Good morning fellow IP'ers. - life has been so busy I have not had time to be on here - has wi last night lost .3 lbs and 2inches will take it since was Tom -- the boyfriend is starting week 4 today and has lost 26 lbs and 17 inches it's crazzzzyy --

My question is -- I have never been sick on IP yet - i woke up this morning with no voice sore throat and all the other wonders with a cold -- what kind of medication should I get ? Can i have more then one cup of herbal tea to help with my throat. (No milk and stevia added )

mquinn106 03-14-2013 08:10 AM

Dinie89 Sorry you're sick :( I caught a bug a few weeks ago. I asked the pharmacist for an OTC diabetic friendly cold medicine (spacing on the brand) but they will definitely be able to help you. Also, gargling vinegar and salt water alternately (it's awful) will help the sore throat. I made tea and added ginger root and lemon, that seemed to help. Feel better!

NSV this morning: got into a sliming new pair of jeans :) I walked in the door and my boss thought I was a client coming around the corner, I'll take it!

Have a great day everyone!

ABue1 03-14-2013 08:32 AM

Good morning everyone, hope you all have a great day. Week one on ip is officially behind me and week 2 begins. My WI is this afternoon but I've been weighing at home each day and I've lost 4 lbs. I'm wondering though, since I only have 21 lbs to lose is 4 lbs in the first week a good loss. I guess I expected the first week or 2 to be more because I think the loss will probably slow down or does it remain somewhat consistent. My coach said I could conservatively expect to lose 3 lbs. a week.

Non-caffinated teas are great because you don't have to drink extra water after each cup.

Like mquinn posted, you can use sugar free OTC medicine. Also if you can stomache it, a mixture of apple cider vinegar & cayenne pepper is supposed to knock out pretty much any virus. It's even supposed to be a home remedy for strep throat. It's pretty nasty, but works.

That's a fantastic weigh in considering you only have 21 lbs to lose. It's almost 20% of your total weight loss goal. The first couple of weeks might be around 3 lbs, but as you get closer you may be looking at smaller losses. Be prepared to see losses of 1-2 lbs a week as you get farther into this. Don't get disouraged though, because with most of the mainstream diets you still wouldn't be losing that much weight each week.

Month In Review

Made it through the first 4 weeks OP. Results thus far:

First 4-5 days - feeling Gawd awful - Got over it

First week - 15 pounds gone :carrot:

Second week - Zip, Zero, Zilch, Nada - panic and join the forum

Third week - 20 pounds gone -poof - clothes fitting better - people noticing

Week four - No pounds lost - according to my crappy home scale - but more importantly no pounds gained. More inches gone - but wondering why it's off my butt - pants aren't fitting right by any means :dizzy:
I no longer need to take my acid reflux medication. Total weight loss for month one 35 pounds.

Things learned - I can do this - My life won't end if I don't have sugar or carbs - it took many years to build up to this weight so it's not going to come off in a blink of an eye - I am learning that my body seems to respond on a two week loss cycle, nothing week one and then a loss in the second week.

That's it, that's all. Have a good day all.

You can have as much plain decafinated herbal tea as you want
Sorry you are sick!
Old family trick for colds/viruses: chicken soup!
Roast a chicken & make chicken/veggie soup. I use celery, leeks, bok choy.
I just weigh the cooked meat when I pull it off the bone so I know how much is in it (toss the skin & use the carcass & veggie scraps to make the broth). I usually have about 6.5 oz cooked meat to account for shrinkage in what that raw would have been

Feel better!

