Vegetarian meal options
My daily video from ideal protein for today was on vegetarian options
the recap is as follows: Vegetarian Options 4 eggs plus 2 egg whites Tofu 2 additional packets instead of meat Commercial vegetarian meat substitutes such as quorn or gardian Requirements for vegetarian meat substitutes: Should be plain (no breading) 30 grams of protein (may need more than one serving) 170-200 calories fairly typical of protein meals Not more than 5-6 grams of fat Not more than 5-6 grams net carbohydrates There are plenty of products that meet this criteria Example: Quorn turkey style roast 15 grams of protein in one serving so you need 2 servings for 30 grams-ok Calories-90-doubled in 180 ok 8 carbs less fiber 6=2 net 2 net carbs doubled will be 4 ok 2.5 –doubled 5 grams of fat This is a great option hope this helps! I was raised vegetarian and I eat meat now but I still enjoy vegetarian meals through out the week! |

I know I've posted this a couple of times before, but attached is the vegetarian option sheet I received from my clinic. The circled items on the sheet are over 8 carbs, so no restricted items if you choose those options for the day.

It always surprises me the different info coaches give out. My coach told me i had to go by the protocol sheet so only eggs or tofu for vegetarians. I was happy to see the video today offer more options for vegetarians!!

I've found an even better option for a veggie burger that I cannot believe didn't make the cut on that sheet. Boca burger original vegan veggie burgers are only 70 calories, .5g of fat, 6 carbs, 4g of fiber (so only 2 net carbs!!), and 13g of protein.
It's good to see other folks out there that are seeking vegetarian options! Although I do love fish and wild game, I prefer eating veg most of the time so it was very hard for me doing IP initially. If any of you find anymore alternative veggie protein sources, please post them. Thanks and good luck to all of you on your journey! |
My mother has had great success on IP and I have been considering switching to it, since I am not currently having any luck with my usual South Beach Diet ... one of my concerns was that I eat mostly vegetarian. In my research I had found these previous threads, which I bookmarked. Hopefully this will help others out there :D LOTS of great ideas

I must have posted to the wrong thread, so apologies for this duplication. 2 variations on tofu that I love are 1) Shirataki "noodles", a healthy serving has 40 calories, no carb, no fat & you use just like cooked spaghetti. 2) Yuba, or tofu in thin sheets that you use as a wrap, or can even cut into noodles. It has a subtle nutty flavor. In California, they are made by HodoSoy, and also may be in a Korean or other Asian grocery store.
