  • Good morning everyone! I am back on the forum after a week, now that I've returned from my work trip to Chi-town. I stayed OP while away (though I did eat a big ol' steak), worked out at the hotel every morning, and finally finally finally -- down 2 lbs!! Take that plateau--be gone with you.

Question for the group: I see some people using sesame oil in recipes. What are your thoughts on this?

From my own research done wayyy before IP, oil is oil. Some are better for you than others and some better for you than olive or grape seed.

Never use hydrogenated. That's bad for you (crisco, margarine, I can't believe it's not butter, any other "fake foods").

But a little sesame oil for flavor for someone long-term on IP? It's off-sheet but I say even exchange, if used in same measurement. IMO
  • Morning, All --

Debrasb -- Great job staying OP all week while gone! And YIPPPPEEEE, the plateau is broken. Well done!

Lisa -- I like the way you think on oils. I am of the same mind. I have been reading so many fantastic things about coconut oil lately, I would like to work some in.

I'm home alone this weekend while my hubby and son are camping. I have carefully planned my food and should be fine. (I used to "treat myself" whenever they were gone.) I plan to spend the time reorganizing my closet in light of my new clothing sizes and choices.

I was communicating with plainprotein yesterday about my vitamin order being filled so late. She told me that "the company was sold this week. It has been an adjustment." Not sure that is good news.

    Have a good day, everyone!
  • Happy Weekend everyone!

I'm glad you guys are discussing Sesame Oil and Coconut Oil. I like keeping as many options open for seasoning and flavor so my meals don't become bland and routine.

I hoped to write yesterday but it was a beyond insane day with 2 NSVs :

    1) Walking into establishment where I last visited two months ago and being told, "you look skinny!" That to me was a little push I valued to keep on keeping on and telling me that something I was doing was working right.

    2) Because of my insane day, I was a little concerned about staying IP. So, when I left in the morning, I packed my bag full of items "just in case" and it all worked out perfectly in the end. I made myself and my eating the #1 Priority - whereas in the past I would have put other things first and pushed the eating to the background. The only thing I will change in the future is sticking celery in my bag. That would have helped me out much better as I was craving it while running around.

A tip to share: I am in love with tofu on the George Forman grill as a super easy option to whip up with little time. I have been keeping the 8 oz portion of tofu marinating in my frig non-stop and then it is so easy to cook when you are in a rush. All you need to do is pop it on the grill and leave on however long you want for desired consistency. I happen to like them crispy on the "chip" side so leave them on longer - perfect cooking time while jumping in the shower.

    AWESOME NSV'S!

I've been thinking about trying tofu, what kind do you buy and what do you
marinate with? I've not ever made tofu,
    thanks!

  • Thank you! :-)

At my local store, the Wildwood organic brand comes split up in two containers - each 8 oz, which makes it beyond easy to prepare portions when I know I will have a busy week. They also carry maybe 4-5 other brands and I stick to the organic and/or homemade options.

I've been experimenting with different marinades. You can really whip anything together and let the tofu marinate overnight in it. WF BBQ sauce even worked really well. Someone here shared a lime cilantro marinade for some meat dish and that's next on my list to try.

Super dumb thing - cover the dish with plastic. In the beginning I didn't and got hardened tofu in the morning.

First time I tried it on the George Forman, I didn't let it sit long enough and the tofu was still soft making the 8 oz very hard to eat. I looked at the plate and went, "uuughhh - I've gotta eat all this?" :-(

Another time, by accident, I left some pieces on for what I thought was too long and it turned out they made the most wonderful chips. After cooking the 8 oz portion of those, they are so delicious, that portion is not big enough!
  • Happy Weekend! I have the hardest times on the weekends when I am at home by myself today with my family all ready gone for the day......Hoping to keep busy and stay op!!! Have a great day everyone! Positive thoughts everyone!!!
  • I stir-fry tofu with veggies and a soy and ginger sauce. Here's my recipe:

  • Good morning everyone.
Yesterday was my blood donor clinic appt and it went very smooth. I had asked my coach if I would need an extra pkg and she really didn't know as she'd never had a client donate while doing IP. I was surprised, it's so easy to do, takes so little time and can help someone in need.

So my plan of attack was to have my supper salad(Wendy's BLT Cobb salad, no cheese/no dressing) before my appt then after instead of their offered cookies and juice I brought along a chocolate rtd and a bottle of water.

I did find though that because my appt was at 5:30 I had my supper earlier than normal and was hungry later in the evening so I did have a 4th pkg.
  • Good Morning Everyone!
Julie right there with you .....weekends I tend to want to eat more also. I planned to keep busy doing yard clean up and garden prep. Unfortunately it's raining here :/
Nice Jon staying OP Mother of Groom. . . A little planning makes all the difference.
Have a Great OP Day Everyone!
  • Good Morning all!
It is still a bit overcast here today and cool... so, so looking forward to the warmer temps that are forecasted for next week and being able to get outside!

I use coconut oil more than olive or grape seed. But I love the flavour of coconut. It also handles higher temps better and is the best to use when frying. Cauliflower rice sautéed with coconut oil and a bit of cumin, salt, ginger and sometimes paprika is my go to lunch.

Haven't had tofu for a bit but all this talk of crispy tofu is making me inclined to give it a whirl this week...
  • I hit my half way mark this week!! I'm treating myself and getting my nails done! I've lost 35 pounds everyone is noticing and is full of compliments so its very easy to keep going! Have a great OP weekend everyone!
