Mio

I love Mio, I think I am addicted!

WorldTraveleronIP 03-25-2013 07:54 AM

I think we all love Mio. I started to notice my weight loss slow/halt, so I have been playing with different items over the past few weeks to see what was causing it. I suspected it was too many added products-I was using multiple products daily. Last week, I cut back on the Walden Farms products, the sugar free Torani usage and the Mio usage. I finally dropped a pound this morning.

Enjoy Mio, but pay attention to servings (just wanted to share what I learned). I feel sad that I blew a few weeks when I could have been losing.

Psycht 03-25-2013 11:11 AM

Worldtraveler - that is interesting. I have not seen a decrease in my weight loss while using Mio. With that said, I rarely use WF products and do not use the Torani products so perhaps that is why.

Suchawittygal 03-25-2013 12:49 PM

I've never used Mio, what is is and where do you get it?? is it better than Crystal Light??

foreveryoung 03-25-2013 02:47 PM

WTH is MIO?
I can't take the chemical taste of WF, ugh! I still remember the day I tried and almost I think I lost all my guts ... I have PTSD to WF...

Psycht 03-25-2013 03:07 PM

It is water flavorer that you find next to the crystal light stuff. Zero calorie :-) My favorite is Black Cherry.

JLUS 03-25-2013 03:10 PM

Love, love, love the Berry-Pomegranite!! I only use enough to get a light flavor... I don't want to make my water very sweet, but add just to have the essence of a flavor instead of plain water.

Mine too!
I'm pretty find of lemonade, as well
I wish they had a limeade

Kat117 03-25-2013 03:34 PM

Funny - I noticed serious slow down with MIO as well, in addition to hard core carb cravings!

I am trying to cut back my usage on it to once a day and then back to plain water.

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels! LOL

fitandfabfrog 03-25-2013 03:55 PM

Love the mango/peach! YUM!

benice 03-25-2013 08:12 PM

I tried it a few times, but it made my stomach unhappy. I much prefer Crystal Light to MIO (no tummy issues), but like SodaStream flavors the best.

Rachel3 03-25-2013 08:31 PM

Wow,,,interesting comments.
I was progressing well with weighloss; and only used Mio in the evenings. However, since my weight loss has slowed down...after reading everyone's comments; perhaps it's the Mio. For the last month, I have been drinking it all the time.
I will take note of this and cut right back and see what happens.
PS..my favorite is Mango/Peach.

Thank you Psycht :)

Love my Mio but do find if I use to much I will get those carb cravings. I have learned to use less and less often. Nice for a treat especially when doing 120-150 oz of water per day.

workingit50 03-25-2013 09:59 PM

I tried to paste the nutritional information but it did not work. Anyway, I can't figure out if the ingredients are healthy? What are your thoughts?

I do not think the ingredints are healthy. I was a MIO junkie, I loved to use the orange with my sodastream, it made the best orange soda. But then I read an article about sucralose and the dangers of it and have quit using the MIO altogether. I must have thrown away over 15 bottles of it! I know many of the IP products contain sucralose and that the diet is not a permanent source of food. However, I didn't want to develop a reliance on a product that in the long run I do not believe is good for me so I quit it cold turkey.

Kat117 03-27-2013 03:39 PM

I think I may have found a reason for that long slow weight loss period. I was talking to my coach about being frustrated etc and having cravings that I didnt have for the first 6 months and how my weight loss went from 3 pounds a week to 3 pounds in one month. We went thru my food journals and the only thing I did different was I started using Mio.

I thought it was okay to use as it was zero calories, zero carbs. But it seems that any artifical sweetner (this has splenda) actually creates twice the amount of insulin in your body as regular sugar and consequently your body will store fat because of the glucose it has to produce to offset the insulin. It will also create carb cravings and that need to eat, even though you aren't hungry. Which is exactly what I have been dealing with for about 6 weeks.

So, I stopped using it as of yesterday and I will see if the weight starts to come off again.

You will-it will take a few days, but then you drop. I had the excact same experience and then just recently dropped! Pop back on to update in a few days! :goodluck:

WorldTraveler,

Thanks for letting me know that! That will keep me on the straight and narrow while waiting. It was driving me crazy with the cravings and all that.

I will let you know what happens in a few days. Fingers crossed!

Laena817 03-28-2013 07:09 PM

Thank you so much for this post!!! I started using Mio a few days ago and already saw a decrease in my weight loss... Now I know why!

workingit50 03-28-2013 07:58 PM

I am going off too, I have really liked the flavors and helps to get so much water down. Besides lemon, any other suggestions for water enhancements that are good?

