I feel awful!

My family and I decided to go out for dinner tonight, my first time on IP. We went to The Mandarin and I chose shrimp, salad and sautéed mushrooms and veggies. I tried the pepper steak, but it tasted to good to be true so I pushed it aside. Being home now, I'm concerned about what the restaurant may have sautéed the mushrooms and veggies in (ie butter?). Did I make a bad choice and possibly mess up my week? What would it take to be knocked out of ketosis? Help!!!!!

If they were sauteed in butter than your fat will just be higher for today. Pretty sure no carbs in butter. I wouldn't worry too much about or stress yourself out. Drink lots of water!

Let's all have a collective AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :)

You actually made some great choices for dinner out. As to what the veggies were sauteed in, I know the asian restaurants near me use oil for sauteed foods, not butter. When in doubt, NEVER be shy about asking! It's your health! Look at it this way - if you were a diabetic and HAD to know what was in the food you were eating so you could take insulin, you wouldn't hesitate. Think of the dietary needs of IP the same way. The veggies were probably fine, and unless the beef was marinated in sugar and a gluten-heavy soy sauce, it was probably ok too.

RE: Ketosis - that has to do with the carbs you eat, not fats. So even if there was butter on the veggies, it would not have an effect on ketosis (though a lot of extra fat would affect your weight loss because of the extra calories). There's no "Magic" number or line in the sand for when you have eaten enough carbs to take you out of ketosis - some people are very carb sensitive and it doesn't take much. Others can tolerate more.

The bottom line is, don't stress about it. Just learn from this experience, and run with your clean slate in the morning :)

ditto! First time I went out to eat I forgot to ask if they cooked the veggies in butter. Didn't effect my weigh in, but now I know to ask!

you did much better than me, although I was on the road all day...next time I will pack veggies and my vitamins. Off to bed, felt better after supper...phew...

You were brave to try chinese OP -- not as many OP options just due to the way it's all cooked in sauces or deep fried. It's a lovely treat, but maybe venture out for steak and salad next time :) Way less stressful

We went out for supper tonight also. I had a salad with grilled shrimp and grilled chicken, brought my own Walden Farm Thousand Island Dressing. Yummmm

No worries! You made some very smart choices with your meal. Next time you go out to eat, just ask the server how they prepare the veggies. You did great :)
