I really like this!

Avalon1957 09-22-2013 05:13 AM

That's funny Lisa. Sometimes humor and real life intersect. That top one actually (sort of) happened to me last week when I went in for my checkup. My doctor was impressed that my blood sugar had dropped to in-line and that my cholesterol had dropped 30 points without any medication, but all she said about the IP Diet was "you might be losing weight too fast, and that 920 calories a day wasn't enough and I should eat more".

Doctors still seem happier when you start taking the many prescriptions they want to write, and not nearly as happy about dietary improvements. I only take 1 prescription (thyroxin for low thyroid (since 1990)) -- other than that just vitamins. So I've been fortunate to stay off of the prescription mill.

These are great! I needed a chuckle this morning!

Avalon - impressive progress!

Avalon/Lisa
- to speak to Avalon's words about humor/and real life intersecting + check ups... It is crazy how Doctor's just want to keep the system circulating and ensure that they are giving each other "business" via referrals which brings them more $$$ and doesn't necessarily bring the patient (Us) back to health (i.e., meds, chiropractor, PT, Therapists, etc., etc.)..

Not too long ago did I go for my annual and I told my Doctor I was taking July to really re-commit to WW. I asked her about IP and she said: "Don't think about doing that program, it's not the healthy way to lose weight." Even when I nearly cried to her that I was continuing to gain weight from what she prescribed! She and others (friends) drilled into me that IP was No Good, but then I did my own IP research via friends and 3FC and voila, 18-AUG, here I am and the rest is history. Thank goodness I have a mind of my own and didn't completely listen to the others.. I need to do what is best for me, we all do, right?! I have never felt better and more confident about a program / life-style. It's pretty magical. I'm still in Phase I AND, I intend to learn from all of the phases so that I Phase off properly and maintain properly. I gotta continue to keep myself in check otherwise, it's easy to fall of the wagon. :mag: I know what I want and I just need to continue to keep that top of mind, no matter what the scale reads each week. Thanks again!

Not humor, but I had to respond

Please remember a few points:doctors only know what they've learned in school and advanced training.
Typical Med school curriculum doesn't even have ONE COURSE in nutrition. Yet they act like experts when treating patients

Advanced training (conferences/workshops) are typically funded by Pharmaceutical companies. What do you think THEY teach??

Additionally, more and more I'm hearing that health insurance companies are requiring certain treatments for certain issues, tying Dr compensation to the required treatment. There is a lot of money in keeping people sick.

Dietitians and nutritionists' training is no better. A lot of their training is funded by the food industry (including the research they study).

I'm not dissing any of these people there is certainly a place for them. But not in returning me to optimal health. Healthy foods and learning to stay away from processed food (which is big biz) and weaning off of pharmaceuticals (more big biz) that were just masking symptoms, instead of fixing chronic problems.

I do a LOT of home cooking now and have built relationships with small farmers.

Lisa - you are 100% SUPER DUPER on it, thank you for responding to my comment. I remember having read something similar in one of your other threads and I thank you for elaborating and conveying this message once again, good for us to re-visit, for certain. This year has been full of one MAJOR aggravation when it comes to my insurance company. I've had to fight them tooth and nail on paying out some of my much needed chiro visits as THEY CLAIMED it was a pre-existing condition and I had to prove to them that it was not. So, they with held payments until I submitted enough paperwork and letters proving otherwise. Needless to say, Insurance Companies stink and I think that if we continue to withhold some of our pay week-to-week and give them the $, they outta foot the bill on the off chance that I / We The People need a service. Yep, as quoted by Lisa, unfortunately, "there IS a lot of $ in keeping people sick". *sigh* :p

Lisa, I completely agree with you! Since starting IP, not only my eating habits, but my kids, and my husband's have completely changed. Local farmers' markets/co-ops, our own herb & veggie garden & preparing meals @ home together has been so beneficial to me staying 100% OP and providing a wonderful example for my kids!