Suchawittygal 03-28-2013 08:27 PM

Can we use as much fresh squeezed lemon as we want in our water?? or is there a limit on P1?

lisa32989 03-28-2013 08:42 PM

A friend gave me this recipe

IP ginger water.
Boil 1.5 gal of water, add 6-8 oz sliced fresh ginger and 1-2 sticks of cinnamon (optional), simmer 45-1 hr. let cool and store in fridge w ginger n cinnamon in pitcher. Reuse ginger til it looses it's flavor. I use only once. I like it strong. Sweeten with stevia to taste (or try it unsweetened!). Tasty n thermogenic.

Cucumber water would work too.

WorldTraveleronIP 03-29-2013 08:00 AM

Yay! Thanks for the recipe for ginger water, Lisa. It sounds wonderful!

MustangMolly 03-29-2013 08:39 AM

As I mentioned in my previous post I was a Mio junkie. It has been about 10 days now since I threw away all my Mio and I have noticed that the ache in my knees has gone away. One of the bad effects of sucrlaose that I read about was related to joint pain and I am now a believer.

Kat117 03-29-2013 02:09 PM

I have been off since Tuesday morning and I feel like I am going through week 1 all over again! That vicious headache for 2days, the stomach upset. Very interesting. But... In three days "clean" and they are the 3 days before TOM showed up, I haven't had any cravings and have had no problem sticking on plan. Just hungry, but am drinking more plain water.

I verified - we can have lemon juice, but limit yourself to 1/2 lemon a day. Same with limes. I have been slicing up a cucumber and putting it in my water. That makes a nice refreshing, clean taste.

I can't wait to get back into ketosis again and start losing again!

Current Weight: 188

Okay, you've convinced me. I'm not tossing mine out but when it's gone, it's gone (I just stocked up so it'll be a while). In the meantime, I'm cutting back.

Besides my other suggestions, a little Braggs ACV actually brightens up the water & is supposed to be good for your gut!

Kat117 03-29-2013 04:13 PM

How long does it take to get back into ketosis?

IdealProteinNewbie 03-29-2013 07:33 PM

I, unfortunately, noticed a significant slow down in weight loss too.

This was over a several week period where the only thing I added was MiO...as soon as I cut it out my losses picked up again.

Goodbye Orange-Tangerine and Lemonade :(

workingit50 03-29-2013 10:39 PM

Thanks for looking up the lemon quota. I was not aware of the limits.

Ginger water sounds very refreshing. I am going to make some soon, thanks :-)

putenpie 03-30-2013 09:35 AM

I haven't noticed any effect of mio on my losses been using it since day one, I'll try plain water for a week to see if it increases my losses. I knew it was too good to be true.
I love the strawberry watermelon.

ginettepv 03-30-2013 09:45 AM

Loving this thread. Also thought it too good to be true and now that I have read these last post, I have realized I too get carb cravings every time I drink Mio. humm. not worth it. Will use less but use of my bottles as I have 4-5 of them and at a cost of 4-5$, don't want to waste.

Those, along with anything cherry, are my favs as well. :)

stephanoodle 04-04-2013 08:52 AM

I gave up Mio after reading this thread. I had the worst cravings, especially when I came home from work. Drinking water would not help (probably because of the Mio). Although I haven't had a visit from the woosh fairy, I don't have those intense cravings anymore. Thank you for this thread!

Kat117 04-04-2013 12:20 PM

Same here Stephanoodle. The cravings were so bad I thought I was losing my mind. And I had already been on program for 5 months before using the Mio and had no cravings at all. I have been off of it for a 8 days now. No whoosh fairy, but not a single craving - even before and during TOM!

Back to herbal iced tea for me. No calories, no caffeine, no sugar. Just all natural.

Alaskagirl92128 04-05-2013 07:11 PM

I have since quit Mio as well, I too started feeling hunger when I started using Mio.

kellycg102 04-05-2013 07:31 PM

Does anyone eat sugar free Jello, 0 carbs, 5 cals? Wondering if it too causes cravings because of the added sweetner? Likely, I am going to drop it!

IdealProteinNewbie 04-05-2013 07:33 PM

It has aspartame so it's a no-no, sorry!

putenpie 04-06-2013 07:33 AM

So for the last week I have done away with mio/WF products or any other extras, the first 3-4 days felt like the initial start of IP when your body is getting into ketosis headaches, fatigue and thirsty but around end of day 4 I was back to my energetic self. My loss on the scale did not go up but then again a lot of other factors could be in play like I lost more body fat and inches. So I will keep on without mio and see how it goes. Short term investment on a long term payout.

brelo 04-06-2013 10:38 PM

I really like Mio, but I did notice that if I use too much then I do notice that it increases my cravings for carbs. I do however, use a little splash every day in the cal-mag supplement. It offsets the bitter flavor and makes it taste like a sweet-tart! (It is actually quite tasty that way) I like it best with the orange flavored Mio. The small amt I use does not seem to affect my cravings or my losses.
