Deli Turkey?
Is there a brand of deli turkey, or any deli meat really, that is Phase
1 appropriate? I really want to make a yummy sandwich with Rainbow's flatbread! |
You can always just cook up some chicken or turkey and slice it for your sandwich!
Deli meats are usually cured with a bit of sugar or have some modified starch in them - any deli meat that has carbs is no good. Plus a deli meat is going to be quite a bit higher in sodium than meat you cooked yourself, which can cause water retention. |
Great Value (Walmart brand) has a 97% fat free, 0 carb sliced smoked (not maple or black forest) ham that I love. The sodium is high, but it's my go-to meat in a pinch. It's the ONLY one I've found that fits the low fat/no carb meat in deli meats. The Great Value turkey and chicken all have carbs, which means additives.

Thanks, scorbett and leanne! :D

I finally found a 99% low sodium, fat free ham (it's listed on the Phase 1 sheet) that doesn't have sugar in the ingredients.
The brand is "Celebrity" and it was from Trader Joe's. From time to time I use this Boar's Head No Salt Added Roasted Turkey. http://boarshead.com/products/turkey...-turkey-breast It is delicious wrapped in lettuce leaves with mustard! |

I'm not doing IP, but I've seen signs at Kroger for Boars Head. Does this fit your requirements:

You might also look out for turkey tenderloin which is a bit less to deal with than a whole turkey breast. I marinate it than roast it at 375, and its delicious and super easy. |
Because of this thread, I re-read the turkey label from Kirkland turkey I bought (Costco brand). The sugar is 0 but in the ingredients is brown sugar. I thought I found a good choice, guess not!
