I use the Pure Protein, too. Some are 21 g and some 35. I buy the 21g protein cans at Trader Joes (vanilla or chocolate). Almost as rich & creamy as IP! The PP website doesn't show this version (shows a 23 g version in a plastic bottle instead) but I buy at Trader Joe's so I KNOW it's out there!

Another option is Nashua nutrition (if you're in the US). There is one that is identical to IP....ProtiThin Anytime drink

I find the 21 g Pure Protein at both Walmart and a Target for $7.99 a four pack and for 1-2 dollars more at our local grocery store (Shop Rite.)
  • I'm still wobbling. I'm really attracted to the cost of alternative products, but I'm scared my weight loss will slow down

I did alternative products almost exclusively last week and had one of my best weeks of weight loss. Just read the nutrition labels very, very carefully and you should be ok.

I just bought the pure protein powder at Walmart (in Canada) and it is 15 grams of protein. The RTD ones I found were 21 though. For now they are for DH so I figured a bit of extra protein will be ok since he is 300+ and would even be allowed 5 packets. I'm going to try him with only 4 though. I was allowed 4 and other than week one only ever had 3.
  • This link has the basics of ideal protein in an alternative plan. It may help thank you to 65x65:

  • I ordered my first alternative order....now I just need to get up the guts to tell my coach!

I'm in the same boat - my weigh in was yesterday and I didn't go - he called me and I lied and told him because I was off I forgot it was Friday!! he's such a nice young man but it is his business - I can't afford $90 a week -

I'm sure you won't be the first! Ideal Protein is very strict on their price so they can't offer you a deal, but let's face it, they price themselves out of many people's reach. I know I will switch at some point and my program is at my doctors office so I can't even walk away and never see them again. My hope is that their main goal is for me to lose weight. If I had known about the alternatives before, maybe I wouldn't have even started with IP. Right now I justify it by how much I used to spend eating my lunch at restaurants every day and a. The veggies I used to throw away that now get eaten. When people ask about the diet the only part I don't want to tell them I'd how much money I spend.
  • Proti diet packages
I just contacted a distributor for proti diet in ontario. They said that since proti packets are smaller than IP, you need to have 5 a day. At $15 a box it makes it $75 a week rather than the $90 I pay now. And this is without any coach support. I'm not sure it is worth the $15 in savings. The videos I receive every morning and the accountability of weighing in with someone has been very helpful for me.

Any comments on the 5 packages? Looking at the what are you eating thread, I'm still only seeing three packs. Are they trying to make more money?

Lots and lots of people have done comparisons.
If this is a Protidiet clinic, I'd agree, they're just trying to make money. Most of us buy them mail-order for around $12 per box.

And, if some of the protidiet packets are a little light on protein, I often have a serving of Syntrax Nectar in my day (or a Pure Protein 21 shake), which is a bit higher.

I would look at the nutritional info for each of the packets rather than relying on the size. How close do they come to the IP products in terms of calories, fat, protein, carbs, etc., etc.?
  • Alternative food swQuest bars
Holy cow the quest cookies and cream bars are AWESOME. I started IDP 3 1/2 weeks ago and I have lost 16#, it is expensive so I have been reading these posts and saw the quest bars mentioned. I went to vitamin shoppe and got a couple. Thanks to everyone for the posts.

Anyone know an alt. for the 3 idp wafer bars.

Btw not sure how this whole posting thing works sorry if I did it wrong.

I use ProtDiet all the time and they have some of my FAVORITE alternative products. I just went to Nashua Nutrition website and looked at six random products, all of which had 15 g of protein... Exactly what is IP compatible! All of them also were priced at $11.99-12.99 per box of 7 (uS dollars).

I would say they are an EXCELLENT alternative choice for direct IP replacements packet for packet!!! (Always look at nutrition stats for each product, as not ALL products meet the IP standards!)

There are a number of wafer items available for several of the main alternative products a lot of us use (ProtiDiet, Proti Thin, Weightloss Systems, HealthSmart.)

Check Nashua Nutrition site which offers all these brands. Make sure you are armed with the nutrition statistics for IP compatible acceptable alternatives and check each item you are considering.
