New Raspberry Chocolates
Tried these candies today at weigh in. I thought they were awesome! Only one six piece sleeve allowed per week, but when you just really need chocolate candy, this does the trick for me. I'll have one piece a day, or 3 pieces twice a week etc. I bought a whole box and I'm glad to have them.
|
these sound delish! I weigh in tomorrow AM-i'll have to see if we have them! So how are you counting it toward your daily protein packets? Is one sleeve a serving??
|
Not sure how that would work splitting it up each day.
If you do that you're short on protein and if have it in addition to your normal packets you're adding carbs and sugar to that day. |
it was my understanding these are an "additional treat" and not a packet?
It just looks to me like IP is making ways to slow down weight loss so they can make more money. |

That said, it is hugely caloric with 70% saturated fat for the day and only 10 grams of protein. I agree. I also don't think it is a good idea to market a new product as a "treat." I'm trying to see food as fuel, not rewards. |
Food is not just fuel. If you use it right it does more than that. It's fuel but also oil and wax. So it makes you go, but should make you run (i.e. physically) better, feel better and look better as well. As for raspberry chocolates, that just smacks of BS.
I mean berries are great for you. But chocolate? Please. I am not on IP. Just eat raspberries. |

I disagree with some. My coach says one individual piece a day will not impede my weight loss and I don't have to count one piece as a daily packet. I think my coach knows what he's talking about. They run a large successful clinic. I lost 55 lbs with them years back. Thankfully I have less to lose this time around.
Of course, if one doesn't have the willpower to stop at one small piece, then this is not for them. I've had small pieces of Atkins peanut butter and chocolate candies, and lost an average of six lbs a week while doing IP. These taste way better. I for one applaud IP for continually coming out with new products to offer more variety, so I don't feel so restricted while OP. I also believe a company has a right to make money on their products. Anyway, if one does not approve, then one does not have to buy them. |
If I eat a pice of IP chocolate, I'll be expecting an IP wine drink to go with it. LOL
|
Just posted in the daily thread about this bar because I totally forgot about this thread...
Everyone who works at my clinic isn't a fan of them. I find it interesting in that they only got 10g of protein in it but 15g of fat! There's also 10g of sugar alcohol! I may as well eat a Hershey kiss! Just kidding! I took a nibble at weigh in and wasn't too impressed. Don't think i'll stray from my daily bar BUT it is a good option if you are craving a Hershey bar! I just know that as a restricted, it definitely wouldn't do the job of a bar for me. I SECOND THE WINE COMMENT! I miss my red wine so much..... |

I couldn't agree with you all more about this new bar. I think that it is a way to work in a "cheat" to your week, when in reality, it's not necessary. If I am going to spend this many calories on an IP snack, I'd rather eat something equivalent off plan. My coach and I tried them on Monday and they weren't even that good. No thanks.
P.S. I took a picture of the nutrition facts for anyone interested. |
these are something I would freeze and take out once in a while (only one mind you) and suck on it, to let it slowly melt in your mouth that helps kick the craving for chocolate sometimes!
|
My coach is also not going to carry them. She does not agree with them and was told by IP that they are making them more for phase 4. As she said, if you are on Phase 4 you are not going to pay $4.50 for a package of chocolate.
|
I tended to agree with all of you until I actually tried the bar. Now I disagree. I think the product has its place.
As a once-a-week restricted item, I think it is fine. It is one thing to "give up" chocolate when you are dieting to lose 30-40-50 pounds. It is another thing altogether when you are dieting to lose 130 pounds, like I did. I was on Phase 1 for a YEAR. I am in Phase 4 now, but wish that I would have had this product earlier. This product is not as sweet as normal chocolate and for me at least, does not seem to get the sugar "swing" going. Bottom line for this, as with any product - if it is a trigger for you, don't use it. But don't hate on other people if it is something they find helpful. We all have our own experiences on this journey. |
For me, eating has a lot to do with flavors and savoring food. I do not enjoy sweets that are just sugar. So, it is ironic that I started to eat so many sugary tasting things on IP and similar diets. I can understand that a lot of people like to eat sweets and that these diets try to cater to that. But I also think that it is crucial to learn to enjoy food for its taste rather than something to sooth and escape. So, I would not spend that much money on something artificially sweet. I'd recommend eating Lindt 90% dark chocolate or any of their other dark bars, like sea salt, chile, or orange zest. Yes, it has more calories and evil carbs and fats, but it actually tastes when you melt it in your mouth and it goes really well with a glass of red wine. I'd wait for maintenance to enjoy that and it would be healthier, too. And cost the same, wine included. And once you learn to enjoy it as a treat, you do not need to eat the whole bar, you actually will be satisfied with one piece or one row. Because it fulfills many different senses.