Charbarot 03-14-2013 10:02 AM

I am ecstatic. I had my WI today (a day early due to State basketball games tomorrow) I lost 3.2 lbs this past week. That's a total of 11 lbs in 3 weeks. I am finally in the 170's.....BRAVO!!! :carrot:

IP43 03-14-2013 10:05 AM

Spiritman -- Fantastic results and glad to see you're not getting upset if you don't see those great results everyweek, as it will level out a bit. Just keep blamin' your crappy scale ;) Most of us have discovered the first place you put it on (and want it gone) is the last place it will leave. My butt and thighs seem to fall off first, but the jelly belly remains sigh.... keep pluggin! Thanks for sharing your journey with us

Sign me up! That sounds like a blast!! There are LOTS of threads on travelling while OP so you'll get some great advice there. Make sure you get whatever shots you need, get your medical insurance, and drink lots of bottled water. You'll have to make the decision to be OP constantly and that will be tough if it's all inclusive. However, for that cheap of a price, you won't feel like you have to drink and eat to get your money's worth. There will be lots of veggies and meat/fish on the menu so you'll have lots of choice if you can stay away from the fabulous fruit and fruity drinks :beach:
Have a great holiday!!

Not a problem IP43 My "jelly belly" is smaller but there is still plenty of "jelly in the jar" :dizzy:

I know this will probably get me kicked out of the man club or at least temporarily suspended but - I gotta mention cellulite. Yuppers got it happening quite nicely on the keg. I don't have 6 pack abs I have a keg. :carrot: My stomach is starting to look like a moon scene - craters, pock marks etc.

Oh man, I think I might be one more step closer to dress shopping with some of the things I comment on. I guess I could always mention stretch marks. :dizzy: At least I don't have to worry about TOM.

AnnaBoBanna 03-14-2013 10:26 AM

Just woke up and feeling tired. I completely forgot about ketosis keeping you up at night. Tied and turned for several hours and didn't fall asleep until almost 5am. Bummer.

WI this morning...+0.0 :carrot: Gonna be happy that I didn't gain. :p Not gonna bring any negative vibes here!

That nearly exactly describes my pattern. I just keep seeing small losses at each WI, and I take them. I've been able to fit into clothes I haven't worn in years, and I'll take that too.

Have a good day, too!

Hi All,

I had a day yesterday that went down the tubes, but could have been avoided. I got busy with dr. appointments, kids, shopping, tutoring, and driving.

The short version of the story is that I did not eat virtually all day, and wound up with a girl scout cookie in my hands. And I'm ashamed to say I ate it. I was sad, tired, overwhelmed, and looking for an excuse.

But, I'm just going to get it back together, and keep going because the only bad thing that can come of it would be quitting altogether. And that really isn't a choice I'm willing to make.

Thanks as always for the great support...

Just read a blog entry in the Clean eating by Dr. Junger talking about the cycle of emotional eating.

First the trigger (event or cause to push us, stress), cover up-using food to mask the emotions from trigger, false bliss- the way the foods make us feel (good), hangover - guilt, feeling bad from putting yuck in body. Break the cycle! Awareness-address the issues-build a toolbox of health habits.....

Ketosis keeps you up at night? That explains ALOT!!!!! Lol.

You need to change your user name to IP Superman. 35 lbs in 4 weeks is fantastic!

Sorry you had such a busy day and succumbed to the 'cookie monster'... but glad that you're feeling strong today and 'getting back on the horse' so-to-speak. :) Your situation yesterday is a prime example of why we recommend dieters keep a 'Safety Kit' on them when they know they're going to be 'out and about'... maybe a RTD and a bar... a packet of WF salad dressing... a few packets of stevia... maybe a couple of individual sized tubes of water flavoring... a baggie with some sea salt... a bottle of water. Doing this saved me several times over the past months. Whatever you think might be useful 'in a pinch'. Treat the experience as a lesson, and move forward. You'll know better next time.

I'm not so sure about that Spiritman, IP does reek havoc with your hormones. :D

One time I was trying to decide something in regards to home decor. Husband gave his opinion, which was great, and I told him so. He walked away muttering, "I have to go watch sports now!!"

That's all I need to happen. Male menstration was definitely not covered in any brochure information I read about IP. :D

I can just imagine that conversation with my wife "The tampon has gotta go where?!?!?!"

I have been reacting to Ketosis by going to sleep but waking at 5 am ready to go. I have not needed 8 hours, 6 -7 seems enough.

