I stopped the IP supplements. They are expensive. I take Usana antioxidents,
chelated minerals, calcium, fish oil, and occuvite. I was not told to keep the IP supplements up during maintenance. Sylviesgirl: There are some beautiful styles in vintage clothing. My friend has a store. Ruthann: I did not wear my yoga pants to the dinner party..LOL. I also dress up for work each day and can lounge around the house in sweat pants. Rosie: are the Cayman Islands hotter than Hawaii? Great nsv on the sun dresses. I actually am wearing short skirts for the first time in years. It is fun. Canadjineh: I hear you on the crocs and pajama pants. Some people even wear pajama fluffy slippers in stores. I have become a clothes hound also and have a closet full of new clothes. I find the yoga pants are comfortable for my class and are a definite improvement over my sweats. However, I agree with you. Wearing yoga pants has become a fashion in big cities. All of the young women..and even men are wearing them often. Hawaii: I did not notice her hip humor. That was too funny. DRD1961: I am sorry you had a rough morning. I hope you feel better. Sun dresses are fun. I wish we had a target. Joysh: Your eating plan is going well and is very similar to mine. Having an indulgence once in a blue moon seems reasonable. I actually had a piece of real pizza with real high fat cheese..did not eat the crust. Like you say not a frequent ocurrence. My son wanted ice cream for his friends at this dinner. So I went in search of his favorite brand. I have not had ice cream in 3 years. As I looked at all of the flavors, memories of me eating ice cream came back. I really have changed and bingeing on ice cream is not a part of my life. |
Hello everyone;
I'm taking a multi vitamin and omega 3 Rosie, since I have been in maintenance. Isn't it funny Maile how a person does look at food so different when you have been eating less of it and healthy. Not that there isn't those moments of craving or days that you feel more hungry. But, I find that I certainly can't eat like I use to and not as much. I think its great you like to look at yourself in your new cute clothes Ruth Ann, you deserve it! I find it easier to look in a mirror now too! And I agree with the dressing up Canadjineh. A person should be able to be comfortable but still look cute and stylish. Especially in our new slim bodies, its fun to shop. My sister took me to a consignment shop when I was visiting her and honestly, I could've bought a ton of stuff but practiced some self control and bought a few items. I even got two dresses and usually I don't like dresses on my figure, too hippy. But, these two styles flattered me! Isn't shopping more fun? |
Hello all....
Hello to all.. Can't believe July is melting away into August very quickly! Have been reading intermittently since early May when I began some back to back traveling..and still not home. Welcome to SOOO many new posters. Congrats to all the victories here.....both with the scale and esp in life on this journey to all who are entering the " rest of your life" phase.
DRD..best wishes in recouping. I was reminded of you recently when my sister was talking about her hip replacement, and remembered you were scheduled for yours this summer. :) Glad you are in the getting back on your feet phase. Maile.. Like you I switched. No longer taking potassium. It's in a lot of foods that have been added now. Do take a multi which is formulated for "older" women. Lower iron.. And also low calcium since I take supplemental calcium at my age and am at increased risk for osteoporosis genetically. (also have been on boniva for over a year now. For one thing, smaller boned women are more prone to osteoporosis ..so as you lose weight..don't be surprised that your dr becomes aware/concerned regarding your bone frame... and orders a bone density if you are older and do not have a baseline. Luckily mine has been tracked because celiac disease and other genetic factors which came into play. Last year for the first time my bone scan indicated loss and I was classified as early osteopenia. There are drugs that can reverse that..it takes about 2 years...fingers crossed) I find the cal mag 2:1 ratio helps with the "C" issue which is worsened with calcium supplements..and 2:1is easy to find. The vitamin shoppe carries several. Joyish- I watched your progress with envy and interest last year. As I approached my own maintenance..I knew my height and bone size was not going to make life easy. It has proven true and the carb sensitivity at an older age is an enormous challenge. I will be 66 in a few weeks. The need to lose a lot = a large % of your body size to reach a normal BMI is probably an indicator you will NOT be able to add carbs at the levels some post in maintenance. I think for most or more who end up finding this diet is the first/only thing that worked, have the handwriting on the wall. Those who are 25-30 lbs overweight are not as broke metabolically (if at all....which is NOT saying they don't need this or some other diet) as someone who is going to need 6-12 months or longer and trying to lose 40 or more % to get to goal. It's important for that message to be shared as "healthy and realistic food for thought". I read so many who just can't wait to go back to eating normally. Our normal is not going to be normal for the NOWs...or the slightly in need of taking some weight off before they are in as bad shape as the majority of us on this site when we began. Rosie and Canadajineh... These days...I get dressed up to go anywhere..no white gloves...but kicky little sundresses..lots of them... Sandals and matching bags... Jewelry... Sporty sunglasses...you name it! Almost a year into this, and I still love the compliments..it reminds me how far I've come (and seeing me dressed in real -cute- new stuff reminds my husband too) .... I wouldn't be caught dead in lounging clothes that are not spectacular these days either. When I Wore that kind of stuff before...that is what I could have been found dead in. Never more. When I go ..... my earrings need to match my slippers.....and when I no longer feel that is important... It scares me that might indicate I stopped loving being thin. Well I'm still behind in reading and have some other comments to post in one or two other threads...maybe later...or tomorrow... I'll be in Texas for a few more weeks..time is scarce and we are crazy busy with the 2 babies. But wishing all a good summer and continued success... Kathie |
"When I go, my earrings need to match my slippers," lol. You probably have your funeral outfit picked out and stated in your will. Reminder: need to get my will updated to put new outfit in. No jammie pants allowed.

