time they come in. Also, I exercise a lot and last time I did IP, my chiropractor told me to eat an extra packet of protein (unrestricted but with higher carbs), so instead I just have tomato for the carbs with a different packet... We'll see what happens when the tomatoes are ready.
Besides tomatoes, in my garden I have: many types of lettuce, 2 stevia plants, broccoli which the groundhogs ate (maybe I'll get one, but it's probably too hot now), cilantro, oregano, lavender, bee balm, a few strawberry plants (Quinalt- which are amazing), just planted Chinese broccoli/kale, chives, catnip, lemon thyme, regular thyme, spearmint, nasturium (you can eat the flowers- they taste spicy, as well as the leaves), dill, snap peas... That's it for veggies. I need to plant basil and rosemary still.
How do you all use cilantro and oregano fresh from the garden? My cilantro is growing like crazy and I had to snap the flowers off to try to encourage it to keep growing leaves. The oregano over-wintered when all else died (poor rosemary, lavender and sage) and I dug out half of it, but it's going crazy too!
Lettuce from the garden is divine. You can grow it in containers if you don't have a garden. It's so easy to grow. Just sprinkle your seeds on the dirt, cover with a slight amount of soil, and water. I had store-bought lettuce today and I couldn't eat it.
I am planning to plant several Asian seeds that I bought from Kitazawa Seed company. I went there in search of Spinach to grow in the summer and found Malabar Spinach in Red and Green varieties. I also bought seeds for: Oka Hijiki aka Seaweed Mustard (it's a mustard green), Tatsoi aka Bok Choy (Pak Choi)/ White Stem Pak Choi (such a good green that I was introduced to at the farmer's market), 2 different types of Chinese Broccoli, and Kingoma Tan Sesame. I've never seen a sesame plant, so I'm going to plant it just to see what it will grow into!
Some of these seeds might have to wait until the end of summer if they are cool weather plants. Virginia is just too hot in the summer. It's hard to grow lettuce, but I grow it in the shade of my tomato plants and it's happy.
Happy gardening! And hi to everyone- I just started IP yesterday, though I've done it a few times in the past with great success. I had spinal surgery in Dec 2011 and I'm finally feeling better from that.
I love rhubarb and I finally got a rhubarb plant that is 1-2 years old. I have to plant it still but I'm trying to decide where to put it. My garden plot is only 10 feet by 20 feet and I know one I pick the spot, it will forevermore be dedicated to the rhubarb. I've never grown it before (my mom always did when I was a kid).

I think I would cry. I am a slow loser and hope this doesn't happen to me. I feel like I am just barely functioning at times because of this diet. I know when I did the diet before there were a few weeks maybe week three or four where I didn't lose much. I would give it a week like you said and see what happens.

Someone please tell me that the dizzy, weak thing is not going to last. When it gets close to mealtime I feel as though I could just drop to my knee's with weakness. I don't really remember from last time if it ever went away. I read somewhere that the dizzyness comes from your blood pressure dropping and to drink more water. Is this true? I know mine has dropped a lot.

Have you been taking measurements? Sometimes the body needs time to shift things around and you don't see progress on the scale BUT you do see progress in losing inches, say around your waist or arm or thigh.
Also, for me, I have to have a restricted item every other day. Don't know why, but it works a lot better than when I only eat the unrestricted items. Also, try drinking more water. Like a gallon per day. If you are dehydrated, your body will hold on to everything.
You have already lost 14 pounds! You have made a lot of progress! Hang in there! You are successful!

Are you getting enough sea salt? Sometimes low sodium levels can cause weakness or dizziness. Also, if you are on meds for your blood pressure, you may need to see your doctor about changing the dose (since your pressure is lower since starting IP.)

Been a rough couple of days as far as IP goes. Cheated on Saturday but had planned to by having a couple of drinks for my birthday. On Monday, I had outpatient surgery to remove two cysts on my head. Surgery went well but was not as easy to bounce back from as I hoped. Had WI on Tuesday and gained 2 pounds (which was expected from the cheat and anesthesia) but lost inches almost everywhere. Back on track now and motivated to stick with it until my planned break for our family vacation (Caribbean cruise at the end of June )

There are a lot of questions and comments today but I think most people got some help. Julz -- yours worries me most as I hear your frustration. I know you got advice last week but try some new things:
--water - you got that advice
-- make sure you're taking your oil (not cooking with it but getting it in)
-- Too little food can cause a stall too so are you having the restricteds? Someone said one every other day and that seems great advice
A reminder as someone else said, everyone stalls a few weeks in. Even the "Biggest Loser" show has a few weeks they KNOW the people won't do well, even with intense professional training, as your body needs a week or two here or there to adjust.
You mentioned "intense starvation" and that worries me too -- maybe filling up a bit more with lettuce or egg whites will help fill the "hungries" ?
This diet isn't for everyone, but it does work in the long run, so I hope you can stick it out a bit longer to see some success.

Hi Julz,
It is not common to lose every week even being 100% on plan. I'm glad you are sticking with it another week at least. Your body may have a memory of your current weight, or set point, or who knows why, but it happens. Check out measurements, they can change even if the scale doesn't budge. Hang in there!

I believe I'm getting enough salt. I put it in the salad dressing I make everyday. as far as BP meds go, I was prescribed them but never took them. I don't like taking meds. I know that's bad but, it's just me.

I know my BP is low and my coach checks mine weekly. She was worried about it being so low. She did tell me to put salt in my water if I felt light headed.
Not everyone likes taking meds, I get that. But you would look at a diabetic with disbelief if that person said "I don't like to take my insulin..." Our ultimate goal is to get off meds if we can, but if you need them and are feeling more lightheaded than usual, I'd check with your doctor.
(Lol -- sorry if I sound like I'm nagging. I feel like my hand should be on my hip and giving you the finger wag! ... As I tell my kids, I only nag because I care! ... they don't appreciate it either tho' )

I've been in your shoes. I just finish 9 weeks on the diet. I absolutely had 2-3 weeks where I thought, why am I doing this? I could lose this pathetic little amount doing something much easy! But I made myself push through those weeks and have had great loses the last 2. I really think if you give it another week or two, you'll see results.
Another issue I have battled, which may not be true for you at all, is feeling like any diet is a punishment for getting fat in the first place. As in, if I had never gained this weight I could eat that cheesecake. Obviously, thin people may indulge once in a while but never eat half the darn cheesecake like I did
Over the last two weeks,I have really been able to embrace this plan in a positive light. I am beginning to feel like I am doing something positive for myself instead of being punished. I feel like I have hope for myself again.
I hope you can see a change if you give it two more weeks. I am so much happier with myself now despite having a good deal of weight to lose. You can too

Happy Late Birthday.
Love ONB! Have to pace myself on it or I will do a binge viewing and be up all night. Have only watched the 1st episode of Season 2. I recommend reading the book. Gave me a bit more insight into what was going on. But not required to enjoy the series.

I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. Part of my anxiety is taking pills. I developed this after watching my husband suffern terribly and die 4 years ago from Leukemia. I know it isn't a good thing. You never know what iissues people may have. Sorry. I am trying to get better. And just so you know I don't take anxiety meds either.

Well I was finger wagging with love I'm sorry to hear about your hubby. But I do want you to look after yourself too. You know we're all here to offer whatever support you need. I personally am getting worried about my low BP and dizziness so am thinking of seeing a doctor about that. My hubby just started meds for high BP so I'm just starting to be thinking about what BP does -- I really don't know enough about too high or too low yet so that's my new learning curve.