I just clicked over to your blog -- I love it! I felt myself "settling in" for a long winter's read, but I have a million things to do today. My reward for getting them all done -- sitting down with a nice big bottle of water (oh yeah!) and reading more of your blog. This looks like just what I have been looking for. Thanks so much!

I thought there was a restaurant thread, but I couldn't find it in the forum search (but forum search has been returning 0 on all my searches lately).

I'm wondering if the following menu choice would be a good IP choice for Chipotle?
  • salad
  • chicken (do you think the steak would be ok?)
  • green tomatillo salsa (medium salsa)

I would skip the peppers due to the oil in the saute and substitute the salsa for dressing. In this case, my 2 c. veggies would be the lettuce (unless you think the peppers -without onions- would be ok to get, but I'm worried about the amount of oil).

From the vague ingredient list, there isn't mention of sugar in any of the above. The chicken is marinated in adobo sauce. But of course there is no guarantee.

What do you think?
I want this but am not tempted to cheat, so if you guys think no, I'll try to find something else. This was an overslept, not prepared day. I'll be buying some extra packets at my appointment tonight (1st weigh in) so I can have an emergency stash in the future.

Thanks so much!

That is so fantastic! Yes, I lost what little butt I had to begin with, and it sounds like you are losing like me. One week nothing, next week WHOOSH. Been doing that for the last 6 weeks or so.

Yes, but it doesn't last forever. It hit me about week 2 and for about a week I was a zombie, unable to sleep, but sooo tired during the day. I even took some sleeping pills by day 4 because I have to drive here and there and felt unsafe so tired behind the wheel.

That looks like a good option. I've had a burrito bowl there before too.

I know we're supposed to measure our meat raw. I have always pre-portioned all my meat before freezing into 8 oz zip-loc bags.

I know meat will vary due to type, cut, cooking method, etc but generally most people follow a 6.5 oz cooked = 8 oz raw.

Out of curiosity today I weighed my white meat chicken tenderloins (extremely lean) after broiling in the oven. My 8 oz raw only weighed 4.6 oz after cooking.

Long story short, has anybody ever experienced their almost fat-free chicken shrinking by nearly 50%?

I bought a lb the other day and after cooking there was about 12 oz left
8 to 6 instead of 6.5
Mine was lean chicken breast meat, as well. I wonder if it depends on whether it was injected or not?? A lot of commercial meats are. Mine was farm fresh.
I'm guessing more water will cook off from injected meat. I have learned SO MUCH reading labels carefully!

They were organic, fresh, chicken tenderloins, never frozen. I hope they weren't injected with anything.

Thanks!

Well today did not start out great. I found out that my job is being cut..so I have no contract starting June of this year. There are possibilities of something else opening in the same place but I will have to do the whole application process.
Good news is that had I been told this when not doing IP i probably would have stopped at closest fast food place. Instead I came home, made a salad and called my DH to let him know. I can at least appreciate the 3 month notice, many people didnt get that.
I am not going to let this derail me. In fact I will be more diligent than ever as Im going to need confidence and good health to find a new position and deal with all the changes that this will mean for my family.

Sorry to hear about your job. Way to hang in there. And way to look at the positve regarding your 3 months to figure it all out.

Thought I would post a little incentive for people not to cheat. I did on Sunday. I was 2 pounds from where I wanted to be before my holiday and had 3 weeks to lose the last 2 so figured no problem. I know excuses, but for me I am just not that strict with myself (although I did 52 days 100%) and am not letting myself feel guilty about it. So anyway wanted to give the nasty verdict of my weigh in this week. Up 2.6 pounds. 1/4 inch lost. So maybe that will help someone if they were considering a cheat. Have a good OP day everyonel.

I apologize in advance for our IPrs in the northern climes but it's sunny and 70 here in S. Central TX. I planted the 1st part of my garden today. Ironic that what I planted is a restricted veggie (tomato). Maybe I'll be in maintenance before anything ripens.