Question for maintainers- I am still closely following the "what are you eating today? Mainters thread".....but I know those are P4 days. Are you all having your "Free" day? And what does that really mean? Close to phasing off and trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect.
Maile, most of this question goes to what you discussed about maintaining a large weight loss vs. more moderate. I know I was heading toward metabolic meltdown even if I wasn't there already . I know it will be different for everyone, so I suppose a lot of it will be how my body works. BUT, darn it if I just wish I I had a crystal ball, lol! |
Evemomma, Everyone here has a different concept of the fun days. Some people eat anything they want. Then do p1 to get off any up pounds. I have not ever done fun days even when I moved to P4. I do indulge now and then in a high fat meal..like a good Indian or Thai curry..or eat black beans and andouille sausage. I generally eat low carb low sugar. My metabolism does not do well with high sugar and high carbs.
I do find that the 3 percent range is doable. It is easier to have a range of 4 pounds up or down rather than a set number. It would be nice to have a crystal ball. My advice in Phase 4 is to go slowly and see how your body responds. 65x65: I did have a bone scan and was in the normal category. However, my density had decreased from the previous span. I am thinking that with carrying all of that extra weight my density was more and decreased because I lost weight. I just had that same thought. I love being thin also..The longer I am thin, the more I like it. I also like to dress up. Hawaii69: It is funny how things have changed in terms of food. One thing I have developed is a good knowledge of what being full is. I do stop when I am full. I also go to thrift stores and think they are fun. |
It certainly is easy to eat the proper foods when I cannot go to the kitchen to find anything else. My MIL is bringing brownies tomorrow and I already told my husband I do not want them anywhere near me.
Recovery is going fine. Home health nurse just came and home PT will come this afternoon. |

Funny, I used to know right were all the plus sizes were, but I had to hunt and read the signs to find the normal and then the smalls. Worry not, I found them!! Best finds: Marc Jacobs jean jacket for $5! Yes, $5!! And Bruno Magli shoes (pumps, black w/ white polka dots, unworn) for $5!! Happy, happy, happy!! |
Sylvies: LOL, size S & XS means you get all the designer duds for a cheap price at the consignment or thrift shops, bwahahaha! It fuels my inner clothes collector! Not always a good thing. Sounds like you found some great deals!
Evemomma: I am posting my meals every day so there are 'on plan' maintenance days & 'Fundays' both, but find that I don't feel the need to have a full-on go-crazy funday, as I like what I am eating and I get enough fats & carbs to feel like I've cheated everyday - sometimes I have to add more just to get my macros in line even if I don't particularly feel like it as I don't want to lose more weight. Like last night I had 1/2 a glass of Pinot Gris with a fresh raspberry in it because we were finishing off a bottle that we both forgot was in the door of the fridge from a week & a half ago. Being gluten free means that my Funday probably won't be filled with prepared sweets or breads or similar carbs/fats combos since it is difficult to get those kinds of foods GF and I just CANNOT eat them for health reasons. So my funday might include a fancy drink like watermelon margaritas or cheese & chips, but not a full on whole day. Eating out because of GF always takes planning & is quite limited so I don't have the difficulty of going to a fast food restaurant whenever I feel the urge and just getting to order whatever I want. Sorry if that's not much help, but all my meals are posted every day, not just compliant regular maintenance. Liana |
She wants badly to help. She is bringing beef and noodles as well. This has always been my struggle with her but now I just remind myself that healthy eating will help healing.

Hi LizRR: Lurking , reading, RUNNING, and then sleeping, lol.
Here's to the cute new dresses, Hawaii! |
As I was practicing walking around the block today my husband and I were both talking about how thankful we are that I lost this weight before I had this surgery. I think the number one advise I would give anyone facing lower body joint replacement is to lose weight. It is hard to work-out when you are having the pain from an arthritic joint which actually makes IP a pretty idealistic diet for this.
Just having some middle of the night ramblings. I actually overdid it slightly today and woke up in an ache. Luckily time for some pain meds, so should be able to sleep until morning. Have a good one everyone and focus not on what food you may miss, but what the foods you are eating does for your body. |
