Loose Skin? Exercise?

I'm considering Starting Ideal Protein, but I have concerns about not being able to exercise on phase one. I want to lose over 100 pounds and I know that exercise plays a crucial role in maintaing/gaining muscle, which also helps with loose skin. Has anyone done phase one and lost a significant amount of weight and not had loose skin? Does anyone exercise on phase one? Just a little concerned.

Hydro 07-15-2013 04:54 PM

I exercise on phase one, my coach said it was fine, she actually encouraged it. For the first month she said don't, but after that I was all good to go.

lisa32989 07-15-2013 05:06 PM

Exercise is fine on P1 after acclimation to ketosis (a month is a good amt of time)

However, losing 100 lbs on ANY diet will result in skin issues
The skin will need time to "shrink" back down

fitgurl 07-15-2013 05:24 PM

Okay Thanks! Makes me feel better.

you think forever tho? :( even with exercise?

Alaskagirl92128 07-16-2013 09:18 AM

How old are you? Maybe if u are super young it might go back, but skin loses elasticity over time as you get older it becomes droopy, weight exacerbates the issue. I have lost 99 pounds since Feb 19th, I exercise a lot, I just have an extra packet :)

Exercise wont help skin. It'll help muscle UNDER the skin, which can support skin, but exercise won't reduce actual skin.

vanishingchick 07-16-2013 10:08 AM

I also asked my couch the same thing. She told me that after 4 weeks after your body adjusts to the diet, you can exercise. The entire basis of IP is maintaining muscle mass while burning fat so you won't loose the muscle.

I have lost 110 pounds so far and have no loose skin other than the girls. But they lost 20 inches, so I am not surprised there.

Still have 60 to go.

Lucky you! People of different ages will experience different things with skin. And just as some people do not have stretch marks after pregnancy and others do, everyone will be different with skin & weight loss.

I lost 100 pounds and had loose skin. After a year of exercise my arms and legs toned up and looked much better. I still have loose skin on my stomach.
I exercised while on Ip and losing.

It is worth it to be healthy and happy!

I'm happy to hear that there is hope. While I am thrilled to be losing weight and wouldn't trade that for anything, I am concerned about the skin on the inside of my upper arms. There are ridges and a "pocket" of skin. It is quite unsightly. I am 43. I am hoping that at least that area will improve. I am prepared to always have some sort of "batwing," but not how it looks right now.

Does anyone else have experience with skin tightening back up? Would love to hear it.

fitgurl 07-17-2013 09:23 PM

Well I decided to go for it! I went to my consultation today and got my binder, instructions and food for the 1st week. I feel really good about this woe. As for the loose skin, I will do everything in my power to minimize it. I do have good genes. My mom has yo yo dieted her whole life and barely has any loose skin and she is in her 60's weighing about 115 now. She looks like she has had botox because she has no wrinkles. As for me I'm 34 I have not yo yo dieted. I was very thin until about 7 years ago. I have not lost the weight until now. No stretchmarks or loose skin from my pregnancy when I was younger either. So we shall see. Thanks for everyones input :)

Jbhigdon 07-19-2013 07:53 AM

I love this site!!! Was very concerned about what to do for saggy skin that I know is coming.... Will get blueberry-cran drink on my next visit!!

I've been rubbing Bio oil on my under arms and under my chin since I started last week. I love that stuff and hoping it will help with tightening skin up!!! I use it on skin tags and they eventually disappear!!!!

Balanced Life 07-19-2013 08:03 AM

For what it's worth I just started IP and I walk 4 easy to medium paced, lies daily.today I didn't even before breakfast and felt so energized. I just finished a marathon6 weeks ago so I am in pretty good shape despite being overweight so walking was tough but I made a fun playlist on my iPod and have a blast. Warning though that I tried to jog and got immediately pooped. I could walk forever burning the fat from my tuckus lol. Glad you are giving it a go.

I agree with the exercising!:carrot:I have lost a bit of weight too with loose skin, I have tightened up the skin as best as possible with exercise and lots of water and vitamins, good lotions, and massages help the skin as well. You don't have to go to a massage therapist just massage your own skin. However, I am sure there are other alternatives to loose skin.

Maile 07-19-2013 09:09 AM

Thanks for the info on massage. I did not realize that would help your skin. I will try it!

SongofJoy 07-24-2013 12:53 AM

What I am seeing right now, on me, is not so much loose skin, but cellulite looking areas...:/ ....I've lost almost 70 pounds...and 47 inches! Yay! Not at goal yet, though...Thank you in advance for any more feedback concerning the cellulite looking 'stuff'! :)

Calisto 07-31-2013 07:37 PM

I have to say I think there is no hope with my loose skin... I have had 4 kids by C Section and with wanting to lose over 100 lb I think I will just have to deal with it! lol Or get it nip and tucked!

coloradogirl 07-31-2013 09:41 PM

Has anyone tried the IP collagen drinks with spinach? I am considering switching out my daily choco-spinach smoothie with the cran-rasberry one.

I am only on DAY 3 of Phase 1. My coach told me it's ok to exercise after the first 2 weeks. I play tennis year round. I'm on several league teams, so I don't have that amount of time to take off. I played today and was ready to quit during the 3rd GAME! Luckily, I had brought the SW puffs with me. I snacked on those and felt better. But, now I don't really want to try to exercise until I reach that 2 week mark. However, I may go for a walk or a bike ride that easy. I am participating in a triathlon RELAY. I won't have the energy to do it alone :dizzy:

The collagen packets aren't a complete protein & should only be used every-other-day.
There are 2 w/ collagen which ARE complete protein: chicken noodle soup and RTD strawberry/banana.

Personally, I only like the spinach in a chocolate smoothie. I did it in vanilla with mint for St Patty's day & it was okay too.

Nice idea on the Vanilla with mint. I have been curious about that.
I add it to the Wildberry Yogurt drink and it's okay (a little sweet for my liking)

Thank you very much Lisa! I didn't see this when I reposted that same question on the daily chat so sorry for repeating myself, ha ha!

What kinds of exercise are you guys going, anyone doing weights? I read that most exercise is ok, cardio is fine, but we should stay away from weights?

I would say strength training is fine. The IP videos says the Slow Burn method is really ideal with the program. If your wanting to do cardio you have to lower your intensity to no more than 60% I believe.

Let me get a link to that video, will edit that in as soon as I find it
Here we go: http://idealcoaching.tv/wp/archives/196

also this one: http://idealcoaching.tv/wp/archives/902

I hope that helps, gonna go find the video thread and bump it, I love watching them wish there were more lol

How long did it take the skin tags to disappear? Hate the thought of having them frozen off. Thanks for the info!

Clarington45 08-06-2013 11:13 AM

I am going to plan on doing a strength training routine after I get through the first month, hopefully that will help.

I am a massage therapist. And yes, massage will help with the cellulite and the skin. I apply lotion every day all over and it helps I believe.

Balanced Life 08-07-2013 07:48 AM

There is something online called the 30 day ab challenge. I plan to start it soon. It gives you exercises for each day and even some days off!