I tried the bar this week. I think I will be completely satisfied to have it once a week (probably Saturday night) as a treat. Like Alison, phase 1 is a long haul for me and I enjoy having this as an option.
|
For those of you that have had it, was it worth the extra calories/carbs? Taste-wise?

I absolutely refuse to eat the tomato basil soup packet - Does this mean I am hating on people who do choose to eat it? People lately are WAY over-sensitive. Eat the chocolate bar if you want to AlisonS. Eat a truckload a week of you chose to. No one here is going to "hate on" you. |

Meshellee: My coach said it is to replace your restricted packet for the day, once per week, not in addition to your 3 packets that day.

I won't abuse the protocol rule for it, but its nice to have something to break things up a bit a couple of times a week. |
Not that tasty
Aside from the nutritional issues with this, I just didn't think that the chocolate raspberry bar was that tasty. I love chocolate (dark, milk, bitter, etc.), but this bar didn't impress me at all. It was marketed as this incredibly decadent treat, but it just tasted a bit waxy to me. I didn't think that it was worth it. If I am going to have a restricted item, it might as well be a really good one.

Dark chocolate with 90% cacao in it is good for your heart and is low in carbs, since it is relatively high in (good) fats. A thin bar with 8 pieces would probably be comparable to the bar with 6 pieces, cost much less, taste better, and be overall healthier. I bet though, the IP bar is much, much sweater. Good to establish an addiction.
90% Lindt per square: 60 cal; 5.5g fat, 1g protein, 3g carbs of which 1.25g is fiber |
Thanks for all the info on this.
Once again - I wish all the clinics were saying the same thing. LOLO Thanks for the tip on the Lindt 90% chocolate. I am in maintenece so I could do this. The question is: do I want to tempt fate and risk losing control? I think for PMS chocolate craziness I will try it. That is truly the only time I really find myself looking for something chocolate to eat. It I can't control myself: I won't buy another bar. |

To each their own, of course...I have better ways to spend my dollars. |
To clarify: I meant I would try the LINDT bar. Now that I am in Phase 4 the IP food is WAY TOO SWEET for me. I tried to eat an IP bar this week as a snack: some caramel nut thing: I actually spit it out - grossly too sweet.
It is amazing how my tastes are changing again. |

My clinic said it is just like a restricted snack, she made it sound like I would take one chocolate bar daily as me restricted item. I know don't know what is what.......
|
My clinic sticks with having the bar in addition to your 3 packets...but they did say that your 3 packets shouldn't be restricted items. As we know, every clinic seems to have a different opinion about things.

Well i wish i would have found this thread before having a bar yesterday... Live and learn i guess

I tried some of the Atkins snacks when I was in P4, frankly they made me want more and some I ended up eating 2. I'm afraid if I eat this the same will happen.
I'm one of those can't have just 1 girl, so I find it easier to not have any. Some people suggest that you should just have a bite or two and not deny yourself. No way does that work for me. I eat the whole (large) piece of pie, cake, pint of Ben & Jerry's. I wish they would come out with not sweet foods. I tried the new oatmeal and thought that was sweet. |
I tried a single piece of this bar today & threw the rest away (yeah…I know…big waste of $$). Ick!

I have an Atkins chocolate Peanut butter bar a couple times a week (in maintenance as a snack or for my P1 day breakfast). Sometimes I miss my favorite junk chocolate bar - Reeses - and this is enough for me because I never ate a chocolate bar all that often before I lost weight. The only bar I ate in IP phases was the lemon one though, because it was the least sweet. You might want to give that one a try - the others were all too sickly sweet for me too. Liana |
