  • Overheating - what does it do? I figured it just bound the proteins but IP is so adamant about it I thought I'd ask.

    I'm asking because my morning cappucchino was foaming in the microwave but not boiling - I was able to drink it immediately.
  • Happy Wednesday everyone! WI 6 tonight! So excited! I am going to jump right in with a question though: I had my gallbladder out in December 2009, and since going on IP I have had more "gallbladder" pain than I ever had while the organ was actually in my body. My coach is a chiropractor and when I mentioned something a couple of weeks ago he thumped on me a little and said it should solve the nerve pain. Not so much. It has been bad a few days to the point of debillitating and I spend the day curled up in a ball. I know it is something IP related because I had not had this kind of pain prior to going on the diet. Any thoughts?

    If your gallbladder is out, why do you assume this is gallbladder pain? Other organs can cause pain similar to the type of pain we have learned to associate with gallbladder/gallstones. Our internal organs tend to refer pain to other sites such as the right ribcage mid upper back (typical gallbladder pain). But similar pain symptoms can be produced by digestive issues such as gluten intolerance. You describe your respnse to the pain is to 'curl up in a ball'. that sounds more digestive/collicky to me. I suggest you see your medical doctor to have your symptoms evaluated.
  • I have been told by the surgeon who removed my gallbladder it is nerve pain relating to where the gallbladder was removed. If it is gluten intolerance would it come out of nowhere? I truly have never had these syptoms before with the exception of the couple of months before they took out my gallbladder and a few times in the months following the surgery. Curling up in a ball is to try to put pressure on the spot that hurts (right where my gallbladder was-because that helped with the pain prior to the removal and seems to help now too, at least to some degree).

    My insurance sucks, so I always try to avoid the doc until the last possible moment, but it may have to happen here. Meh.

  • Good morning all! A small NSV last night. I had to pull out my bathing suits for my upcoming camp trip next week and decided to try them on. Two of them are officially "donate-able" as they are too big! Another one fits perfectly (previously too small) and none look awful.

    Alas, stretch marks but ... Well, anyone got any thoughts on treatment?

    I suffered from this after a total hysterectomy more than a few years ago. I had a condiditon known as adenomyosis which is like the reverse of endometriosis...the tissue is trapped in the lining of the uterus instead of outside. I suffered with cramping and pain from my knees to my chest every month from the time I was a young teenager until past the big M and my surgery. After my hyst it was finally diagnosed...(apparently the ONLY way to diagnose this...) The same cramping continued after my surgery and I was told it takes those nerves a LONG time to realize the source of pain/discomfort is actually gone. Its been 8 years...and occasionally...I still feel that same cramping.
    I thought the Dr. was giving me the business until I googled it...it's known as ghost/phantom pain and is not that unusual after abdominal surgery...
  • Good Morning IP folks!

    I am being good and staying away from temptation while everyone here at my office keeps reminding me "we have soft pretzels sitting outside X's desk". Ugh! I can stay away from them just fine, but the constant reminding is not helpful. I am chanting to myself "I do not need any pretzels, I do not need any pretzels". Lunch can't come soon enough with everyone parading their carbs around me! As for good news - I am actually looking forward to my lunch of IP rotini made into a "pasta salad" with broccoli and cauliflower on top of lettuce. Who needs those stinkin' pretzel anyway?

    Feels good to vent!

    Congratulations on the NSV!!

    The only thing I've found to help with stretch marks is StriVectin-SD. Its kind of expensive and you have to use it every day (I use it before bed). I had stretch marks on my breasts for years - not major, just annoying. I've been using the StriVectin-SD for about 8 months and those stretch marks are TOTALLY GONE. I get mine from QVC on autodelivery - best price I've found.

    I totally agree that ghost/phantom pain is a reality, but it is unlikely that dietary changes (such as staring IP) would cause phantom pain to intensify. That is why I suggested seeing a physician.

    I had my gallbladder out in 2007 and still have pains if I eat to much fat or oddly sour cream....google 'gallbladder sludge' (yes that's a medical term), had a lot of problems after my surgery with sludge and had to have an ERCP where they actually go thru your stomach and up into your liver to help it drain of the microscopic gallstones (sludge)...which can't be seen on a ultrasound.

    Yea I've talked about it being phantom pain with my doc, I just can't decide if something I am now eating in abundance, or not eating as the case may be, is causing those nerves to be angry or if is a seperate digestive issue (which in my mind would most likely still be diet related as I wasn't having problems 6 weeks ago). Mostly trying to decide if that is the case how I can alter the diet/change what I'm eating predominantly/eat more of something I'm not eating to make the pain go away. I am loving the losses so far and minus the pain am feeling better than I've felt in a long time! Plus it is soooooo great to be a part of such an inspiring group "watching" everyone succeed with phenomenal losses is amazing and not too sound like a joiner but now that I'm part of the IPers I don't want to leave and watch jealously from the sidelines! Haha!

    Its funny the way bodies function, I was a sour cream fanatic prior to IP and did great! I used sour cream in a lot of my cooking and as a condiment (at least the light version is quite a lot better than the ranch I had previously been addicted to!) My bro had his out 6 weeks before I lost mine (on his 21st bday poor kid) and has similar fat problems and watches what he eats like crazy as it causes unfortunate D for him if he eats too much of it and it just isn't worth it for him. I on the other hand ate whatever I wanted after the surgery and did fine with the exception of needing to eat a ton of fruit or I battled the big C. So weird that siblings with the same surgery 6 weeks apart had such different results!
