Am I sabotaging myself?

  • I wonder if I'm setting myself up not to lose....

I did great first week, I lost 9 lbs. the second week I had to weigh in early and lost 3 lbs...great right?

Well I have been tracking my food on My Fitness Pal and noticed that I have been using more oil than I thought and its over the allotted amount we are suppose to eat. I've also being using water enhances in my water...

I'm looking for some feedback from you experienced IPer's on your thought on this...am I setting myself not to lose weight going forward?
  • Nope. You're fine.

Many MANY people use Mio, Crystal light and other drink flavorings to make it possible to get in all the water (or as a treat). If you have a sensitivity to the sweeteners (and you would probably know about it already) it might affect your losses, but for most people that won't be the case.

Regarding the oil, don't count what you cook with - most of it burns off or stays in the pan. The 2 tsp of oil should be counted from what you use on food directly. Some people even drink it down in a little water just to know they get it in every day. How much more than the 2tsp were you using? You are probably fine but now you know what to measure and can make the correction going forward.

a lot of people find they lose well with a bit more of a liberal hand with the oil. IP is very low fat.
  • Thank you so much I appreciate the feedback! I normally cook with about 1 T when I sautée my veggies and then I make my own drsg for my salads...with oil and vinegar.....usually around 1/2 T for my drsg I just can't stand any other drsg! So it sounds like I should be fine
  • I make my own dressing too. It's a nice way to change up the flavor and avoid boredom. I've made basil dressing, oriental dressing, and garlic dressing. I have not noticed any problem with using more than 2 tsp olive oil.
  • My first month I thought the sheet read 1-2 TABLESPOONS of oil on your veggies, and not to count what you cook with. I lost about 20 lbs that first month. I wouldn't worry too much about it!
  • My body reacts better if I use more than the allotted 2 tsp a day. If I only eat the 2 tsp and extra lean meats, I feel very very hungry all the time. So no, a little more fat isn't going to hurt.

Also, only if you're insulin resistant or diabetic will the drink enhancements work against you. I am both, and I can only have one treat a day of it, or it affects my glucose levels. Normal people should not have this issue.
