No canned products? Why?

My coach told me last week that canned tuna (or any canned product, for that matter) is not allowed. That really bummed me out, because one of my favorite go-to meals for when I'm short on time is a tuna salad using canned tuna, an egg white, dill pickle relish and mustard. I eat it once every 2-3 weeks. But she gave me no reason, just said no canned products. The tuna I use has 0.5 g fat, and no carbs--it's chunk white tuna in water. Can anyone tell me why this is so?
(BTW, I intend to go on eating it every once in a while because it hasn't seemed to have an adverse effect. I'm just curious, and a little irritated that no reason was given.)

Check with others, but my coach said that can/pouch tuna in water is fine. It's very convenient and portable. I drive around all day for my job, so prepping some salad ahead of time and adding the tuna when I'm ready has been a go-to.

Hmm. My coach said it was fine as long as it's packed in water, not oil.

Canned tuna in water here also. No problems for me.

My coach said it was fine too. I've been eating tuna since I started IP (9 months ago) and I've lost 116 pounds! It's probably ok. Good luck!

I also have canned tuna frequently. As long as it's in water, I can't imagine what the problem would be. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You've obviously lost well eating it! Good job BTW!! If it's not broke, don't fix it! ;)

Canned tuna in water is fine. Canned in oil has a bit too much fat, and any other canned products you just have to watch the sodium content.

I can only guess, but the clinic may be telling you no canned products because most canned goods are lined with bisphosphenal A (BPA). BPA is an endocrine disruptor and high blood levels have been linked with obesity and other health problems. It is the same substance that is in certain plastics. So, it may be that the clinic is not saying the tuna is not allowed but canned tuna......

I personally avoid BPA products and would choose BPA free whenever possible. The tuna in pouches is BPA free and canned tuna by wild planet is BPA free.

I hope that helps:)

Wow... I can't believe I didn't know this. I have about 20 cans of tuna, because I stock up when solid white albacore is on sale. Oh well... pouches from now on!
